Been watching North Central's game and they shared stats of the Susquehanna running back and how he is third in yardage in the nation...but  now against North Central he will be lucky to get 20 yards. It is frustrating to have to compare CCIW and WIAC stats with teams from other conferences. My son has had great stats for 4 years in the CCIW but he had to fight for all the yards -
his body carries the mileage and our hospital bills have too! I would love to see the stats that NCC and Wheaton teams would get playing in other conferences.

I and just venting because this game is a total beat down! Embarrassing!

Quote from: Cardinal773 on December 05, 2024, 11:25:18 AMNo real point to make, really, USee.  Just found it interesting.

By the way, the Total Plays stat is just pass attempts and rushing attempts. No handoffs or quick kick punts and stuff.

As far as the "Lehnen for AA" campaign is concerned, the NC coaches are doing what they can to protect him and if that means he's not out there putting up crazy numbers all the time, then I guess he doesn't get the crazy totals that will look sexy on an AA resume.

There are two other things going on that I'm quite sure are working against him.  One is definitely NCC fatigue. I recall Kieth, in the post championship game podcast in some pizza bar talking about how refreshing it was to have a new team on top.  Apparently there are people out there that aren't enjoying all this as much as I am.  The other thing is the loss.  The kid has the most accurate, dominating season a QB has ever had and he and his team lose the final by one point.  Immediately afterwards, we had guys like Pat Coleman immediately proclaiming (in that Salem pizza bar) that their early pick for preseason AA QB was Boyes, not Lehnen.  Is not winning the previous year's championship game disqualifying, Pat?

Along with Trinity as an appetizer, Lehnen and company beat (and took a royal pounding) from two championship caliber teams before meeting and losing to Cortland by 1.  So yeah, perhaps he would have kept the luster on his Gagliardi trophy if he would have stepped in at corner.

I'm going on way too much about all this.  In an ideal world I'd like the following to happen:

Syverson and Boyes get AA, Luke outperforms and defeats them both in the playoffs and takes home a title against the next big thing to come out of Alliance.

Being a Wheaton fan, I wish the NCC line would get alot of credit for much of their players stats. Having a son who is a running back, the line matters. And I was watching some games where Luke had all day in the pocket because of the wealth of riches on the NCC line, and if he wanted, he had some massive holes to run 20 yards without getting touched. Maybe a quarterback from a team like NPU should get more credit because he has to make split second decisions. Just my two cents.

Quote from: Crusader92 on November 23, 2024, 06:05:56 PMVery glad to see Wheaton escape with a 35-32 win. Will never complain about a win over a quality opponent and very happy for the Seniors. Props to Stout for continuing to play hard after getting down early. I will say, the periodically sloppy and undisciplined play that has been a problem for Wheaton at many points this year, but that didn't matter much against most opponents, almost cost them a game they should have been able to put away much sooner. Would have been great to see this team get a playoff bid, but I think this game (ending in a win), was about as good as one could hope for given this teams strengths and weaknesses.

It was an escape is right! Escape from Wisconsin and the refs - it was Wheaton's bane of the year. But they did it and my son is happy because it was fun to end his career on a win with a very nice trophy. My hope is that the CCIW will get a bit more props...still sad Wheaton was snubbed in the tourney. Oh well, the wonder of D3 Football!

Quote from: UWO Titan 78 on November 17, 2024, 12:21:53 PMThe Wheaton team I saw yesterday was not the same team I saw play Oshkosh in week 1. That is the problem with a model that just uses data to pick the field. Wheaton was incorporating a band new offensive line and quarterback early in the season. They were hitting on all cylinders yesterday. This team would've been a tough out in the NCAA playoffs.

As a Wheaton fan, thank you for saying that! With this current system of NPI I wouldn't want to schedule Oshkosh anymore because the cost of losing now is too high. Maybe they should schedule a Northwestern or a team from Michigan conference so they would keep the 9-1🤷🏽♂️

Quote from: CarollFan on November 16, 2024, 08:26:16 PMAll games are over. D3 Datacast just tweeted these are their final numbers.

https://d3datacast.com/npi/football/

They have Wheaton as first team out.
According to this Wheaton would play UWRF in Isthmus

How accurate is this? If NPU would have beat Elmhurst and Carthage would that have boosted Wheaton's NPI numbers? It also seems like teams get in from nothing but math and not actually being the best teams. Kinda frustrating.

Without doing the math I think the 2 late conference games that would have helped if they went the other way are NPU @ Carthage and IWU @ Carroll. Both NPU and Carroll could have ended 6-4. IWU had to play NCC the last game. If NPU beat Elmhurst too to get 7-3 even better. There were some games today like Texas Lutheran scored with 33 seconds to tie and won in OT. Are they in if they lose? You just needed one more pool C knocked out. It's not official until NCAA numbers come out.

If you look at the d3 Datacast dataset you'll notice that most teams with 5 wins have a NPI under 54. A NPI over 54 is important because when you beat a team whose NPI is over 54 you can add to your game NPI an additional game win in bonus. What drags these 5 win teams under 54. They have to include all their wins even the ones that may drag their NPI down.

Thanks👍

Quote from: CarollFan on November 09, 2024, 08:08:31 PMIt will be interesting to see the NPI's.
In CCIW no team looks like they will end up with 6 wins. 4 teams could end up 5-5.
6-4 is better from a NPI standpoint not only because less losses but you can get rid of worst win.

so you make it sound like Wheaton is a long shot to get in?

Quote from: Crusader92 on November 09, 2024, 04:52:36 PM64-10 Wheaton over Milikin. Thunder ended the game taking a knee inside the 10. In some ways they really didn't play that well despite the score. If NP plays to their potential next week it could be interesting. I'm flying in just for the game, and looking forward to a good one.

It depends on what "not that well" means? The first two series the d was letting Milikin get yards, but after 2 series it was shut down. But the pass offense could do anything it wanted, and the run game had no issues. But again, that was Milikin and I agree, North Park is not someone to take lightly.

Quote from: USee on November 04, 2024, 09:04:08 AMAlso Oshkosh plays UWO, Linfield plays undefeated Whitworth, Carnegie Mellon play Case Western, Marietta plays Mt Union and john Carroll, Bethel plays St Johns again, and Brockport plays the NCAA. In addition there are a bunch of games Pool A teams could lose that bump them into C. Lots of variables.
So as a Wheaton fan, what do you honestly think the chances are of them getting in? Above 70% or below?

Go NPU, you convinced me!!!

Question for D3 experts. I was watching in the D3Huddle on Facebook and they sure seemed upset about the new NPI system. As a Wheaton fan, it sure seems like it was a mistake to schedule Oshkosh at the beginning of the season. I remember when we played Northwestern (Minn) and ran them off the field. Will teams go back to scheduling easy teams to have a good record so they will get in? It sure seems silly to only rely on computer numbers? Having Whitewater at 80 is absolutely crazy. And North Central is going to get robbed again, they will have to run the gauntlet to make it to the National Championship all beat up. This is nuts from my novice perspective. What say you?

Replying to USEE on the pass interference call against Wash U. It reminds me of the Wheaton vs. Oshkosh call when they called pass interference on the Thundar with a minute to go in the game. I thought the call was terrible, the pulling of the jersey was so insignificant, and if they didn't make that call Wheaton would have beaten Oshkosh and just think where they would be ranked today!!! That still makes me mad, but I guess that is the way it goes!

The Wheaton game was frustrating on every level. They have two weeks to figure it out because Auggie looks hungry again.

Question for NCC fans: Has there been any frustration from Aurora people when their best reciever transfered over to North Central? Just wondering since the schools are so close and they play at the beginning of the season. Should be interesting!
