Just stopping by and saying hi to everyone. I know its been years since I last posted. Glad to see the regulars are still on.

Can anyone report on what's going on in Oshkosh after TVD left?

With his heart condition, will Schrimpf be able to play again after surgery?

Its not the first time I've heard about an Oshkosh athlete having heart problems, but that was found to be the case prior to the season, and not in the midst. I hope he comes through okay.

Just taking a look at the current tourney, I'm wondering if a 9-7 record or even 8-8 would be good enough to get the 4th seed.

Sorry cubs for being...a year behind.

Its puzzling that after having "Big 3" for several years, that Oshkosh is down to one star and a bunch of other players. Don't know if its lack of development...or recruiting but a program like Oshkosh shouldn't be struggling to make the WIAC tournament.

I know its been awhile since I've posted here, but just wanting to drop by and say hi to everyone.

I spent today catching up on UW-Oshkosh athletics this year. Too bad Oshkosh didn't have another consistent scorer along with Marsh, or they would be in better shape.

QuoteIs TVD recruiting on the Wolf or the Fox River this year?  There are some big catches on the Wisconsin if he gets over there soon.

;D I'm sorry, this made me laugh. Thanks T2K.

anyone doing the pick'em this year?

Could use some help, like...could Puget Sound really beat Point? I really wish we knew the sites, cause no way if its played in Point. Really a toss up to me.

For Platteville's sake, I hope the projections won't end up happening. That is a killer region.

And we alll know what happens when Superior plays Oshkosh when something important is on the line........

Ugh. Don't remind me. Seriously...how the #$%^ did we lose to Superior last year at home? Still boggles my mind.

So if both Oshkosh and Eau Claire both win, then they head to Kolf. That should work out better for Oshkosh, seeing as how they don't play particularly well at Zorn.

So as of right now, the first round would look like:

3 Platteville
6 River Falls

4 Eau Claire
5 Oshkosh

1 Point             bye
2 Whitewater   bye

Right?

I also liked the article about Marsh.

I will admit to this about TVD, he has had a hard time finding all of the pieces to the puzzle, and make a complete team in the past couple of years. To me, I always feel like the Head Coach is the face of the program and should find more then three players to carry a team/program. That's my biggest complaint, and in turn, has been Oshkosh's biggest downfall in the last five years.

But he is always willing to take a chance on players. Of course MJS did a great job telling Marsh's story, but unless you are from the Jefferson County area, not many knew about Kerry Gibson's story. Here is a 7-foot center who has a chance to go out and earn a scholarship playing basketball somewhere in the country, and then makes a mistake by getting caught for underage drinking. Jefferson hired coach Kyle Koski (father of Kevin, who plays for UW-Whitewater) who installed a zero-tolerance policy. If anyone got caught violating the WIAA rules, they would be kicked off the team.

Gibson was by far and away the face of that program and school. It seemed like he didn't have any options and everyone started to stay away from him. Except Van Dellan, and he took a chance. All he got in return was one of the most dominating defensive players, perhaps in this decade, for the program and shot blocker that the WIAC might not see for quite some time. Of course we all know that Gibson would make a mistake about how one country's beer isn't all that great, and get ridiculed for it. But when he was in Oshkosh, you never heard one bad thing about him.

TVD is a good coach, its just that this story line of Oshkosh having the talent to succeed and not doing so is getting quite old. By succeed, I mean by winning the WIAC, or the conference tourney. This program should have been in the NCAA tourney a couple of times in the past five years, but didn't get the job done.

Here's hoping that Oshkosh can find a way to the second round in the tourney. Who knows, maybe they will shock someone if they get caught looking ahead.

Gratz to UWW, UW-Plat, and UW-SP for getting a nod in the regional rankings.

Unfortunately we all know that sadly, one of those teams isn't going to make it...

Bucks,

It doesn't matter who Oshkosh brings if TVD can't get anything productive out of them. That's the point we are making; that perhaps TVD's style is not good enough to win the WIAC anymore.

Oh, and that point is hard to argue with. Capelle, Gibson, Marsh, Miller, DSA, and Jordan Johnson were the types of players you could win a conference championship with. Yet, a big fat 0.

Maybe they will catch fire in the conference tourney and...well, never mind. They couldn't beat Superior on their home court last year.

Ever since Oshkosh started 7-0 last season, they are 21-18 since.

Not very impressive, especially for a program that is used to winning double digit WIAC games a season.

Not that those attendence numbers are accurate, but in Oshkosh's Elite 8 year (2001-2002), they averaged 676 for conference games.

It steadily went up as the year went on.  Nearly 1200 for the Point game, but we know how well they travel.  Close to 1600 against Whitewater for what looks like the WIAC championship game and then 2177 against Ripon, well, they aren't far away.

Is there that many more things to do in Oshkosh than go see even really good basketball (at that time)...??

Well, the Golden Corral has really stepped it up at their buffet; the Oshkosh populace does have to eat.

That is one of the funniest things I have read on this forum in a LONG time. I wish I could give you +302 karma for that.

Thanks to all of those who responded to my question. I feel as if I have been caught up on this season, and I haven't even attended a game!

I want to comment on the whole revenue brought in because of higher enrollment, better facilities, etc.

It's not just UWO, its the entire city of Oshkosh. Not going to lie, it has seen WAY better days. A university can only go as far as the community supports it, and right now UWO is like an island inside Oshkosh. Oh, and it seems each week someone is laying off workers.

Pick up a Northwestern. You are noticing more and more burglaries on the North side of town. More drug and prostitution stings are being conducted, and the city really doesn't have a clear cut goal on how to fix anything. Oshkosh is in a rut.

So when you are a university that is stuck in the middle of all of these problems, its hard to focus what is on hand. Right now, I'm sure some student-athletes are more worried about how they are going to pay tuition this semester, then when to expect the screen on defense.

Not saying that anyone has it worse, or better. However, I will say schools like Point, Platteville, and Whitewater have the complete package between the University and Community backing.

But...let me make one Oshkosh reference. Because of the problems listed above, Coach Brian Schaefer lost his team captain and what he repeatedly said was his "heart and soul" of the Women's Volleyball team. All they ended up doing was making it to the Elite 8 for the first time in 12 years. Proving that the team itself could overcome adversity, and be successful.

To me, I honestly believe both TVD and Schumacher could be doing better jobs. Sometimes its up to the coach to find the potential in players that didn't think they had. It just seems to me that this program has all been about 2-3 star's and a bunch of role players.

What about an even team, in which anyone could be the star of the game? That should be the direction for the future for both the Men's and Women's squads. I know Schumacher is still trying to build, but TVD needs to adjust the way he does things, because the story line of how "Oshkosh has the talent but doesn't get the results" is getting old...quick.

Sorry for the long ramble. That's all I wanted to get off my chest. Back to real WIAC talk.
