Raiderguy-

What a small world, Chuck and I roomed together our sophomore years at what was then STC (now UST) and we also wound up living off campus with some other guys our senior year.  He was in my wedding and is a good friend of mine.  We usually get together and golf at least once each summer with a few other UST alums.
He mentioned, while we were at the UST-SJU game this year, having a neighbor from MUC who was tight with some SJU fans and I got to thinking that the guy he was referring to might be you.  Once I found out your moniker I thought I would ask.  Thats just crazy.

Raiderguy-

I know I asked this previously but you may not have seen it posted, Do you have a neighbor from New Prague?  If so, please respond when it is convenient for you  as I will check the board later this evening if not sooner.  Thanks.

Dutch fans,

Thanks for the update on the Hawks, from where I sit I would agree with pretty much everything you've said, just not a very good team this year, maybe the hoops squad will surprise.

I hope your faith is restored in the old man after Saturday.  I think SJU wins but they need to play better than they did on Saturday, so we shall see.  Have fun at the game all those who plan to attend.

Dutch--
UST played SJU 3 weeks ago and lost 27-7.  SJU scored on a kickoff return and interception but also twice fumbled inside the red zone.  UST defense was their strength.  I will be surprised if SJU doesn't double your season sack total after Saturday unless your offense rolls the pocket.  Best of luck to your squad.

No comment about the Hawks?  Not a U of I fan?

Even with the improved played at QB your line had better be able to handle the SJU pass rush or it may be a long day for your QB.  Not saying Central can't win, but based on what I saw, improved or not, I think SJU comes out on top.  Hope for decent weather and a good game with the best team that day coming out on top.

I need to ask, (sorry for mixing in some DI talk) but what has happened to the IU Hawkeyes.  They can't beat anyone lately, what gives?  I wouldn't be surprised if the Gophs beat them this Saturday who would've thought that one month ago.  I am a Hawkeye fan but this year has been brutal, any thoughts

Funny but I recall some SJU PP saying that it is important to be playing your best ball at playoff time, which if true, as most SJU posters claim to be all the time, this doesn't bode well for the Red and White.  Any thoughts from the SJU masses or have we changed our tune?  I know I have read some less hyped predictions from some but how 'bout you red white colored glasses wearing faithful?

As maybe one of just a handful of posters who saw both Central and SJU paly this year, I agree that it could be a very low scoring defensive game but I think SJU will have success through the air vs Central.  I also recall (since it was the first game of the year) that Central had a stud RB but I wouldn't put him in the Porta category.  He was big but I don't recall that he was all that tough to bring down ala Porta.  If, and this may be a big "if" based on this past weekend, SJU can stop the run I don't recall Central was all that good through the air.  Now I know things can change from the beginning of the year but Central only beat UST 17-7, and they didn't fumble away chances like SJU did.  My pick SJU by 10.
Tough game for the Tommies on Saturday, the 98 yard  int return changed the whole game, but give credit to the Olaf QB he made plays when he had too and since UST couldn't find a way to pressure him that made things all the easier.  Also no one on UST defense made a big play when they had too during the 4th qtr.
Tough way for my son to end his career, there were a few tears shed afterwards, but my parents (both in their 80's) were in town from Iowa and got to see their grandson play his final game which was pretty neat and they were proud of his play regardless of the outcome, as you would expect.  I am very proud of him and now he closes that chapter in his life and moves on.

Something I am sure those of you who played can relate to...............Nick was happy that Nwadiashi scored since he says he is one of the hardest workers on the team.  It was cool right after he scored and was on the sidelines my son went up to him and was helmut to helmut with him talking in his earhole.  After the game my son told me he told Nwadiashi how deserving he was of all the good things Wady had done and proud to be his teammate and that Nwadiashi got a bit emotional, a great moment to share with a fellow senior teammate.  Just too bad the game ended the way it did.
UST will continue to struggle as long as their offensive line play is so average and can't get the tough yards on the ground when they need to late in the game or protect the QB better.  I have seen it happen too many times over the past few years where they just needed to get a couple of first downs, run some clock, and/or get better field position, but they fail miserably and again it cost them a game they should have won.  Much better to be 7-3 rather than 6-4, just like being up 3 TDs rather than 1 is much better, oh well.

Best of luck to the Johnnies and the Royals this weekend.

Do you have a neighbor who is originally from New Prague and a UST alum?

ROR--
Thanks for the great pictures of my boy from the game Saturday.  I may have to purchase a few.  It would have been a great picure if he would have hit the kid (number 18 I think)who went up for the high pass and taken his legs out instead of just grabbing him.  Thanks again for your efforts, much appreciated.

Which of the posters is the Mt. Union fan?  I have a questions for him but not sure who to address it to.  Any help appreciated?

Thanks

Haven't asked my son about the disparity in student attendance at the SJU games, but his being a 5th year senior I think he has come to expect it, and it doesn't really affect the team much.  I would guess that if UST was a bit more competitive vs. SJU that you might see more students attending the game.  I think you also need to take into account the large number of day students that attend UST that aren't residing on-campus, just a thought.

SJU faithful--Thanks for the assessment of the UST team, The only thing I will say in defense of the offense is that with Thiesen hurt, they didn't have their "go-to" wide receiver but with the little time Sauer had it might not have mattered.  Offense is very bland and you would think they could come up with a little more variety.

Happy Halloween

Good point, I guess only the coaches know that answer but didn't make sense to me either.  That score at the end of the half hurt, almost as much as the int return coming out of the 2nd half.  Two quick scores and I thought here we go again, but the UST defense played pretty tough the rest of the second half, I thought

SJU faithful at the game--Curious to any "true" assessment of the UST squad, if you are interested in chiming in?  Nothing personal will be taken from your comments (assuming it is more than ....suck, which is so over) just seeking honesty from some other football minds.

SJU boys and girl,

Congrats on the win today.  SJU made all the big plays, and could have won by more if they could hold onto the ball.  Kofoed's thumb must still be bothering him based on his fumbles.  The week off should help him.  UST got the breaks I was referrring to with the fumbles deep in their own territory, the exception of the opening kickoff return but offense couldn't do much to help out the defense, which was my concern going into the game.  I haven't seen the SJU 3rd down conversion percentage but it must have been close to 70%.  It appeared pretty easy to convert.
I thought the UST defense played great run defense but did give up too much on the shuffle pass at key times, which is just a "long" handoff.
I wish UST could have converted after the fumble in the 4th to make the ending a bit more interesting, but it wasn't meant to be
Not sure why Roney was stopping the clock inside 2 minutes at the end of the game, he couldn't think that STU was going to come back, all he did was allow enough time for SJU to score one last TD.
Sorry I didn't make it by the pre-game festivities, but I am sure I wasn't missed.  Nice day to view a game and glad you all had a good time.
Proud of my son and it was fun to finally get to see him play extensively in the big game.
He felt that Weber did not catch that long pass in the 4th quarter, he never controlled it and them dropped it, but refs felt otherwise.
ROR-Thanks for stopping by at the end of the game, you are a class act.  Thanks for your efforts with the pictures of #25 in purple.  Will be anxious to see what you got and don't worry if they aren't your best, I just appreciate the effort

Best of luck to both teams on 11-11 for the game to decide the conference championship.  I hope UST can win the rest of their games and wind up in third in the conference, 6-2 and 7-3 overall with losses to Central, Bethel and SJU (nothing to be ashamed of losing to those quality teams)  St Olaf will be tough though.

Thanks boys, SJU does a nice job with their preview.

I should be able to stop and say hello prior to the game but I may not be able to stay too long since I am to meet some other UST alums before the game at their tailgate event.  Safe travel to all to and from the game manana.

finsleft-

Yeah they (UST) may have a solid team, but realistically they will need some breaks to go our way to win and get something more from the offense than 10-14 points when it matters.  A defensive score by UST would help our cause (an example of the sort of break we may need)

Anyone--any game previews available to read anywhere?  I didn't find one on the SJU website

ROR-Thanks it will be nice to have some action photos for the "scrapbook".

Finsledt-Those DII players help and seems like SJU has for years had a number of starters or contributors who come from DII schools.  Obviousy skilled and thay can excell at DIII

BUdefense-  I have stated that I honestly think UST has a chance so not sure what you mean when you say..................
Also, I think the UST supporters resort to these remarks because they know they have no chance on Saturday. Just a thought.

What remarks are you referring to?
