Quote from: DustySJU on December 05, 2024, 10:05:25 AMDuffman missed Saturday's game...

Duffman will be absent for the foreseeable future due to wrestling commitments. :o

Duffman;  Back in the day I once ran to Abbott NW Hospital in the middle of night with 2 year old Maran, the Earth Mother met me there at 5:00am so I could race to Terminal 2 to catch Johnnie charter to McMinnville.

5 daughters each playing 12 years of ice hockey was never enough to keep me from Johnnie Football Playoffs.

Bring 'ya ass!

Quote from: DuffMan on December 05, 2024, 08:49:26 AMSus looks like a really good team.  Elite offense, average defense.  It's so tough to draw any conclusions with no common opponents, etc.  That being said, I think SJU often has the advantage against teams that are unfamiliar with them--they present some unique challenges.  Also, SJU has Aaron Syverson.
I do like that the weather is looking to rebound this weekend!
I'll take the Johnnies.  I expect a close game, but I wouldn't be opposed to a blowout.  ;)

Duffman missed Saturday's game where in my opinion the SJU defense was pretty stout.  Deep in Johnnie territory with LAX looking to score, Johnnie D stuffed run up the middle with a superb 4th down effort and turned the LAX over on downs.  Momentum SJU.

I do agree Johnnie O is great.

Quote from: WIACer on December 02, 2024, 10:09:50 AMI agree we can put the best conf to bed for this year. It is one of the top conf every year. My only gripe.  The NCAA Div 3 playoffs is sort of a joke. Look at the pairing and ask yourself, where does it make sense? It's not about rewarding your hard work during the season. UWP played the top 10 teams throughout the year. Is Lake Forest the  #2 seed? Who did they play? Let's face it. Private schools run the tournament and they are going to look out for their teams. WIAC will always given the tougher road. You will need to beat the NCAA committee, the bias, and your conference. It is what it is.

Now that I know SJU runs the tournament selection process I feel much better

Quote from: Retired Old Rat on November 30, 2024, 04:32:02 PMDoes UWL have a reputation as a dirty team? Lots of post play activity. SJU coach said the UWL players were chirping before the game started. Johnnie players said they were the dirtiest team they've played, including spitting at them. Fortunately Johnnies did not take the bait.

Let me answer the part of your question dealing with today first; the play between the whistles seemed to be actually clean with the exception of the late hit way out of bounds that wasn't called on the LX sideline and then the near fight where a DL took a couple cheap shots at an SJU olineman...with no call.

The officials did a horrible job establishing a sense of order from pregame, where LX players and coaches were chirping and $hit talking all SJU players and coaches..halftime, where they did the same thing. And after the game wanted to continue......the lack of any team leadership from LX staff or players was frankly embarrassing coming from a program that believes themselves to be in the national elite.  I believe LX currently suffers from a touch of inferiority complex in relation to their conference big brother WW.  They want to be relevant so badly, which they haven't been for close to 30 years.

The heat between SJU and LX dates to 1991 and none of the matchups since would resemble church group basketball......

Thanks for the breakdown Redtooth, observing the game I was wondering what the hell was going on with the refs Saturday.  It seemed out of control before the ball was ever kicked.

One of my favorite ball coachs Mike Leach would say "You're either coaching it, or you're allowing it".

Quote from: DuffMan on November 30, 2024, 06:04:03 PMWait, was there another middle finger salute?!?  First SNC, now UW-Laxative?

Pretty sure Nub's TE Seth gave us the double finger salute and came over the Johnnie sideline to make sure we saw it.

Would be interested to know exactly what the LAX players were chirping pregame during warmups.  As the skirmish ensued postgame some of the LAX players took a look towards the mosh and just walked off the field.  Prolly sick of their LAX teammates trash talk.  Take the loss, get on the bus and cry your way home.

DustySJU, will you be there this weekend?  It wasn't the same without you last weekend.

We will be answering the bell Saturday along with a few of the other Wagonelli's.   Looking forward to payback against Wartburg Saturday.  No better time of year.  :-*

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody

Happy Thanksgiving to our Northern posters & safe travels. There's a good chance I'll be making the trip to Cville Sat & probably end up where Hansen lands for pre-game. ? - How is parking in the tailgate area & how much of a jaunt to the stadium? Still need red cups?

Thanks in advance!

Tailgate parking is reserved however should be plenty of parking within a block or two of the tailgate lot.

There's also a funeral on campus at 10:30am.  One of the greats, Fr. Rene McGraw, OSB, passed away this Sunday and will receive rite of Christian burial Saturday.

RIP Father Rene

Wartburg has not received a single drop of love from the D3 pick'em team.  Are we outraged Warthogs?  ::)

Would the Johnnies break out the blue uniforms this Saturday? I feel like this weekend would be the only chance we see them until next year.

Agreed SagatagaSam; DSJU agrees to shake up the crowd Saturday and get the baby blues out, I would also add the red pants or go red on red.  Need to make Saturday interesting.  GoJohnnies

I'm not a fan of the music, except I don't mind "Shout" after the TD's.  Somehow, that fits.

Make the squirrel go away too.

But on another matter, who remembers how the streaming goes during the playoffs - I seem to remember they can't charge for it, per NCAA?  Anyone remember? Or is it same old, same old?  Or no video streaming at all, just audio? My memory is shot.

Streaming.  No charge.  But I also think that VOJ is not piped over the video so you need to run both streams and sync them.  No ads allowed, I suspect.

Thanks, that's sounding familiar.

Yeah, the NCAA has a rule prohibiting commercial video broadcasts during tournament games (or, stated another way, they zealously guard their exclusive commercial broadcast rights). I remember trying to sync the radio broadcast with the video years ago. For some reason I remember giving up because it was too much of a pain in the butt, and stuck with only the radio call.
I like to cue the radio broadcast about 10 seconds ahead of the video....that way I know when a big play is coming if I've ran to the fridge for an ice cold Hamm's!
Another hack is to put the game on two devices so you can watch a replay or get a replay of the replays!!!

Perhaps late to this party however last season v Linfield I used a Roku device and streamed the MIAC broadcast which delivered video stream and synched up with VOJ audio broadcast  :o

On a different note, does anyone else find the music between plays annoying?

I think they're trying to get people excited about the game.  About 90% of Johnnie fans come to the game and sit on their hands for the duration.  They want yelling, cheering, people standing up...

That being said, their execution could use some work.  Some of their music choices are...interesting.  And there seems to be no flow between the play-by-play, stadium announcer, and whoever is in charge of the music, so all three routinely interrupt each other.

Also, the rendition of Queen's "We Are the Champions" that was played at the end of the game was easily the worst rendition of it I have ever heard.  It sounded like a monastic choir singing it.  Stick to the original!

ROR, when you start yelling at clouds, we're putting you in a home.  :D

Agreed Duffman.  What the hell was the Queen rendition at end of game?  I'm not of same era, and I know the Piano Man is a favorite but for me it's a complete buzz kill at end of games.  It's awful and completely drains the stadium of any life.

The whole Piano Man drop your trouser bit at weddings is a bit puzzling too.  Again, when class of '83 was getting married Billy Joel was not a thing and I'm proud to say it still isn't.

I don't mind the psych music but my buddies and I are prolly some of the only old timers in the stands who truly respect "Get off your ass and Cheer".

So there, get loud Johnnie fans.
