Quote from: FanaticFan458 on November 11, 2024, 08:54:51 PMHow does Cortland, who won the SUNYAC and had several incredible wins get such an unfavorable draw? Messiah and Williams is quite a gauntlet and for me is the toughest pod in the tournament.

Agree thats the bracket of death...

Quote from: kansas hokie on November 06, 2024, 11:02:45 AMAdjusted my sheet to 43 AQ, thank you!

Important bubble games tonight 11/6....

Virginia Wesleyan / Washington & Lee - VA Wesleyan is in right now at 35, but a loss or even a tie will likely see them drop out of an at-large spot. W&L is at 30 so carries some risk as well. Two teams battling for conference final bid but also having real implications for their NCAA chances.

SUNY Oneonta / SUNY Cortland - Cortland (28) is likely in but no guarantees as it's a new NPI world. Oneonta (46) is much simpler, they have to win for their season to continue.

previewing tomorrow (11/7)...

Augsburg / St. Olaf - does Augsburg jump up and take an at-large with a win here?
Redlands vs. Chapman - same here for Redlands have to win to jump up

Both Augsburg and Redlands still likely need to win their final to stay up though.

SUNYAC
Cortland wins over Oneonta in PK's so goes down as a tie..
Buff state wins over New Paltz

Tough for Platts to lose especially after outplaying NP for most of the Match. They ran out of gas after first OT.

NP gifted Platts their first Goal, NP CB pass right to a Platts player who drove forward and buried it.

Both NP goals were controversial

First goal  offensive player appeared to climb over defenders back on and  in second Platts MF appeared to be tripped/grabbed as he dribbled at midfield lost the ball and NP countered with two quick passes and a goal.
First looked more egregious

With this loss, tie for NPI purposes, doubtful Platts has enough now to get in NCAA as an open bid.

New Paltz back 4 match up well with the Platts offense. I fully expect this to be a tight one goal match 1-0 or 2-1.....possibly overtime.

Quote from: stlawus on October 29, 2024, 05:59:34 PMIt was most assuredly a card worthy offense, but typical after play yellow card worthy antics, not a red in my view but borderline enough that it' s not the worst call in the world.  However, the referee missed the Plattsburgh player commit an equally egregious offense right before which is why they got bailed out with the call that was made.  Regardless, it did not affect the field of play as the keeper had already had control of the ball and occurred after the play was over.  The offense wasn't a result of Plattsburgh creating anything.   I like to think I normally can make unbiased officiating observations, but I can see how someone can think this is my partisan leaning showing.   SLU-Plattburgh used to mean something so I'd like to see Plattsburgh play SLU with their full team for once, hopefully that game gets scheduled earlier in the season next year.

We'll see how much NPI actually moves after this week for other teams so this could likely have been academic in the end even if they won.   One thing I've come to appreciate about Tosh is how he keeps the sideline under control and doesn't do any theatrics towards the opposing team.  I've seen the opposite happen with several programs I've normally had a lot of respect for in recent years, including today.

Platts. Supporter perspective here...I agree call was not Red worthy and that it looked like play was over but I saw it live and not looked at the video yet.

This was a great soccer match to watch, very good play by both squads.

SLU was on a higher level play than Platts first 10-15 min of match. Platts grew into the match. Second half was all Platts..

Platts GK (their backup GK) made an error on SLU goal it was great service by SLU into the box but the GK hesitated then called for it and whiffed.

I did not think there was a foul on the GK who slid out and stopped shot then caught the SLU player who went over sliding GK, just a soccer play

Platts sat three players out - their Starting GK a forward and a MF who started the non-conference matches, both field players with 4 yellows.

I agree seeing these teams with full squads would be a great match. I knew from reading this board they had good offensive players, however I thought the SLU back line played really well, big, strong but good soccer players.

My first time at SLU very  nice pitch and complex. Announcer was great as well.

Quote from: SKUD on October 28, 2024, 09:29:57 AMThat is a tough conference. Do you think they joined to make an attempt to attract a higher caliber student-athlete?

They will be competing with SLU, Clarkson, Potsdam and Plattsburgh that's a tough sell....

Cortland ties @ Buff State, Buff State clinches #1 overall seed and a bye in the first round in the SUNYAC Conference playoffs.

Oneonta with a HUGE come from behind victory 2-1 today versus Fredonia which gives them the #2 overall seed and a bye in the first round in the SUNYAC Conference playoffs. After Oneonta tied the match up a few minutes before, Fredonia turns the ball over near the midfield line, Oneonta counters but the Fredonia D gets the ball cleared toward the sideline and the outside back attempts to clear the ball back thru the middle of the field Oneonta intercepts drives forward, one pass to Ali Somorow who skins the defender to the outside cuts around defender and places an accurate pass back to his teammate at the six who one times it in. Fredonia loses and gets knocked out of playoffs.

New Paltz closes out the regular season with a disappointing loss at Oswego 0-2. That's three losses out of last four games to end the season with no goals scored in the three losses.

NP travels to Platts. for the #4 - #5 matchup.

Oswego win and a loss by Fredonia allows Oswego to get the #6 seed and a match away versus #3 Cortland.

Big win by Oneonta 2-0 over NP scoring early and late. Oneonta had the better of play most of the match. Oneonta puts themselves in a good spot for a home match
2nd they need help (for a bye in first round) or a home match for finishing in the third or fourth spot.

Cortland @ Buffalo saturday for 1st overall in SUNYAC. A Buff state draw or win puts them in top spot. A loss by Cortland and an Oneonta win (play Oswego) drops Cortland to third slot.

Quote from: stlawus on October 23, 2024, 06:41:17 PMIt's difficult going from a conference like the NAC to the SUNYAC so there is a grace period, but SUNY Canton has got to figure something out on the recruiting trail this offseason.  Through 8 league games they have been outscored 28-0.

I have watched 10 or 15 minutes stretches from week to week to get an idea what they have and its not good on either side of the ball. Morrisville meanwhile has rarely been blown out and has been in most games.

Oswego with a chance to play spoiler and help themselves clinch the last playoff spot, however they have two tough matches this week @ Buff State & home versus NP.

NP defense suffocates Buff States offense and wns 2-0; two goals in two minutes late second half. Buff State opens the door for Cortland with last conference match for both likely to determine 1st overall.

NP still controls own destiny to host a playoff match. They host Oneonta on Wed.
Which will help determine playoff seeding.

Platts. is lurking a few points behind, with two very winnable matches Potsdam & Canton. Platts. has the head to head tie breaker advantage versus both NP & Oneonta.

Exciting times in the SUNYAC with top slots still not decided.

Quote from: Crossit4fun on October 15, 2024, 02:09:57 PMInteresting matchups this week in SUNYAC with Conference Playoff seeding implications:

Wed.
New Platz @ Platts. - NP is on a hot streak and Platts is up and down...
Oneonta @ Buff. State - Buff State undefeated in and out of conference play

Sat.
Platts @ Oswego - likely for the 5th or 6th playoff spots (last two)
Buff @ NP potentially for the #1 seed if both win on Wed. and possibly

Buff State looks legit with a 2-0 win over Oneonta after beating Platt. 3-2. Buff. State controls its own destiny for the #1 seed with 3 matches to go last one versus Cortland.

Platt bounces back with a 1-0 win over New Paltz ending NP's hot streak and giving NP its first conference loss.

Buff state @ NP on Saturday should be a really good matchup - NP's defense versus Buff state offense
