These are some great leads and very useful tips. Thank you again for taking the time to provide detailed feedback! It is very much appreciated!

Don't know why, as I don't know your daughter or exact level, BUT... Take a look at Gettysburg College. Decent D3 program.  We went by the campus (not an official visit or anything). Was in awe of the campus. Has quite a cool history, as you might imagine.

Admittedly know nothing about the coaches, but my daughter does have a former teammate there, which is why it was on our radar.

My daughter was VERY indecisive and we ran the gamut with everything.  Your daughter might be at a higher level than mine, which can make a difference.  OUR experience was that travel showcase tournaments and camps at the specific school were the most useful.   I'd say a camp with multiple schools attending would be good IF you knew for sure your daughter would be a standout.   We did one of those and my daughter performed well, but still struggled to make an impression.  At single school camps she got more attention and at travel showcases she attracted attention of schools she hadn't been previously aware of.

It IS best if she has an idea already and can target specific schools. We didn't have that level of decisiveness.

Any chance this could be turned into a podcast?
Thanks @Martindale!  Appreciate the question.

Am exploring putting the SimpleCoach to Coach interviews on Spotify.  Trying to figure out the most efficient way of doing that.  Don't want it to take too much time to do, but think I have the platform identified.  Just want to test it to see if it makes sense.  Ultimately, this channel, if it keeps growing... and I keep doing it ... will have three components.  The YouTube page, a Podcast, and an weekly email distribution.... and to cover expense, probably a Patreon page and/or monetizing the YouTube channel.  Not to make a fortune, but some of the technology is not cheap.  As a hobby, I am ok covering the basics, but if I go further with this, then think I will need to invest a some stuff.

Not necessarily in a rush since I am just sorting this thing out.  But it's definately next up on the expansion of my global multimedia empire.

Short answer is yes.

SC

I think there already is/was an SCTV, so probably have to get more creative with the name of your global network...

Here to 4th, 5th or 6th the praise for this. I think it scratches an itch for coverage of D3 soccer that, while it may be a very narrow niche, clearly has a passionate following.

Especially appreciate that SC has made the effort to include the women's side in some of his work as that is where my entry point is and the journey begins in a little over a week!

Getting "Page Not Found"...  ???

All done.  IMO one of your best.   Very organic conversation. She seemed like she really wanted to talk and wasn't just answering your questions in a Q and A format.  Enjoyable to listen to.

Had a real great talk with Sandy Lagana Bly, Head Women's Soccer Coach at McDaniel College.  Most definitely one of best women coaches in the country and has really put McDaniel on the map.

Not all the way through yet, but am enjoying.  Really like this one in terms of the perspective on her own personal growth as a coach with learning that not surpassing last year's successes isn't "failure", etc...   Also the growth in team culture and how it morphed into more of a team-led than coach-led thing.  Seeing as much of what is considered to be "D3 Culture" to a perspective student athlete is often construed as, "I get to be an athlete and a full-on partying college student at the same time!", I like to see coaches that keep their players on the rails like this.

Where do you get the list of recruits from?  Just curious.

Here's D3sports.com's coverage from over the winter:

Aha!  Yes, I guess my entry point was D3Soccer.com.   Didn't even know d3sports.com existed... :D

The largest D3 conference in the country is splitting into two conferences beginning in the fall.

Agnes Scott, Berea, Covenant, Huntingdon, LaGrange, Maryville, Piedmont and Wesleyan are leaving to form the CCS (Collegiate Conference of the South).

Greensboro, Mary Baldwin, Meredith, Methodist, NC Wesleyan, Pfeiffer, Salem, Southern Virginia, William Peace and Brevard remain as USA South.

Averett had already announced they were leaving to join ODAC.

Doesn't sound like much is really logistically changing as the USA South played in a two division East/West format anyway.  What I imagine will change is that the group should go from one automatic tournament bid, to each conference having its own automatic bid.
Will the CCS get an auto bid immediately or will they have to wait a couple of years?

2 year wait. Pool B in 22-23 and 23-24, Pool A starting fall 2024.

Ahhh, thanks.   Wasn't aware of the waiting period.

Had a wonderful conversation with Colleen Pivirotto, head women's coach at University of Scranton.  I can see why they are one of the programs to reckon with.

Colleen Pivirotto of the University of Scranton

Enjoyed this a lot.  Thanks for trying out the new questions!  Also cool to get a shout out on a "soon to be viral" Youtube channel! (BTW, Yes, I am a male)   ;D

I guess her answer was to be expected as far as not wanting to name any particular player they missed out on (Makes sense in retrospect), but still enjoyed listening to the answer. Maybe could get them to mention by name a particular player who they maybe weren't initially interested in, took a chance on and were SO thankful they did... Just thinking out loud.

Anyway, keep up the great work!

Andrew Bednarsky was my assistant coach when I was the head coach at Heidelberg for a short time.  I can tell you that he is a class act all the way around and will make a fantastic head coach at whichever university is lucky enough to hire him.  Bednarsky for President!!!!

One of our troll's previous posts. I wonder how Heidelberg would feel about a coach with his opinions these days? Certainly all those female students on campus wouldn't be happy knowing a staff member was walking around thinking they were wasting time better spent barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen!

And less than 2 minutes of internet digging gives me our troll's most likely name, given there was a Heidelberg coach for a year who went sub .500 and who played at St. Lawrence during their late 90s era glory years. Though to be fair, only one coach in Heidelberg's history has been over .500 overall.

Who knows, maybe the account was hijacked?

Well, perhaps the account was hacked.  That same one year Heidelberg coach, former St. Lawrence player is also a coach in California, apparently where these posts originated from. I would imagine UC Riverside would be more interested than Heidelberg in these opinions, though.

The coach in question is no longer on the staff at Cal-Riverside.

He is listed on their 2016 coaching roster but not the 2017 or any since.  Odd, because there is an announcement in the 2017 season of him promoted to associate head coach.  There is very little trace of him that I can find after 2017 - Google, Twitter, etc.   There is a mention of a person by that name complaining about mask mandate at a Sandpoint ID library board of trustees meeting in September 2021 which would be on point with other opinions expressed here.

He has apparently chosen to take the advice of the B-52s by living in his own private Idaho.

Better than the Love Shack, I guess..

@simplecoach that was our experience too --  interest from some top programs, but couldn't get much lower ranked ones to even reply. My theory is that's one reason they were lower ranked -- they did a poor job with recruiting!

Really clarified for me why some programs that should be better are not.  Some coaches just seem to see recruiting as a necessary evil or something.

SC, some questions/discussions I would love to see with some coaches (Both men's and women's).   Of course, they have to do with recruiting. Because after going through the whole process for close to two years, I'd really love to know what goes on on their end.  You got some good insight from one of your women's coach interviews (Hoover, I think?) regarding the emailing being critical.   Some things that I have been curious about or would love to hear about:

1) Recruiting websites:  Do you use them and what are their value in the process?   How much attention do you pay to them and what percentage of your contact comes through them?

2)  Would love to hear stories about "The one that got away" or just about players that maybe they thought they had and lost, or a player that wasn't on their radar that came into their view late that ended up being a great contributor.

3)  Tournaments:  How many do you go to and with time constraints, if you only can watch a player for 15-30 minutes, what are you looking for and do you feel you can accurately judge them base on such a small sample size?  Or are you more or less there for "facetime" and introductions?

4)  High School: Do you even really care if they play it, or are there any scenarios that you have/would go watch a high school  game?

5)  What percentage of players on your squad did you find and recruit to come to your school (And how do you typically find them?), as opposed to players that reached out and were interested in your program and sold YOU that they were a good fit?

6)  To what degree are ID camps a "money grab" as opposed to a talent search?  I know a lot of schools use camps on their campus as their primary recruiting tool.  What about ID camps where multiple schools and coaches attend? Are these worthwhile?

Of course these could use some refining, but you are an expert interviewer now, right?  ;)
