Did anyone here go see WOU play against Kingsville.  I just read that there were 5 personal foul calls against the Wolves.  Old habits die hard, eh?

Texas A & M-Kingsville had five personal fouls, not the Wolves. Kingsville fans even apologized for their team's behavior.

I went to Perry's Basketball Camp, had a great time. I went twice actually. Ted Wilson was a wonderful man, great guy to be around, very personable, classy.

Linfield had a couple players there, one guy was big time, I think the name was Wickman.  He had the build and skills of a D-I guy, easily.

Beautiful location, fun camp. I think the location is still being used as a hoop camp.

Not sure if this has been posted yet or not, anyway, Jay Locey to be guest speaker for Corvallis HS football event. Nothing huge, I just thought it was cool that the guy is giving back to his alma mater:

No chip, I was excited when Brett transferred to Linfield. I knew he'd do well as I saw him play in high school and he was tremendous. I love his quotes regarding the game of football is about playing and not sitting on the bench, and the difference between the two. I loved the NY Times article on the guy.

I also have a great deal of respect for Linfield and what they've accomplished. They win and in turn do so with class.

My only beef is the "two passes and he's a lock for the NFL" and "he's better than most QBs out there" and that some ESPN announcer doesn't like Elliott or Linfield enough. I just don't think ESPN or their announcers have any kind of built-in dislike for Linfield.

I get real tired of the "no respect" card ... it was even played by Tom Brady this year. Everyone plays that card, from Linfield on up ... I've long been tired of it.

If it wasn't Bob Davie, it would've been someone else. He's right on some accounts: D3 talent is much inferior to D-I talent, but should've balanced criticizing both QBs for their mistakes, not just Elliott.

I like Davie on ESPN, I think he's pretty sharp.

Broadcasters are straw men: They'll be knocked down no matter how good or bad they are. If it was Tirico or Fowler or Gottfried and they didn't gush over Elliott, they would've been trashed, too.

It's not Davie per se, it's Brett didn't get enough love in Linfield fans' eyes. They should just admit that.

No, I just think he's being a realist. The whole Bob Davie conspiracy thing is hilarious. And you just know if Brett doesn't make the NFL, there will be another conspiracy theory.

I like Brett and think he's great, I'm glad he's graduating; tired of the constant worship of the guy.

Funny Beancounter ... read the D-I boards some time (especially OSU) and they hate every announcer that ever called a game, every OSU player is a first-team All-American (then why are they 5-6?), and the announcers just don't understand us!

Be happy Linfield was represented at the Hula Bowl, and if Elliott and Allen are worthy of big-time accolades, they'd be going to the combine or be getting drafted.

The hand-wringing that will go on here when Elliott doesn't get drafted will be interesting. "Hey, he's better than that Big 10/SEC/Pac-10 QB, etc.

D3 talent is watered down as is D2 and NAIA. George Carter, Allen, Hazenberg, etc., are the exceptions not the rule in D3.

If Linfield continues to get players of that talent, they'll continue to do well. Those three could probably play at the I-AA level.

Some of WOU's best receivers over the years would've been cut by average to bad Oregon State teams. That's just the way it is.

As to whether Davie has watched any D3 football, I'm not sure.

I'm always surprised when people don't know the difference between D-I and the rest of the NCAA world. I had classmates at WOU who were slow as molasses b-tching about getting snubbed by OSU and UO ... riiiiiiiight.

Now given the opportunity, Allen and Hazenberg might be able to play I-AA ball, and actually both might contend for starting positions in the Big Sky. Then again, maybe not. I'd have to see them do it, not just talk it.

Defensive backs in the NWC and also D2 and NAIA are slow and not very athletic. Defensive backs at D-I are explosive, quick, extremely fast, athletic, and are monsters in the weight room. There's a huge difference.

I hope Brett makes it to the next level, be it NFL Europe, the NFL, or Arena. I think he has the skills to play somewhere, perhaps in the CFL.

RFB, Bob Davie is right, however. The DBs and receivers at the small college level really aren't that great. Go to a D-I practice some time and there are guys 6-4, who run 4.4's who are sitting on the sidelines. There are exceptions now and then of guys who could play up, perhaps in I-AA (Allen, Hazenberg, Hinshaw of WOU a few years ago), but Bob Davie is correct. The DBs at the D3 level are awful, as are those at D2.

To be honest, the DBs aren't very good at the I-AA level. It's a tough position to recruit, even at the high D-I level. Most DBs played RB or WR as a prep and wanted to play offense in college, then they're moved to the defense. At the I-AA level, you're left with a lot of scraps. It gets much worse at the D2, D3, and NAIA levels.

Elliott is a good QB, he would not light up D-I teams like he did the D3 teams he played against. C'mon: there is a huge difference between UPS DBs and Pac-10 DBs.

Bob Davie was completely correct.

Also, you need more than two passes to evaluate a QB for the NFL level. Jeff George could sling the ball 80 yards, Ryan Leaf could fire it a good 70 yards. Much, much more goes into the evaluation process than two passes.

I've seen a lot better QBs than Brett Elliott not make it to the pros ... though I do hope Brett makes it.

He won't get drafted.

Click on the Linfield game (for WU fans, click on the Willamette game). Old stuff, you've probably seen it. Elliott has that pro look going for him. Big crowd, nice day ... wish I could've made it.

Great season Wildcats, wish you would've repeated as national champs, but still great year with Brett winning the trophy.

Recruiting season is on us and I know D3 doesn't really have such a season, but do you guys have any names of players who are interested in Linfield? I've heard rumors of some D-I transfers coming in ... would be interesting to find out who those are.

Great season ... not sure if you play the Wolves or not next year. If so, it will be in McMinnville -- ouch!

What's with Lewis & Clark?  They don't even say what happened to their football coach, a guy they promoted big time last year. Guy was foolish to cast his lot at that school.

L & C is the school that can't shoot straight. Either become Reed College with athletics or get behind your athletic program. There's no inbetween (I know, WOU's admin kind of half-a$$es its support and that is not good) ... you either support it from the president level on down, or you don't.

What a mess.

Good point desertcat. I think the adminstration has to convince the student body that athletics can be fun, an enjoyable part of the undergraduate experience. Yeah, many birkenstock folk at L & C hate athletics.

I knew many in the WOU student body who didn't like athletics, and many more who did like sports, but not WOU sports and wanted to attend OSU and UO games only. School spirit at WOU is lacking, we have a very disjointed student body, many commuters from Salem. There are some small rabid groups, usually football players like to attend hoop games and so forth; and on-campus students do, too.

The Pios charge is to make athletics a fun event and get some support. Yes, money is not an issue at L & C -- convincing the bong heads that athletics is fun is a challenge. Hey, they could always market to the student body in giving out Hemp shirts and free bongs, then it would be standing room only!   ;D
