Redlands completely sold out to the stop the run.  There was 8 in the box on nearly every down.  They weren't even attempting to cover the slot WRs.  Once Kulenkamp settled down, he was able to hit the open WRs and the offense got moving.   Redlands has a decent RB and their third string QB can run, so they can control the ball at times.  However, neither backup QB can throw (starter is out) and they are very one dimensional.  Difficult to beat a decent team if you can't throw.

I thought their DBs were worse.  Of course, CLU also had 8 in the box most of the game.  I suspect Redlands will do the same.

Should be a good game.  Stags O was at it's absolute worst against Chapman (pick 6 and two fumbles inside their own 20).  Offensive line is finally healthy which has helped the running game get back on track.  Cal Lu has by far the worst D in the SCIAC.  I think we could have put up 70 points that game if the QB play was better in the first half.

Agree that the NWC makes the most sense.

It is possible that the SCIAC will fold, but CMS will not drop football.  Both George Roberts and Henry Kravis are big supporters of sports, including football.   The recent campaign just raised over $1 billion.  The new expansion of the campus will include significant improvements for sports, including a new football field.

CMS offense really struggled.  Edwards is struggling to run behind a revamped line.  The offense gave up a pick 6 and two fumbles inside our own 30 in the first half which resulted in 17 of Chapman's points.  Very difficult to win under those circumstances.  Kulenkamp needs to settle down and use his legs more.

I think it is difficult to judge the strength of George Fox this early in the season.   They were 8-2 last year.  They still have a very good defense.  Beat Pacific 14-9 the week before.

CMS pulled Justin Edwards early out of precaution, which limited the run game.  They also rested returning All-Region Defensive End Joey Asta.  The defense is just as a good as last year.  Need to continue to tweak the offense.  Kulenkamp is very athletic and fast.  I suspect we will see more QB designed runs in the future.

Yes.   Stags play University of Chicago their first game.  Excited to go to Chicago Labor Day Weekend.

Looking forward to a road trip to University of Chicago Labor Day weekend.  Great way to start the season.  Go Stags!

Apparently the SCIAC will be composed of two pods next year.  CAL Lu CMS and Chapman and Redlands La Verne and PP.  Teams will play each team in their pod twice.  The team from each POD with the best SCIAC record will play for the SCIAC championship the last game of the season.

Old Dog,

I have both played and coached, and I do think it went beyond one player.  CMS came in with an excellent game plan.  Watch the tape, there were multiple coverages and blitz packages.  Redlands had 90 yds of offense.  These were the same players as Game 1 when it was a one score game and CMS had a vanilla game plan.

Offensively CMS came out passing.  As I noted prior to the game, Redlands will try to sell out and stop the run, which would open up the passing game.  The 15 yard hitches were wide open the entire game.

Marvin Sanders is an amazing DC.  Redlands QB never knew where the rush was coming from or the type of coverage.  Sanders D1 experience is showing.  Joey Asta should win SCIAC defensive player of the year.
