Quote from: CWM_42 on January 26, 2025, 09:38:53 AMOne of the outliers would be Brad Moore (Colby '75) who had 1,392 career rebounds, or an average of 15.3 per game.
Yes.  There are a scattering of crazy rebound stats from the 1950's and even up through the 1990's.  Hamilton has their top 5 all well over 1,000 from that period...so lets go with from 2000 onward....and yes there are a very few with better career stats, very few, but they were not 6' 6"...so "inch for inch" the best rebounder.

As a side note maybe someone who knows more can go over how they used to keep rebounding stats?  Because there are a good number (such as Brad Moore) with stats that could not be achieved in todays game?

A shout out to Midd forward David Brennan.   He has quietly (maybe not so quietly?) hit the career milestone of 900 rebounds with the 10 rebounds in the game against Williams yesterday.  Inch-for-Inch the best rebounder in the NESCAC for 3-1/2 years and counting.  It is not just that he rebounds...it is that so many of them are contested rebounds that he comes up with.   His numbers are incredible....If he stopped today he would be the all time leader in half the NESCAC schools...and by the end of the season outside of a very few outliers he would be #1 in almost all of them.

A really good win for Midd!  A tight back and forth game which I think had about 10 lead changes.  Some great contributions from some of last years minor role players is a really good sign.  And of course seeing Sam Stevens strong showing bodes well for the season for Midd.

Regarding Williams and post season awards...and we hear a lot from the Williams supporters during the season about great team play, a deep bench, etc....in the end this makes for a great team but statistically lower numbers on the individuals.  For the most part the players being extolled are not statistically high on the list.   In looking over the stats on the NESCAC home page it looks like no Williams player cracks the top 10 in almost any statistic....in fact they hardly crack the top 20.  The only exception is Nate Karen....and It looks like he was the one player acknowledged by the post season awards....so it seems to me that the coaches more or less followed the stats....I am sure there are a few exceptions (CPS great free throw stats) but overall the players that got it seem to line up with the numbers.   I would say that the Williams fans should be thrilled with being in the NCAA and every single team that did not make it would gladly trade post season awards for 1 more game!   Go NESCAC.

Side note: Midd might not be a great example as no one in region 1 seems to have played more RRR games.

Trinity had a very weak non-conf schedule and jsut now for the 1st time it just hurt them.  By way of example look at the number of regionally ranked teams they played....8.  Midd for example played 12.....to get the higher seedings Trinity needed to tougher non-conf schedule and the weakness this year of the NESCAC did not help.  Having said that Go Bantams!

Just saying that after Conn College beat F&M in PK's 2 rounds ago the entire Conn College team ran to the VERY FAR DIAGONAL END OF THE FIELD to taunt the F&M parents and students.   Shouting and Gesturing.  Running up to the fence line to really get in peoples faces.............. It lasted about 45 seconds until the coach came jogging over to put an end to it....It happens.  I don't think the coach was happy.   None of this reflected well on what is a good program.
you said it all....they ran to the side of the field where the pks were taken (where Conn fans had moved as well because pks were there).... No obscene gestures... and if the coach was unhappy then that is the opposite of the situation that's in discussion. Before someone points it out - yes the assistant was shown a red for disagreeing with a call but it was dealt with immediately and nowhere near the the norm for that staff.

That is a huge leap.  The fans in that area were 99% F&M and the CT players were in their faces taunting them.   The CT goalie, who played awesome, sprinted over to taunt the F&M fans the moment CT won the PK's.   My point is that this happens, the desire to win is huge, but this was NOTHING like the Amherst team and this did not effect my respect for the CT team and it is not what I remember from that game....  I am thrilled that Wash Coll won today.

Yes...a couple of balls going a different way and it would be 2 less NESCAC teams.....but the winners advance.

4 sensitive NESCAC replies to my post...I don't post often so I don't know if that means it is a good post that touched a nerve or an ignorant one?   I did not mean to put down any team or program.  Everyone that is moving on deserved it and I wish them all well.  No exceptions.  I want no ones season to end.  I think the last game of your last year of college is possibly the saddest moment in most athletes lives.

As I said in my post Conn played good soccer, not dominant.  They won. They move on.   I am a NESCAC grad and I had kids that played in both the NESCAC and the CC with some success so I don't think I am biased.  Clearly the NESCAC is the strongest soccer in the country the past 10 years...as to why I think that is.....I leave for other smarter folks to figure out...

Hmm. Midd won by 1 over what was probably an emotionally exhausted JHU team.   Conn College tied both their games in regulation and if this was a standard weekend they would have gone home 0-0-2.  F&M controlled more than their fair share of the game but could not convert.  Conn beats F&M on the 7th or 8th round of PK's.   Good soccer by Conn but not dominant.

It is a great day to be a D3 soccer fan for the mid-Atlantic region.  We get to see if the tension between the NEACAC and the Centennial Conference is deserved as one of the best from each league play each other.  I think this Dips team is up to the task against the Camels.   I think this Dips team is tough enough to get the job done.

It is great to have these posts to read again. I miss this board during the off season.  NEACAC1's knowledge.  Old Guys poetic posts.  Lumbercat at and Springstreets sometimes edgy commentary, and all the other regulars.    Of all the D3 boards across all the sports I follow this is far and away the best.  From a longtime lurker thank you.

It's a huge advantage in game.  About 30% of the players on the field are 5th year.   23 and 24 year olds playing 18 and 19 year olds

Congratulations to AMC!  As a a parent of a NESCAC team that has played AMC several times I am impressed but I am not surprised.   The Falcons always bring their A game.   Congratulations again
