Since I'm about 90 pages behind on here, could some of you informed observers shed some light on what's happening in Waverly right now?

Sure is strange to see them @ 3-3 right now.

If I'm not mistaken, '97 was the last time we lost 3 games during regular season.

Couldn't make it up today since we're coming next weekend.   Of course, they play @ DUB when I'm back.
I wanted to see the 2nd coming of Jerry Rice that DUB has.

Wasn't real surprised about the WB score Saturday when I heard it, but  I was when I read the box score/article about the game today.

cornell was 1-4 on red zone opportunities and managed this with only 230 yards of offense.  Their Defense definitely gave them some short fields it sounds like.

I was happy to hear these defensive stats which sounds more like what I'm used to reading about.
"Defensively,  The unit also ended with four takeaways, two blocked kicks, two sacks and seven tackles for losses."

On a separate note, I was able to play Finkbine Golf Course Friday afternoon in Iowa City. Those greens are about as nice/fast as they come for a public course.
I talked to one of the golf coaches on the putting green and he said they normally run a 11.
That is awfully slick, especially on the down hill putts.

Walston,
a late congrats to you on your monkey stomping Friday night.

a couple things I've seen & read today that really perplexed me.

1) UNI having 2 consecutive FG's blocked (they clearly outplayed the Hawks and will have a hell of a season- again)

2) WB losing with being +2 in turnover margin And their  defensive stats from today's game.

gave up 515+ total yards  QB was 28 of 37 for 314 yards and four touchdowns
AND  they ran for 210 yds at 6.6 per rush?!

I haven't seen these kind of numbers given up since the ass kicking we took against PLU and they won the nat'l championship by 21+pts that year.

on top of this, they've got  Augsburg next week who always gives them fits

on a good note, the WB offense also put up 500 yards and some points with no turnovers.    The Defense is going to have to improve real fast if they want a chance to repeat this year.  Fortunately for fans like myself, Coach Willis will (should) get that squared up.

Just came across this article.   nice work Freddy.   approx $2 Mil/year -  I hope he's smart with all his jack and doesn't blow it all trying to keep up with others in the locker room.

this cat gained 20lbs After college.  that's crazy.

Wartburg fans:  If you missed the chance to buy a personalized replica jersey, you can now purchase a personalized "throwback" jersey.  Orange.  http://www.go-knights.net/FBreplicathrowback.pdf

I just ordered one with Rausch, Wheeler and Walston's name on them.

I still can't believe I didn't keep/borrow/take my helmet when I was done.
I had some nice paint streaks on that baby.

speaking of Shrine Bowl, who won? That brings back some good memories.
The North used to Own the South in that game.

I played with guys named Vanden Bosch, Rausch, JJ Moses, Tim Dodge, just to name a few.
I think we had something like 15  D-1 Scholarship players between both squads that year.

crazy amount of talent

I was told that article on espn I posted was written by an IA grad.

I also heard today that WH will be singing at the funeral Monday.

Spoke to a friend Thursday night whom was one of my coaches in high school and played for Coach Thomas.
He was hoping that Al Kerns would help take over the head coaching duties for at least the short term because he has been there so long and was close to Coach.

I can't imagine how much emotion there will be in the stands/sidelines/field when A-P has their first game this fall.

SK- Good work & idea on the helmet decal.

I assume WH was is in Jamaica along with Todd for that wedding?

Here is a great article that was on espn today about coach Thomas.

I watched the press conference on-line yesterday on KWWL and I can't believe how well Aaron did speaking at it.
I forgot how much he sounds and acts like his father- which is a big compliment.
There's no way I would have been able to be as composed as he was for that.

Holy ****!

Coach Ed Thomas was shot 5 times this morning- sometime between 8-8:30 in the weight room.

My mom is at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo getting some work done and apparently he was brought there and just airlifted to Iowa City just a few minutes ago.

what are people thinking?

my thoughts and prayers are with coach, Todd, Aaron & their mother.

thanks for all the nice emails/posts.
I received a very  nice email from Mrs Coco this afternoon and I've never even met her or Mr. Coco.

one last part.
I was fortunate enough to talk to him  Friday afternoon before I teed off.  I knew he didn't have much time left and I told him I'd make a few birdies for him.  I had 3 birdie putts within inches of dropping and none went in for me.  As he would say, "I was burning the edges"

I woke up this morning and decided to go play because I didn't make any birdies on Friday.

I ended up with 3 birdies this morning and was 3' from a hole in one.
I was walking alone on the course, but I know for a fact that he was there with me. (except for maybe the 3 double bogeys I had  ;D )

how long until camp starts?

One of Wartburg Football , IA Football &  Coach Willis' biggest fans passed away this morning.

Grandpa Bob Devine was a Great man and an even better Grandfather/father.
I've never seen or spoken to my real dad but it didn't matter because my Grandpa was always there for me.

Most of  you don't know who he is, but if you were ever at one of my games you would have known him.
He would yell " Atta boy boom-boom" on every one of  my tackles.  He gave me that nickname when I was 2.

When I graduated from WB, I figured that he and my grandma whom were married 58 years  missed 1 of my sporting events from Junior High thru college.  that was about 95 football games alone.  Throw in Track and basketball and it's 200 events easy.
He was holding on as long as he could for my daughter to be born as my wife  is due anyday now.

words can't describe how much I'm going to miss him.

It's been a pretty ****ty 30th b-day for me  today.

thanks for all the posts about Brooklyn's accident.  She is back to running around again and having her old man stay on his toes.

Speaking of Old,  read this article on Willie Gault.  48 years old and he is still running a 10.8 second 100- that's not right!

speaking of another older football player, for any chiefs fans out there-
I live 5 houses from Kevin Porter- former chiefs safety-coach of KC's arena team.. played with Derron Cherry & James Hasty I believe?

Ya'll need to come to a game this fall.  $250 million in upgrades to Arrowhead + Giants, Cowboys & Steelers come to town this year.  I think Parcells' son-in-law knows what he's doing as a GM which is a nice change from Carl Peterson.

I'm going to post a non-football related story because I think it's quite amazing and feel extremely blessed, fortunate, & damn lucky that things are ok.  I also feel it's an important  reminder to parents with little ones to check your windows.

Last Wednesday night about 6:30, my 18 month old daughter fell 12' out my bedroom window and landed on our cement patio.  I wasn't home at the time.  My wife was putting clothes into the dresser and we had a window open to get some fresh air.

The window was open slightly  and was  literally 4-5' away from my wife.    Brooklyn saw a dog- got excited and pushed on the screen and out she went.  Wife could see her go out the corner of her eye.  When my wife looked out the window, she could see her moving slightly and crying.  She picked her up since she was kind of moving around, called 911 and the ambulance was at our house in 5 minutes.

I got the call from my wife and it went like this: "Ambulance is on it's way, Brooklyn fell out of our bedroom window" and i could hear her crying in the background.
We'd only been in this home for 10 days when this transpired and it took me a minute to realize that my bedroom was on the 2nd floor.  Luckily I was only 15 minutes from home(normal driving time) and made it home in about 10.

They took her to Children's Mercy and they immediately performend  a CT Scan on her head and took x-rays of her femur & hip.  Amazingly, they were all negative and there was no internal bleeding.
She landed just perfect on her side and only had a few small bumps on her head.  She didn't even really bruise too badly.  She does have a limp still but that's minor to what could have happened. (We are taking her in Thursday morning for a check-up)
We were even  home by 11:30 that night.  I can't count how many times the EMT's, cops, Dr, nurses, neighbors told us how lucky we were/are.   Apparently, any fall for a child that is 3x their height is considered a "major trauma fall"  Brooklyn's fall was 4x her height.

I had a TV Station at my home Friday night to do a story but declined.  Part of me wanted to share it as a reminder to all parents about what can happen but I decided against it. Wife & I didn't want to go on camera.

Kids are tough and made out of rubber I'm fairly certain.
It's amazing how many other crazy  stories people have shared with me about their children when they hear mine.

Yep, Walston definitely opened in '01 since that was my first year being retired.  I wish I could have played a few games on it.

Warthog, I started laughing out loud when you mentioned "Bobcat" in your post a few days ago.

side note- Halle Berry is on Jay Leno right now- she is not an ugly 43 year old
