Quote from: DriftlessDuhawk on December 02, 2024, 12:57:48 PMWartburg pulls off the victory at home over what I thought was a much more talented UWP team. At least I thought this in the games I watched both teams play in the regular season. This, however, did not look to be the case on Saturday. Wartburg dominated the LOS on both sides of the ball and forced turnovers to help them control the game from start to finish. Clearly, I have not given the Knights the respect that they deserve...

Duhawk, you aren't the only one underestimating Wartburg.  Only one of the D3 "experts" picked Wartburg and on the message boards I don't believe I saw a single post picking the Knights.

Unlike the teams of the past two seasons, this team has had to deal with significantly more injuries.  For the most part the team is getting healthier and starting to play well.  Wartburg controlled both lines of scrimmage vs Plattville and played excellent defensively.  The only long pass play by the Wartburg offense was called back due to penalty (no comment).  The running game looked good with 229 yards and a complementary passing game helped control the clock.

I'm expecting the game with Bethel to be very similar to the game last year in Minnesota; low scoring defensive game.  My key to the game is whether Wartburg is successful running the ball vs a very good defense.  If they can run for 100+ yards (which I believe they will), I think the Knights will win!

Yes, huge props to Coe and congrats on a great season.  Played a great game and had an opportunity to win at the end.  The Bethel defensive line was the difference in the game with 10 sacks and controlling the line of scrimmage.

It was good to see Geebli from Bethel playing well.  I was there last year for the Wartburg game when he had a terrible leg break.  Great to see him recovered and playing well.

Quote from: Schipper Strong on September 21, 2024, 05:52:37 PMCongratulations to Wartburg. You took advantage of our mistakes and outlasted us. Everything that could go wrong for Central did in the first quarter. Wartburg of the last two years would have been ahead 21-0 at halftime. So to the other teams, they are beatable. We did not do that, so obviously we are too. Exceptional defense by the Dutch today and offensive lapses by the Dutch was the difference. I really wish the coaches would have given Brady Ketchum a series with the wind, but I don't get to coach from the stands.

On the plus side it was amazing to see probably 50 players, a few coaches and a couple of cheerleaders and maybe a trainer back to celebrate the 1974 national championship team. They even looked good for 68-72 year olds! They showed some pictures from the game, the video where Central stopped the most prolific runner in D3 on 4th and goal from the 1 with time running out and Central up 10-6, the irony of that score! At the end we ran out the clock and gave up a safety intentionally to preserve the win 10-8. Central was the only team to hold Ithaca without a TD. I may be old, but I have a good memory! Central is still the only conference team in the conference with a national championship in football. We also finished second twice. Loved those days.

So hoping Central wins out and Coe beats Wartburg. We should have lost by more and our defense was amazing. I still have hope.

Very good defensive game on Saturday.  Both teams appear to have strong defenses and a work in process on the offensive side.  It was a beautiful day and wish I was able to attend the game.

Wartburg defense appeared much better on Saturday vs the Jonnies the previous week.

Best of luck to the Dutch for the remainder of the season!

Quote from: DriftlessDuhawk on July 20, 2024, 12:47:07 PMI know some other boards do a weekly pick'em each week for their conference's games. Would anyone on this board be interested in something like this? I think it would be fun and would be willing to keep track of the records.

Count me in.  Getting excited for the season!

Quote from: faunch on February 20, 2024, 03:34:27 PMOk...let's get right into it....how many starters does Wartburg return for the 2024 and campaign and specifically the Sept. 14 game in Collegeville.

Looking forward to visiting Collegeville again! I provided a short update on the ARC board regarding Wartburg returning players if interested.  Can you provide a similar summary for St Johns?  Should be a great non-conference game!

Quote from: DriftlessDuhawk on February 20, 2024, 02:02:42 PMWelcome back everyone!

The offseason is long but we already have a few 2024 schedules

Wartburg: https://go-knights.net/sports/football/schedule
NWU: https://nwusports.com/sports/football/schedule/2024
Coe: https://kohawkathletics.com/sports/football/schedule
ud: https://udspartans.com/sports/football/schedule

With the possibility of a 40-team playoff it sure seems like the ARC teams are trying to ramp up their noncon games to go after one of those at large bids. Wartburg going to Collegeville, Coe with a WIAC team on the schedule, and ud with a WIAC team and a playoff team from the year before! Obviously, more to come but these bigger profile games are fun and good for the league in my opinion. Can't wait to see what the rest of the league has instore.

How many starters / contributors does Wartburg return for the 2024 season?

The expectations at Wartburg will continue to be very high next season.  Even with the loss of some exceptional guys on defense due to graduation, most feel their D should be nearly as good or potentially better next season.  The D line should be extremely good.  The Walker kid will be an absolute beast on the DLine.  His sack vs NC and three time AA was impressive for a freshman.

On offense, Wartburg return 7 guys with starting experience on the O line, including the RT which was all conf but missed the last 9 games of the season due to injury.  Oline will be great; RB returns 4 of top 5 but Turbo will be tough to replace.  WR returns most of the production from last season.  Graduation of McLaughlin will be tough to replace, but QB2 has had good experience including playoff game at St Johns in 22.

Looking forward to a great semifinal next week! Where's the best place to get lunch and a beer before the game in Waverly next Saturday?
The Dirty Dog, Sasquach Jack's and The Other Place are all good and a short walk from campus.  Frederick's or Z's Pizza is also good if you go about 10 blocks down the main drag.
I'd probably steer clear of Joe's Knighthawk if you're a visiting fan...that's where the "crazyiest" Wartburg fans will probably be.
From the street view on Google Maps it appears that Joe's Nighthawk is a bar/grill AND a self-service carwash :o. Is the car wash safe for NCC fans?  ;)

Joes is a great place!  Recommend it prior to the game in addition to Dirty Dog and the Other Place.  After the gam,Joe  is hosting Wartburg players, families and coaches.

NCC as an undefeated returning national champion should not be traveling.  The rules need to be fixed. Looking forward to a great game!  Safe travels and enjoy your time in Waverly!

Congratulations to Wartburg and Coe and best of luck to both of you in the playoffs. While I wish Central could still be playing too, I am really glad that Coe made the playoffs. If they have Wartburg rated anywhere close to right at #3 Coe deserves to be there. I read the belief that SJU should have been there, but I think the ARC teams have played MIAC teams very well a number of times in the playoffs. I would love to have seen Central and SJU go at it next Saturday in a non-playoff teams match up.

Schipper, agree 100%.  Would love to see a ARC vs MIAC non-playoff matchup after the regular season.  A traveling trophy with bragging rights between conferences!

Great to see the ARC with a second team in the playoffs.  Wartburg and Central have represented the conference well the past few seasons.  It's great to see the conference getting some respect!  Having seen Coe a couple times in the last 12 months and Aurora last year; it would not surprise me at all if Coe won.  Beebe has a dynamic offense and it took the Knights a quarter to figure out; but I predict Coe will be the more physical team and will prevail!

With a three way tie, I believe the "Rose Bowl" rule would decide the AQ.  Last team to qualify that played in the playoffs is Coe, so the would get the AQ.

I was able to catch the end of the Loras/NWU game on my phone while I was in Madison to watch was supposedly a football game. Was quite the finish in double OT! Unfortunately I feel like the story is the same for the Duhawks as they cannot get the offense and the defense to play well on the same day. It was the offense's turn to perform well in Lincoln and that they did. This being said I truly think that Mani Brown is the best WR in the league. From what I have been able to watch around the league I'm not sure there is anyone who is more unguardable/creates as much as he does.  Very exciting that most of the Duhawk offense will return next year and should continue to improve. I just hope that the defense is able to improve with them.

With Wartburg coming to the Rock Bowl next week I am not very optimistic for a Loras win. That being said I saw that UD had success against the Knights in the first half last weekend. Question for the Wartburg people here. IF Wartburg were to lose a conference game how does it happen? Is there achilles heel/weaker part of the Knights team this year? Would love to hear what your perspective is.

Wartburg fan here.  Not sure I can identify an achilles heel other than what appears their slow starts in games.  The team has a significant number of starters back from their national semifinal team, but the execution hasn't been as consistent as what it was at the end of last year.  In the past 4 games, Simpson was 0-0 at then end of Q1, then Wartburg proceeded to score 56 in the next two quarters.  Coe they were behind 0-14 in Q1, Luther 7-0 through Q1, and Dubuque were down 0-10 then proceeded to score the next 31 points.  They haven't played a complete game yet.

I'm looking forward to my first trip to the Rock Bowl this weekend!  It appears the Duhawks have a very potent offense and I look forward to a great game!

Question for you, is there handicap parking near the visit side bleachers?  It appears the visitor stands are on a rock ledge.  Appreciate any feedback.

Superbowl is over...so it's time for the "Way to Early" predictions for next year.

Does the ARC championship get determined when Central comes to Wartburg this year?

Is this the year Coe, Loras, or Dubuque make a title run?

Do we get 2 bids this year and if it's not Wartburg and Central, who is it?

Can new coaching turn things around in Indianola, and Storm Lake?...how many wins do they get in year 1?

Who are the sleeper picks this year?

Does NWU finally break into the top half of the conference or is it still the IIAC+?

Any interesting Non-Con games this fall?

Just curious what the consensus is.

Delayed response to your post, but I'm ready for spring football!

Yes, the Arc championship will be decided in Waverly between the Knights and Dutch.
Coe and Dubuque should be tough and in the title hunt.

With limited at large teams, the Arc is probably a one bid league.

I haven't checked all the Arc schedules yet, but Wartburg at Bethel should be an excellent game with
Both teams finishing top 5 last year.

Only a play or two from their first Stag Bowl, Wartburg should have another excellent team this fall.
Sounds like all 5 of their all Americans and 8 of all region players are returning.  A few key positions to fill, but Knights should be pretty good!

Updates on other teams?

Merry Christmas and happy new year to all our ARC friends!

My first post on the message boards, but will be my first of many.

This was an incredible season for my Knights!  Hopefully 2023 will equally or even more successful!
Sounds like Wartburg will be loaded next season.
