Exciting news out of Williamstown...

Will be great for the league at large and happy to see an Eph succeed! Hoping that a team will take a chance on him as a practice squad guy. Maybe a two-way contract in the front office and on the field XD

Quote from: Nescacman on September 26, 2024, 11:04:33 AMWe have to defend ourselves here....our commentary on the former Hartford State all-league QB were mostly (and obviously) tongue-in-cheek. He was a very talented player who led the Bants to championships and many wins in the NESCAC. We were, at times, critical of some of his non-playing behaviors (as others on this Board were) but frankly, in retrospect, they were probably more out of his passion for the game and desire to win. Kudo's to him. He was a great player. BTW, we have been in touch directly with Spencer and have told him that directly. We hope to have him on our podcast at some point in the future.

We do think the post directed at the Ephs offensive lineman was over the top and inappropriate.

C'mon now Nescacman... this seems like a bit of revisionist history. There are more than a few examples of you singling out Fetter, calling him soft and questioning his toughness and leadership. These didn't come off as tongue-in-cheek to me then or now. Glad to hear you've patched things up with Spencer. I give him credit for not holding comments like these against you:

Quote from: Nescacman on November 07, 2023, 02:05:54 PMwe all know Fetter is soft
Quote from: Nescacman on November 14, 2023, 09:19:40 PMWay better (and tougher) than Fetter, IOO.
Quote from: Nescacman on October 29, 2021, 03:13:54 PMFetter is one-dimensional (and looks very fragile to us)
Quote from: Nescacman on October 12, 2023, 11:50:10 PMWe know that some of the Hartford State lovers out there will take offense to this but we are not a fan of Spencer Fetter. Fetter clearly benefits from being surrounded year after year by the most offensive talent in the league and consistently one of the best o-lines in the league. We've said it before and we'll say it again. After watching him in person numerous times, we think he's "SAWFT", he does not like getting hit, and we don't appreciate the way he treats his teammates. We also don't appreciate public comments he has made towards the competition (go do a Google search if you want to see for yourself). Our opinion, put Fetter in Clinton, Lewiston, or Waterville, and he would be mediocre at best. Put Kenny Gray in Hartford and he would have been a legend. We'll take a tough SOB (and good teammate) like Maimaron, Estevez, Gray, Ollie, Coyne et al any day of the week over a guy like Fetter. Tough guy to root for if you ask us.

As a long time lurker and first time poster on the boards, thank you for showing where I could've been confused in my earlier remarks. I have seen similar rhetoric directed at other players, and viewed my statements more so as controversial than out of line. Trin9-0 Seems to have receipts that explain why I thought my discourse was acceptable albeit be a little bit rough on the individual player.

Quote from: Laravit on September 26, 2024, 08:52:29 AMBig key to victory for Williams vs. Trinity will be replacing their lackluster left guard. He has seemed gassed and overwhelmed in both matchups so far. Talented recruits Ethan Shames and Will Robke could look to fill that position. I just cannot see a scenario where he takes the field on Saturday. Many instances of undiscipline, head-scratching plays from him vs. Colby that forced scrambles. I'm sure the kid shows up and works hard, but the Ephs really need a solution there to see sustained success for the remainder of the season.

I know current athletes from the NESCAC read these boards, but they are 18-23 year old men. I'm sure that they can handle an honest critique of their play from someone who watched them in action. The film does not lie, and neither will their coaches. I noticed some glaring mistakes (MAs, running the wrong play, missed blocks, etc.) on some crucial downs across both games the Ephs have played this year. Simply called it how I saw it, with no reflection of the young man's character or work-ethic. In all honesty I hope he is able to improve through the season.

Quote from: EphsML on September 26, 2024, 10:53:29 AMWilliams OL play has looked a little sluggish since the departure of Harry Walsh at right tackle. Big test this week against a Bantams team in Hartford.

Undoubtedly, this is a better way of looking at my take on the line play of the Ephs. Hank Walsh was a special player for sure. The 1-2 punch of him and John Freeman brought the boom, for sure.

Word out of Waterville is that a young Eph lost part of a finger on the first onside attempt by Colby, and remained on the field for the second attempt after it was called back due to a return team false start. William's trainer was seen carrying it out in a bag of ice after the game.
