Quote from: PauldingLightUP on March 13, 2025, 10:04:44 PMI see the Bonduel Bears beat Southern Door tonight. What did Drew Daoust end his career at? 3k points and how many more?

Drew finished the game with 28 points which gives him a career total of 3,096 points - second in Wisconsin scoring history.

Very sad news.  My most heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family, his teammates and the Trine University community.

"The Trine University community is mourning the tragic loss of Fred Garland, a Trine University student and a member of the national championship men's basketball team. Fred passed away Dec. 11, 2024, in a car accident."

Quote from: PauldingLightUP on December 09, 2024, 09:27:24 AMHeard from a source saying Miron left the game with an ankle injury with 9:14 to go on Saturday. Not believed to be too serious, but they put him in a boot postgame.

Ripon JV at Stevens Point JV on Tuesday.

Tip off scheduled at 6:30.

Quote from: Greek Tragedy on December 07, 2024, 11:36:14 PMInteresting tidbit from the post-game radio show. They said there's a JV game next week. I didn't know Point had a JV team.

Yes.  On Tuesday.

Quote from: tomt4525 on November 23, 2024, 03:12:16 PM6'1" Southern Door G, Drew Daoust, has committed to Stevens Point.  This is a huge get for the Pointers, great start to the 2025 class.

Daoust averaged almost 33 points a game as a junior, can really shoot it.  In all likelihood, Daoust will finish his high school career as the 2nd leading scorer in Wisconsin High School Basketball history.

I have followed this young man's high school career over the past few years.  Agreed, this is a really nice get for Coach Dern and the Pointers.

Quote from: Greek Tragedy on November 11, 2024, 03:27:28 PMNot sure what they are drinking in Madison, but the game time for Point's game at Edgewood this weekend has changed for a 3rd time, now at 5 pm, after originally being set at 3 pm and then changed to 1 pm. 5 pm works for me!

I thought I heard something about volleyball. Edgewood is the #1 seed for the NACC tournament.

The Edgewood Volleyball team hosts in round 2 of their conference tournament tonight. Should they win as expected they will also host on Saturday. We'll know the basketball game time for Saturday as soon as their match finishes. Parking could be interesting with the Badgers playing Oregon in football Saturday night. Volleyball, Basketball and I know the Edgewood grounds park a lot of cars for a Badger football game.

Quote from: Greek Tragedy on November 11, 2024, 07:13:35 AMThat's fine. There are definitely some cupcakes in there. But let's not disregard Trine, RMC and CNU on their "preseason" schedule.

Those are the last three National Champions . . . that's fairly ambitious scheduling.

Something odd...you look at West Florida and Madison College's rosters when Keith Hoffman was there, and they list him at 6'8."  Point lists him at 6'5," big difference there.

He's shrinking as he ages. Happens to most of us.

Who won the NM scrimmage?

Don't know if anyone actually "wins" a scrimmage. Both 20 minute periods were close as the coaches were likely less concerned about the score as the play on the floor.  Point ended with a slight score advantage in both 20 minute periods but again, I don't know that would have been a goal of the scrimmage. A third period was played with players "further down the bench" - NM "won" that period by a bit as I recall. It was highly competitive. Both teams have some very nice players. Certainly reason for optimism - first game this Sunday when the season starts "for real"! Looking forward to seeing some nice crowds in the Quandt this season.

Whitewater went D3 earlier than UWSP and UWEC and won a couple D3 national championships. Eau Claire and Point were loaded in those years and still playing in the NAIA.  Those were Anderson and Bennett teams.  Safe to say if the Anderson and Bennett teams were playing in D3 there'd be a whole lot of national championship banners in those two field houses.  Even the great UWSP Coach Parker Jon Julius/Jack Lothian team was still playing in the NAIA in the early 90's. One has to believe they would have won the D3 championship also.

Any Pointer fans attend the preseason social?

Unfortunately, I had company and couldn't make it.  This year was a pot luck vs. the past pig roasts. The gentleman who always provided the pig roasts unfortunately passed away some time ago.  I'm told it was an excellent event with a really nice crowd.

Stevens Point has a cool thing going this season.

https://athletics.uwsp.edu/news/2023/9/6/premium-pointer-experience.aspx

There have been discussions about other changes at Quandt . . . just discussions at this point.  Nothing further this year as I understand it . . . unless there's changes to bench locations, student sections, etc. From what I understand, those things could happen. Not sure when.

Sounds like changes are in the works for the Quandt Fieldhouse.  As in a somewhat remodeled space.  Short term, appears this season fans can expect an opportunity for a special ticket area that includes premium food and drink . . . stay tuned.  Sounds like a great idea as our local universities compete for their fan's attention and support!!

Former Pointer, Darrius Bolden, who transferred to a juco last year, is back with UWSP this season.

I can't imagine it staying this way, but if everyone with eligibility is back and there are no defections from the recruiting class...roster is at 26 at the moment.

I imagine there's a few kids who "committed" via social media that may not have even been recruited, but played HS ball. So, they are basically trying out come practice time. Obviously we can't anticipate a huge roster, so the competition will weed out a few players, in theory, the less talented athletes.

Certainly possible, but certainly not likely for the vast majority.  Sam Coulthard falls in this category, and could be the only one.  With that said, I can't be positive on the transfers, Parker Prahl, Darrius Bolden and Tyson Skalecki.  Prahl was highly recruited as a senior and I would be surprised he would leave Lawrence for a non-guaranteed roster spot.  Skalecki had quite a few options as a senior as well but hardly played at Carroll, I'm much less positive on him having a roster spot or not.  Bolden very well could fit in the tryout category, especially after leaving Point once already.

AJ Uttech - top 50 senior and visited many schools over the course of the year, many options
Austin Schaumburg - had multiple roster spot offers including CCIW North Central
Logan Baumgartner - top 50 senior with majority of the WIAC chasing him
Mason Prey - top 50 senior with D2 looks on top of the entire WIAC after him
Jackson Watson - had many options at the D3 level as a high school senior, walked on at Bowling Green - Coach Dernbach recruited him to La Crosse so seems like he would welcome him to his roster
Cal Krohn - I don't know why Cal would leave a volleyball scholarship for a tryout chance, my guess is he has a roster spot
Seth Miron - top 50 senior originally committed to Oshkosh, he had a roster spot wherever he chose at the D3 level
Malik Abdul-Wahid - former top 25 senior a couple years ago with D2 offers, he wasn't going anywhere that wasn't offering a roster spot
Josiah Butler - top 50 senior 2 years ago with over 10 D2 offers, he has a roster spot

Just to get a number...lets say Coulthard, Bolden and Skalecki aren't guaranteed roster spots.  That puts the recruiting class at 10.  It would also put the roster size at 23, with 3 possible additions.  That is still much higher than 99 percent of rosters at the D3 level that doesn't carry a JV team.  I think it's more likely the defections come from returning players, not incoming recruits(minus the 3 players I highlighted in this post).  It's almost a given that when a new coaching staff comes in, some of the holdovers end up not on the squad the following year.

Excellent summation.  Can't disagree with anything you wrote.

Can he please play football also so Point finally has an all wiac type player at the QB position? What a huge get for the Pointers I truly believe they have a shot at top 3 in the conference

Add Logan Baumgartner to that quarterback room!!  Another terrific QB.  Saw him play last Fall.  An arm like his father's!!!
