Just a note to mention that, four months later, Mr. Rollins apparently is still in the portal as he hasn't announced a landing yet.

Same for a few Huntingdon guys who announced in December that they were in the portal. There were a few posts early on about offers but none have updated about where they might be going.

It hasn't been published yet but this is supposed to be Huntingdon's schedule.

6-Sep    at Berry
13-Sep    Hendrix
20-Sep    McMurry
4-Oct    Methodist
11-Oct    at Greensboro
18-Oct    NC Wesleyan
25-Oct    at Lagrange
1-Nov    at Brevard
8-Nov    Southern Va
15-Nov    at Belhaven

Unfortunately we couldn't match a date with Maryville but were able to pick up McMurry for week three. I don't know if that's a home-and-home or a single game.

Quote from: jknezek on March 27, 2025, 09:19:46 AMI'm also kind of shocked that the club teams don't pay for themselves. I know we did at W&L. I think the club rugby and soccer teams got a whopping $1000 each from the school every year, but everything else the players paid for.

But it's hockey, which means a rink/facility that is probably not multi use.

I know. Hockey is the most crazily expensive sport. Again, it's a club sport. I'm surprised the school is paying much of anything for it. In my experience, that's not really how club sports at colleges work. The college doesn't pay, the athletes pay. I'm not sure why renting rink time would change that equation much for a club sport. More expensive for the athletes, but if you grew up playing youth hockey you know the drill on expenses.

According to their website the rink is on campus and is open air. If you find it on google maps, it is a roofed pavilion but the sides are open.

McMurry has posted their 2025 schedule some time during the last few days. It shows McMurry coming to Montgomery week 3 to play Huntingdon. I was told a few weeks ago that this was being discussed when Huntingdon-Maryville couldn't come up with a compatible date. I wasn't sure if it would be home or away until seeing this. I don't know if this is a home-and-home or a one year deal.

I don't remember if this has been discussed here but it also shows Nov. 15 as Conference Championship Weekend in Little Rock.

Schools in the CCS that have sports that there aren't enough of to sponsor/have an AQ are all affiliated with the USA South in those sports. I'm not sure if those affiliations are contractual as part of the USAC/CCS split or not. Of course, Belhaven joined in the first season of the CCS so may not have that obligation if it does exist.

Quote from: Ralph Turner on February 18, 2025, 11:31:23 PMAs a private voluntary association, I do not understand why the NCAA cannot create a "D3 without NIL".

Same reason why some dotard can spill hot coffee in his lap and sue McDonald's for serving hot coffee. Too many lawyers!  :P

That coffee was 180-190 degrees F and caused the claimant third-degree burns. She was in the hospital for eight days for skin grafting.

No doubt that there are many frivolous lawsuits, but Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants was not one of them!

I just checked the program of my Keurig that's part of my refrigerator. It heats at 180 before dispensing. So, perhaps I can burn myself and sue! :P

Just don't put a balm on it before the meeting with the Keurig lawyers.  ;)

You're right. It's probably the one near Nashville. The one in Birmingham has a Senior Tour event in May every year so they might not want another event so close to that.

It looks like the one near Nashville is called GreyStone Golf Club. There's a Greystone Country Club near Birmingham.

One more next week, at home against Greensboro to finish 5-5.

Go Hawks!

Quote from: jknezek on November 07, 2024, 10:16:24 AMMaryville should have no trouble finishing off teams that are 4-12 combined. Brevard and LaGrange are both one game behind in conference, with M'Ville holding the h2h over LaGrange but the Brevard game is listed as postponed thanks to Hurricane Helene. It would be interesting to see what would happen if M'Ville slipped up, but I just don't see it happening against hapless Greensboro or NC Wes.

It would be nice if the Brevard-Maryville game could be played but there isn't a good way to make it happen. Swapping opponents week 11 would have Brevard at Maryville but someone would also have to convince NC Wesleyan to make a trip to Kentucky Christian(Brevard's scheduled week 11 opponent). If that were to happen and Brevard were to beat Maryville then you could still have a mess if Lagrange wins out. At that point you would have Lagrange and Brevard at 7-1 in conference but Maryville would only be 6-1 as they still wouldn't have played NC Wesleyan. Since that wouldn't actually be a three way tie then Lagrange would get the AQ by having the head-to-head over Brevard. The only way to get all three to 8 conference games would be to send Brevard to play Maryville on something like Tuesday. I can't imagine that really being an option though.

Never mind. It looks like NC Wesleyan and Belhaven made this post moot and cleaned up any potential messes. Congrats, Maryville.

Yep. Several weeks of less than good football. A lot like the bad year we had in 2018. Stopped by the JV game today and saw more guys on crutches and guys with boots. Too many of those this year. There are a whole lot of young guys getting to play and gain experience for the future though, so hopefully we can have a good bounce-back like we had in 2019.

Go Hawks!

Quote from: Ron Boerger on October 28, 2024, 02:45:35 PMLogan Hanson tweeted today that if TLU wins out they have a 99.1% chance of being selected.
Yeah, and I remember last November that Auburn had a 99% chance of winning against Alabama with Alabama 4th down and goal at the 31...
And would have won if not for making possibly the stupidest defensive play call in football history.

We just didn't play well enough to overcome a very good Maryville team and some iffy officiating.
Need to get back on track against Brevard for homecoming next.
Surprised to see that Brevard lost to Lagrange yesterday.

Go Hawks!

Hawks went to Fayetteville and did what they needed to do. Got the lead early and the defense kept them controlled the whole way. Took care of business on the long trip and were able to get a lot of young guys on the field in the second half.
Now to see what we really have with two big ones coming up. At Maryville next week then home against Brevard.

Let's go Hawks.
