NSRB also thinks we met in Utica on a cold rainy Saterday a couple years ago with OrangeHat. Pep was in the area to see some family NSRB thinks.
Dubbz.. "tough day to be a bomber?" Did I miss something?
ClimbingFisher... thanks for agreeing. Though we may be the only ones who see it, I agree. I still find it funny that you fellas look at this team as being better than last year. Maybe so... and the numbers might prove that.. but after seeing the force that was ST JOHN FISHER FOOTBALL come out in the 2nd half last year and completely destroy Bomber Nation I feel that the team last year played better than this year.
... I might need to seek some additional couch time on Post Patterns to talk it out.
Fisher05... lets agree.. to disagree =)
I haven't seen/read anything yet this season that points to SJF's 2007 squad being as good or better than the 2006 vintage (at least not yet). That's sort of a subjective call that you can make an argument for either way - especially with such a small number of actual games played to date and the fact that SJF has played teams with a combined 3-10 record. The IC win so far is really the only thing that stands out.
Personally, even with all the returning players they have back this season, Mark Robinson was such a great back that you can't lose him to graduation and not have some drop off. I know Reile has some good numbers, but MR was one of those special "all time great/HOF caliber" players you can't really "replace."
Ok, my reference to on paper looks this way (by the way, on paper refers to the preseason roster and coaches)-
2007 - 18 starters from a National Semi-Final Team (12-2) that did the best against Mt. Union in the first meeting of the season for the teams in 2007 (can't use Capital's second game, only fair). Three Pre-Season All-American choices. Coaching Staff intact from previous season. Lost two All-Americans, No injury issues known.
2006 - Not sure of the returning starters but guess maybe 14 from a Team that lost it's final season game and ECAC Northwest Bowl (8-3). Two Pre-season All-American choices. New Offensive coordinator??? Lost one All-American and one Honorable Mention All-American(remember Noah). Both QB and RB had injuries previous season and neither preformed to their previous level in the last two losses - concerns.
How can you say that on paper 2006 looked better then 2007. Even the Polls show the difference. (This is going to be bad as I had several email's to D3football last year arguing that they really underestimated SJFC in that Poll - these are some of the issues they used to justify the ranking)
Now as to the actual performance, too earlier to say for sure. However, this team will not feel vindicated unless it wins the East again. Last year, the goal was get into the NCAA.
All those using stat's should know better. Every team is going to put it's best effort forth against a 5th ranked team. Three of the four games have been away, on grass fields and the fourth was a circus (but for a great cause). This team is built for speed not grass. At this time last year, we had already been behind in two games and had to rally. Not so this year.
Yes, Robinson was one of a kind but then so was Noah. Look at last years receivers, were they like Noah, no but then were real good and more of them.
Leadership and a goto guy is what they are looking for but on this team there are so many options it is hard to pinpoint them. Kramer is doing a great job with a fanastic supporting cast and seems to be the center of the offense. Defense wise, Stepnick and company are doing what has been asked, bending and shutting teams down in the red zone.
Last year's team was a great team but this team can be better (my opinion it is better). Lots of football left.
Of course, we could just wait until the end of the season and not post but what fun would that be.

A fine point about recruiting, ER. I have heard from many folks that Fisher makes people feel wanted, while IC often go about things with a "take us or leave us" attitude.
Something needs to change.
I can attest to this 1st hand tecmo

JK agrees with MIOH that the new Wings over Ithaca are terrible. The only time Wings was good was JK's frosh year (04-05). Once they changed owners and changed how they made the wings, it was all over.
JK has not set foot in the new Rogans since they closed...I refuse untill they bring back the growlers of Yuengling...and Kings Subs
i know the guy that runs the new Rogans and talked to him last week, he is actuallly putting a small bar in at the end of the corner, it wont be long guys !!!!

The Ithacan has a quote that said Bam Bam is expected to start in the Fisher game. I wonder if those are his hopes, the team's hopes or both. Hope it works out!
Tecmo,
Time will tell, hes traveling this week so thats a good thing! Are you making it to the Hartwick game?
