You guys are funny. Who has scored 80 against Bowdoin this year? Nobody.

Quote from: nescac1 on January 16, 2025, 12:34:11 PMBowdoin lost handily to Bates

Although I don't expect Bowdoin to shoot 17.6% from 3PT or 31.6% at the free throw line as they did in the first game against Bates. I think tomorrow will be an entirely different Polar Bear experience. Also nice that they play them in Brunswick. Bates has been shooting the ball well and it should be a good game.

And I agree about Colby... their body of work does not suggest they are a better team than Bowdoin or Bates. In addition to losing to both Bates (-11) and Bowdoin (-19), their 2 best wins are Conn. and Maine-Farmington.

Maine wins against teams <200 NPI:
  Bates: 5
  Bowdoin: 4
  Colby: 1

Quote from: el_jefe_90 on January 11, 2025, 12:10:41 PMBy transit of properties, it would mean Tufts would blow out D1 Harvard?

Ummmm. be careful with that one. Tufts lost to Nichols who only beat Curry (NPI 399) by 5 and who lost to Gordon.

Bowdoin came out flat and did not play at the same level they played against Emory or Harvard, but that does not mean they are not a good team. Also, Reeves came out with an injury after about a minute of play which hurt. Tufts size is a real problem and I think that will serve them well in NESCAC play.

Credit to Tufts for an overwhelming performance. They played physical and shot the ball well to run away with the game early.

After a bad outing against Bates, it was great to see Bowdoin come back strong against 2 ranked squads. I thought Bowdoin looked better overall than Carnegie Mellon and it took an amazing performance by Justin Allen for them to win by 3. The Tartans finished 12% from 3PT range which wasn't a fluke... Bowdoin is 1st in the country in 3PT defense at 20%.

In the Emory game, Bowdoin charged out to a 6-0 lead and held Emory scoreless for 5 minutes! The game was close 7 minutes into the second half with Bowdoin trailing by 2. At that point Emory went on a run and finished with a decisive win, but holding Emory (who was averaging 89) to their season low of 69 points, and their second lowest scoring margin after Calvin (9), is impressive. Emory shot 16% from 3PT range and 33% from the field - both season lows.

Considering that Carnegie Mellon and Emory are a combined 15-1 and Emory is ranked #1 in the country, Bowdoin has proven they can compete with the best teams in the country. To win those games Bowdoin will need to limit the turnovers and have a little more consistency on offense, but their defense is looking great.

Quote from: nescac1 on November 22, 2024, 01:16:03 PMThe NESCAC / UAA tournament is a great new tradition, though it would be nice if more of the NESCAC contenders, as opposed to the middle and bottom tier, participated ...

To be fair – the top UAA teams from last year did not participate in the NESCAC/UAA challenge either. Carnegie Mellon (#3) was the only top-4 finisher and Bowdoin beat them. Other participants were Emory (#5), Chicago (#6T), Brandeis (#6T), and Rochester (#8). Unless I am missing someone.

And you can't really anticipate who the top teams will be, as there is always movement from one year to the next? In the last 4 NESCAC seasons, 9 different teams have finished in the top 3 (including Middlebury, Hamilton, and Colby).
