MUC Radio does a VERY nice job.  They are pretty straight forward and not bias.
WETN and WONC crews, whoa!  Does Cap have a crew?

Haven't listened to WETN, but WONC has been all over the defense. I would say a cardinal slant, but not biased. They are being honest.

WONC will have live coverage from St. Paul beginning at 6:40pm with the Cardinal Chase for the Championship pre-game show. Tip-off at 7. The link is www.wonc.org.

P.S. I'm not too pleased with the NCAA about all the traveling I personally have to do now, but it's exciting to cover a tourney team so I won't complain (too much anyway).

Just a friendly reminder if you want a NCC feel of things tonight, WONC will be on the air at 5:40 with the pre-game show. Jason Lamar and Wayne Randazzo will have the call.

My bad iwufans...i was looking at a different poster that said dumben down. i apologize. i agree harrigan was a huge part and probably should be POY, but i think simmons was a huge reason ncc finished second.

cardinalpride,
I am not saying Simmons does not belong on the first team, but stats do not always tell the whole story of a player and his worth, or contributions.  Using just the same stats you listed:

Simmons:
20pts(4th in CCIW)
6.4 reb(7th in CCIW)
4 asst(4th in CCIW)
53% FG(7th in CCIW).
Team record 9-5(2nd in CCIW)

Harrigan: Augustana
21.4pts (1st in CCIW)
Rebounds (not ranked in top 15)
Assists (not ranked in top 15)
FG % (not ranked in top 15)
Team record 11-3 (1st in CCIW)

Many on here are touting Harrigan for the Player of the Year.
So the question becomes, what makes a "first teamer"?  The five players with the best stats?  The most valuable player from each team?  Or is it the five most valuable players overall in the league?

I'm not sure where you are going? Yes there are other things than stats to look at, but for the most part stats are all you have. This is especially true about Simmons. He does multiple things well and the stats obviously reflect that. If Harrigan doesn't score for his team, then he is rather useless. Before last night's game he had 17 assists in 24 games. Harrigan is a fantastic scorer, but Simmons is a more complete player and that is why he belongs on the first team.

You mentioned the obvious four and said Simmons would "dumb down" the first team. Who would you put up there then?

I would personally like to thank Q for posting all of the tiebreaker info. It will be very helpful for the broadcast on Saturday.

On a different topic, I tend to agree with Q about Wheaton and Carthage playing on Wednesday. It would be fine if everyone played that night and then the tourney was Friday, but that's not the case.

P.S. Congrats to Ray Vicario who now holds the NCC record for most 3's made in a season (64), and is currently in second place on the all-time list with 148.

I guess I should finally comment on the game last night. Another rough one for the Cards. I thought they outplayed the Titans for 35 minutes, but that isn't 40. What a great shooting war between Keelan and Vicario. Cards really hurt themselves by allowing 12 offensive rebounds to the Titans. Have to give the Titans credit for only turning the ball over once in the 2nd half.

Quick observation: Dauksas had zero, zip, nada fouls last night. The kid is good, but he gets away with rape out on the court.

Don't expect a 7:30 tip-off in Naperville. The refs are extremely late and the scheduled 5:15 tip for the women's game probably won't happen until 6:15 or 6:30. My best guess would be 8:15 tip-off time for the men's game. Don't be alarmed if you don't hear the game until then.

cardinal20,

That was a very brief, low volume, under control, profanity-free "argument" on Bollier's part.  The official in question, in my experience of his games, has a quick whistle and has difficulty keeping himself from getting his ego involved even faster than his whistle.  If the ref in question had "had enough from him and the coaches", then he needed to address the coaches together at the scorer's table, rather than adding to his litany of poor calls with a momentum-swinging call like the T on Bollier.

If trying to draw a third foul on a key opponent in the first half is a bad basketball strategy, that's probably news to a lot of fans, players, and coaches out there, I'm guessing.......and  you say "all over the place" like it's a bad thing.

I agree with the quick whistle, but he was talking with the officials a lot during the first half. In this instance, all over the place is a bad thing because he cost his team 5 or 6 possessions by throwing up bad shots. You tried to twist my words. Of course it's smart basketball, but not when it takes your team out of the game and rhythm they had. It's better to score points instead of drawing fouls on opponents? Maybe fouls are more important than points cause that would be news to me.

capped off by a quick T given to Tony Bollier, not known for  "untoward" behavior, to say the least.

Tony got a technical?? Huh?? Why on earth? What happened Pete?  ??? :-\

Thank you, incindentally, for the insight on the games.  As an unbiased fan, who is extremely insightful, your opinions are always very much appreciated, and necessary for good discussion!

Let me start by saying the officiating was poor at best. Harris and Raridon were both on the officials all night. Bollier was trying really hard for a good 5 minutes to get Teising his 3rd foul in the 1st half. He was all over the place and was trying extremely too hard. He took himself out of the game. Finally, he argued one of the calls and the official had enough from him and the coaches.

Looking ahead to tomorrow night, obviously a big game for both teams, but the Cards need some confidence on their home court. After dropping a tough one vs. Elmhurst in their first home game, this game will set the tone for the rest of the season with only one more game on the road (at Elmhurst). If the Cards win, we could see them win out.

Just a friendly reminder, WONC does every NCC game. Some people were asking if the game was on the radio and there's your answer. Unfortunately, there isn't the same crew every night, but it is a learning institution. Always check it out cause there are quality broadcasters at WONC.

Great game last night in Rock Island. I came out really impressed by Harrigan. The Cards had pretty good defense most of the night, but lost him at times through the maze of screens. No mention of double teams on the broadcast because there were none. I really thought this was a situation where the Cards miss Pat Flanagan. He did nice job on defense last year on the opponent's number one scorer.

Coach Raridon after the game mentioned the Cards really collapsed in the final two minutes. Down the stretch the shot selection was questionable at best and too many turnovers. Two stats that proved crucial were 16 TO's to 6 and Augie had 10 more shot attempts (28-52 for NCC and 28-62 for Augie). Look for the Cards to bounce back at home. I don't seeing them lose this one at home, especially since it is their first conference home game.

Oh and the enthusiasm on the call is a result of the game. Make no mistake where the allegiance lies. It pained me to see all those Augie fans going crazy. Almost sick to my stomach.

I saw the game last night in Carthage and I totally agree that Bosko didn't coach. I even commented during the game that the team had the same intensity as their coach. He just sat their all night and wasn't his usual self. All the talk of getting him out might be a little premature, but he did mail it in last night.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the Cards have a great shot at knocking off the Vikings. The frontcourt of Simmons, Walton, and Krumtinger have been great all year and last night Vicario was lights out (5-7 from 3). That is a lot of weapons you have to stop if they are all on. Also, it is the last game on a 7-game road trip and the biggest. If the Cards can pull it off, then they are definitely in the driver's seat with only one remaining road game this year.
