I was afraid of that.  I watched T talking to her where she was sitting on the floor near the Stout bench after the half ended.  T was trying to reassure her, but I think they both knew the truth.

Wishing Lauren nothing but the best!

Some scores:

Superior gets 1st conf. win in a while, 59-45 over UWO.  Congrats!

Stout's Maslowski hits a game winning basket just before the buzzer and right after a UWP turnover, 86-84.  I watched a good chunk of the 2nd half on Stout's video feed.  When Hirssig got in foul trouble, Maslowski came up huge and was the go-to person for Stout.  Even though Hirssig was in foul trouble she totally dominated when she was in the game, finished with 30pts in what? 20min maybe??

Point over UWL by about 10.

UWW leads undefeated RF, 37-25 at the half.

Hirssig got in 23 minutes before the officials sent her to the bench.  It was a FT festival yesterday, with Platteville making 31 of 37 FT's and Stout hitting 20 0f 28.  Once again the inconsistency of what the officials were calling as fouls greatly affected the flow of the game.  They would call the weakest handchecks and then let flagrant fouls go against both teams.

Stacia Nemitz, younger sister of former Stout player Stephanie Nemitz, was the leading scorer and playmaker for the Pioneers.  Sure wish she would have followed her sister's lead and come to Stout!  She ended up with 21 points, 4 of 6 on 3 pointers and 7 of 7 from the charity stripe.

As buf mentioned, Hirssig led all players with 30 points and 8 rebounds.  She was  followed by Maslowski with 17 (13 in the second half).  Kayla Windt showed why Coach T recruited her with her excellent guard play - credited for a game high 7 steals, but her aggressive defense must have led to at least as many more forced turnovers.

After Hirssig fouled out with 1:22 remaining, Ashley Wolf made 1 of 2 FT's to tie the game.  The teams then traded points of a pair of FT's by Nemitz to take a 2 point lead and then Windt to tie the game up with 37 seconds to go.

Platteville took their time trying to burn most of the clock before shooting what they hoped would by the game winner, but Wolf's shot didn't go and Danielle DeWitt got the rebound with 12 seconds left.  Then a pair of turnovers, 1 by each team, in the next 7 seconds of play gave Stout the ball with 5 seconds left and Maz hit the game winner with .3 seconds on the clock!

UWW does down URF by a final score of 76 - 62.

Man, that can put a crimp in a player's game. There should be a club for multiple knee injury/ACL people.

WHITEWATER...76
River Falls...62

The WARHAWKS came out with intensity, scored first on a three-pointer by Heidi Sonntag, and never surrendered the lead for the rest of the game.  A pair of Chantel Burg free throws with 7 minutes remaining in the half gave the WARHAWKS their first double digit lead, 26-16, and River Falls never got any closer the rest of the game.   The lead was twelve at the half 37-25 and grew to as many as eighteen points in the second half.  River Falls would make a run to cut it to eleven a few times but the WARHAWKS would make another run and keep them from getting any closer.

Kelsey Hendrickson had a double-double 18 points/10 rebounds.  Burg also had 18 points and Sonntag finished with 17 points.  The two teams combined to shoot 68 free throws (WW-30-40, RF-22-28).  Hendrickson finished with 3 steals to increase her conference leading total to 63.  Led by Megan Theune's 3 assists the WARHAWKS finished with 13 assists on 21 made shots.

Superior wins their first WIAC game in 30 tries!  They played a solid 40 minutes.  At one point halfway through the 2nd half they were up 20 points.  I did see that UWO had a bunch of players in street-clothes and I believe they were all freshmen.  Two were actually contributing players, Kitzke and Wenig.  UWO could've used them because they missed all 15 three-point attempts.  The players didn't appear to be hurt, anyone know what's going on down at UWO?

Lots of excitement in the WIAC this weekend.  Congrats to Superior on getting that first conference win and hopefully a bit of confidence.  The buzzer beater for ST was crazy!  My personal favorite moment was on the YouTube clip with Hirssig jumping off the bench with such intensity as that shot trickled in - it's fun watching that kind of passion :)

Caught the game in SP - was a dawg fight but the Pointers got the W.  I would really challenge anyone to find a player with better work ethic, hustle and love for the game than #4 Andrea Flease.  She is so fun to watch, never takes a play off and a very intricate part of the Pointer program.

Saw that in the box score as well. Five freshman not playing. They can't all be injured, so my guess has to be disciplinary reasons. Usually that kind of stuff happens on a trip over break, but they played in the Point game. Will have to see if they are back for the WW game Wednesday. Either way, 0-15 behind the arc isn't going to help under any circumstances.
We started that WRST Sports sh**.

I know MULTIPLE people who would qualify, sadly. They should have a support group for parents, too.

Bears rule

I got to see the WW RF game last Saturday. Looks like WW is becoming the class of the WIAC. No surprise here.

As for RF, I can see how they SP, EC, Stout and I think they beat a ranked team over Christmas. However, on this day we took everything away from them.

Congrats to Superior.

As for the heart and sole of teams, I think Flease and Hendrickson are great choices.  I think al great teams are led by great leaders and these two are some of the best. However, I am sure the other teams have some great players too.

What are some of the other players?  I think Hirssig, Nemitz and Mesick.
Who are some of the others?

phoenix_rising

Superior has a freshman, Connie Urmanski, who is playing far above her class (academic). She shows nice poise and doesn't seem to get too rattled; I think she's going to do nice things up here. As a matter of fact, Superior is playing a pretty young line-up. I'm very hopeful that they stick around and continue to work at improving the team. Especially the sticking around part.

Bears rule

I forgot to add the RF WW game comments.

RF does not stop working. It seemed like the whole game they were a few plays away from making this an upset. They are just so young. I think there top minutes were freshmen and Sophomores this game.

House was tough inside and they have a another tough post Dohrn. She is strong. There wings and guards are quick and work hard.

WW is just a better team, as I have said all year, they got great guards and big strong post.

Now sometimes they forget to play hard and look bad, but that happens.
