Hard loss for the Saints today. I thought they did well to absorb some of the early pressure from Vassar. You have to do that playing away in a cup final. Vassar had the better of play but it wasn't lopsided by any stretch. SLU created problems for them and the game could have fairly gone either way. I'm gutted for the boys who gave a really good account of themselves this season. I hope Tosh can go out and bring in a banner class with some kids who will be ready to step in as freshman next year. I care little about their background or where they come from - I want to see quality footballers. And that the returners invest themselves in the offseason - which starts tomorrow for any player who truly wants to do something special with their short time in Canton.

What a game. These SAINTS have tremendous character to not give up on the game after Skidmore's late go ahead goal. They were pretty lackluster most of the game but, credit to Skidmore's stingy defensive commitment and organization. They are a tough team to break down. Henry Brown finds a way and absolute screamer from the Dutchman. Can't wait for Sunday! It would be quite the story for the critics and the doubters if they can find a way to pull an upset at Vassar.

I don't see a team that passes around the back with no purpose. I saw SLU trying to play between lines and be dangerous going forward. They are trying to take risks and at times they do play negative to maintain possession. But certainly they have some tools in different phases of their buildup that can break teams down and there is a clear concept beginning to emerge. Playing good footie is very difficult, takes time to develop and the college season is so short that often it doesn't really take shape until tournament time. I believe this group's best is yet to come.

Very interesting to learn of these perspectives. Thank you for sharing. I love watching teams like SLU that go out and try to play good footie. Hats off to Clarkson as well. They look like a program on the up. They have some nifty players in there with some real quality.
Seems to me that SLU have some really nice pieces and I really hope for the sake of the beautiful game that they start translating their wonderful attacking movements to goalazos and Ws.

Interesting to hear this perspective. Why do you think the program has cut ties with it's history? I find that compelling - most programs continue to build on a rich history and can't think of another program that would go that direction which has had a storied past. I'm no expert for sure.

SLU looked really good in the first half and just needs a touch of luck and a bit more quality in front of goal. Tough break for the Goalkeeper who has been otherwise dependable. Only a matter of time til it all comes together for these Saints.

Really enjoyed watching SLU play Potsdam this weekend. They have some good pieces and it was nice to see improvements going forward. They were unlucky not to finish a few of the great chances they created. It is very difficult to play the kind of soccer that they aspire to play, it would be much easier to approach the game like many college programs do to sit in, be organized defensively, and to rely on counter attack, balls in behind and set pieces. But you have to respect those programs like SLU that play expansive attacking-possession soccer. I will be watching with intrigue to see if these young men can translate it into victories as they get into league play.

I really like Henry Brown... That young man could be big time over the next few years. He reminds me of Brendan Gorman with his smooth blend of pace, power and savvy.
It's really hard to play good football - be patient. The best is yet to come.
Go Saints!!
