Rivalry week is upon us. Planning on making the trip to Abilene. Should be another fantastic installment in the ongoing rivalry between the top two teams.

As I see it, the key battles are this:

UMHB run D vs the stable of runners for the Cowboys.

Isaac Phe vs a talented HSU defense

Of course I'm taking my Cru by a TD to win. Good luck and good health to all.

If the HSU team that played two weeks ago and should have lost to TLU shows up, Cru by 20.

And IF my Aunt had a pair she'd be my Uncle!! We looked to be back on track this past weekend, still missing some guys on defense, but I like our chances with Glynn back. Could be wet in Abilene this weekend and I like that even better for us! Time will tell but give me the Cowboys by 10!

Hawkins is a D2 transfer from Henderson State, which is a very good program. HSU should be doing just fine with him. Undoubtedly, not having Glynn - a senior - hurts from both a leadership perspective and an offensive perspective, but this team should be beating McMurry by 10 minimum regardless of who is lining up behind center. Remember - HSU beat La Crosse with Glynn only throwing for 198 and 0 Tds. If they don't figure things out, UMHB - yes, 2-3 UMHB (probably 4-3 UMHB come game week) - is going to steamroll them.

Hawkins left because they didn't believe he could be a Qb at the next level. He didn't want a position change so he came to Hsu where he would be given the opportunity to still play QB. Glynn won the job over him entering last season. When our offensive coordinator chooses his guy he sticks with them like no other. I've witnessed us throwing 3-4 interceptions with a QB and not sitting him multiple occasions over the years. This years offense was formed around him and with him not there we have changed our complete  identity on offense. We obviously don't trust him to make throws down the field. Lots of short stuff to the flats. You can also take into account this is a large rivalry game and Jordan Neil is an Hsu grad so that adds some spice to it as well. Continue to think y'all are improving and we will get steamrolled, but as I stated before if 12 is back we will be fine. D3 isn't covered enough to know all the back stories to make irrational takes such as yours. If you don't truly have skin in the game with a team you don't know what could be going on with a game or program.

It wasn't our prettiest performance but at the end of the day we came out with a win against a program who has really turned things around recently. What a lot of outsiders probably haven't noted is we have been not only without Gaylon but 2 other key starters and captains. One at Linebacker (Mitchell) and one at defensive end(Hammonds). Our all American LB didn't make the trip to Endicott and we haven't had the best safety in the conference all season in D. Nephew. When you start to put these things into play it makes sense of the recent struggles. Last Saturday Hsu fielded a new QB and whole new linebacker core. As long as we get these guys back before October 28th I still like our chances at making a run. However we HAVE to get #12 back healthy, I don't think our backup can do the job. I'm concerned for QB next season already.

I agree with HSUCowboy2015 on the statement that UMHB is not 30 points better than us. I'm new to the forum but have always watched, and kept up with it from a distance for years now. This game took a big lick to our pride but is 100% on us. UMHB has always been one of the best teams I've ever witnessed at riding momentum and capitalizing on others errors. They don't waste opportunities when they are given a gift from the opposing team, and that's what great teams do. With that being said if we eliminate the int, two fb TD's, and the kick return to the 3 it's a much different game. But as the old saying goes if my aunt had a pair she'd be my uncle. At the end of the day those aren't normal errors for the cowboys. They beat a lot of folks because of their discipline. Which by the way, the question on TDE actually stands for Toughness, Discipline, and Effort. We had multiple shots to score and got up quicker on them than Whitewater could. I'm confident we have one of the best defenses in the nation if we get a better pass rush. I still believe in this team and think they can play with the best of D3. I'm hopeful we get another chance in the playoffs, but I won't feel sorry for us if they don't let us this year. This one is on us!
