Well, I'm sure everyone figured out that T got #400 tonite.... ;D

Stout started strong and never trailed in the game.

Great performances from Hirssig, DeWitt, Stokke, Maslowski,  and Van Vreede - all in double digit scoring.

Julia got her double/double - 27 points and 12 boards

Danielle hit for 20, Kim 12 and both Megan and Tricia had 10.

Stout hit 31 of 60 from the floor, including 7 of 15 from 3 point land and 21 of 27 from the charity line.

Point struggled with 27 of 65 from the floor, only 3 of 9 from beyond the arc and 19 of 25 on FT's.

Rebounds were a big part of the story - with Stout capturing 46 to only 26 for the Pointers.

Josi Schultz led the Point scoring with 22 points, followed by Flease with 16, Petersen 15 and Bandow with 10.

Next up, UWO on Saturday!

Congrats to coach T!

EC gets handled by RF by 20 or so points.  T. Gregorich was on fire.  EC played poorly on both ends.

Also, another note on recruiting. SP has 2 commitments at this point from 2 girls that were d2/d3 tweener types that are both pretty solid players. Jenna Pitt of Amherst and Christie Struck of Weyauwega-Fremont. Pitt tore her ACL and that is a likely reason why she ended up picking SP over going D2.
Both quality D3 kids; not D2 kids. Struck will do well in the WIAC. Pitt? We'll see. She was going to be a D3 kid before the injury; she is way too limited to play at a competitive D2. Hopefully she is able to rehab strong and be ready to go for them next year. They are putting together a good class.

La Crosse leads most of the way with WW tonight; up 10 with about 8 or 9 minutes left; then WW takes control of the final 8 minutes and wins late. I think it was still a 6 point game with under five minutes to go. La Crosse has had some major scoring lapses at times this year in big games. This one would have been huge for them. Good game to watch though. With Osh and Sup coming up they should get to 8 conference wins. Then RF and Point to finish. Looks like we've now got our 6 tournament teams set. Just a matter of seeding

UWRF

It was a good ol' fashion beat down at Zorn tonight.  83-61 RF win.

Tiffany Gregorich dominated in the game with 30 points... including 20 first half points.

River Falls turned up the intensity on both ends of the floor and ran Eau Claire out of the building.  That is a team I havent seen in about a month.

Big game this weekend with the Warhawks.

I know what you mean, but when I say that I'm referring to the fact that they could play at the low d2 level. Pitt played AAU for fastbreak on a team that's chalked full of scholarship kids, a lot of times that alone can help a player get a scholarship. As for struck, her athleticism doesn't jump out at you if you're a scholarship school, but you have to be partial to kids that can score and make plays like her. Regardless, those are 2 good players committed to SP.

Was optimistic about EC a few days ago when I noted they might go 10-6. After watching the loss to RF, EC has a long way to go. Some good news is that Pippa Mansdorf played 9-10 minutes at the guard position and did well. Laura Olson hit foul trouble early (for a while) and when Pippa was put in EC easily handled the RF press. Good to see a real guard in there. RF played extremely  well and looked very good. As I thought, Stout did take out SP. I still think Stout has great talent. Per previous posts, you need to let these kids play not keep yanking them out. If Stout keeps focused - they could make a heck of a run. Keeping focus to me means not be destracted by coach antics - I beleive DeWiit had 20 points last night. I still see Whitewater going 10-3. There is fire in their seniors and they have the most experience of all WIAC teams.

I wasn't at the game last night, but I listened to the whole thing and "watched" it through wonderful wordsmithing of our own illustrious "Stoutguy"... ;D

I expect you to buy me a beer after the Alumni game for that shameless plug, SG...

I don't think T's approach to coaching was markedly different last night then what you have watched him do in the past.  They aren't "antics" they are solid coaching techniques.

You don't like the way he talks to the bench during the game.  What he's doing is coaching those players that he can actually talk to what just happened - immediately after those players have seen the results of the play.

You seem to focus on when he's pointing out a bad decision on the floor.  You also need to pay attention when he points out a good decision.

Trying any type of real communication to players on the floor while the ball is in play is extremely difficult.  It distracts the players unless you can convey what you want with a quick word or hand signal.  Distractions to players on the floor is not a good thing.

And yes, Danielle had a great game last night scoring 20.  Her 4 of 7 shooting on 3 pointers really aided Stouts scoring efforts.  She did get in foul trouble again - 2 in the first half and 2 in the second half, with the 4th foul coming with 8:09 left in the game.  T sat her for about 3 minutes after that 4th foul, then put her back in for the rest of the game.

Evidently, whatever he communicated to her during those 3 minutes was effective.  DD drained another 3 pointer, had 2 assists to Hirssig, had 2 rebounds and drew a foul by Josi Schultz.

12 minutes in the first half.  12 minutes in the second half.  9 and 11 points respectively.

Talked to T as the bus was heading by Wausau last night.  He had nothing but good things to say about what his players had accomplished last night.  He gave full credit to his players and took no credit himself.

Looking forward to seeing many of his former players back on the floor at Johnson Fieldhouse Saturday morning for the alumni game.

Hoping one of my personal favorites (T40 from Hayfield, MN, played her last year in '04, Stoutguy) can make it up from Texas (last year she came in from Colorado).  I need my annual "hug"... ;D

Tough loss for UWL last night.  A win last night could have propelled them to a very strong finish.  As I have said before this team will lose a tough game and then come back and win one they aren't supposed to.  (this could be said about a lot of WIAC teams including Stout last night)

One promising thing from last night is that the scoring seems to be coming from different places.  Latrenta went for 18 pts which was a career high.  Frank asserted herself more offensively going for 17 pts, 15 boards, and 4 blocks.  Now if they can get the scoring to be more consistent with all the starters they will be in good shape.

2 road wins at superior and oshkosh would be great for  this team assuring that they finish .500 or above w/ a chance to pull an upset in the tourney.  That would not be a bad season at all with this team losing no players going into next year.

No offense intended and eveyone is entitled to their own opinion but this whole discussion about Coach Thomas's coaching style etc. is silly.  His record and his relationship with his players, past and present, speaks for itself.   The fact is that's he's built a strong, successfull program at Stout.  He's recruited good players year in and year out.  Those players have options in regards to where they want to play and they wouldn't be chosing Stout if his reputation was such that it had a negative impact on them.   He subs a lot because his style of play requires it to keep players fresh.  He calls a player out when they need to be and he praises them when it's appropriate.  These aren't children any more.  They're young adults and it's a hard world out there.  Sometimes you get criticized and you better learn how to live with it and how to use it make yourself a better player and person.

The WARHAWKS shot 25% and were out rebounded 30-16 yet only trailed by eight points, 32-24, at the end of the first half last night.  They rallied to pull within two points, 34-32, to start the second half but LaCrosse made another run to increase their lead to double figures.  WHITEWATER rallied again and took their first lead of the half by a single point, 59-58, with four minutes remaining.  The WARHAWK lead grew to five points, 63-58, with about a minute and half to play before LaCrosse responded and pulled within a point 63-62.  Nicole Bundy drained a jumper to make it 65-62 and stole LaCrosse's inbound pass.  Kelsey Hendrickson was fouled and sank both free throws to put the WARHAWKS up 67-62.  LaCrosse scored on a layup but was forced to foul Bundy who made both free throws to create the final 69-64.

Bundy led the WARHAWK scorers with 16 points and recorded 3 steals.  Hendrickson finished with 13 points and added 3 steals to her league leading total.  Sonntag added 12 points and had a team leading 5 assists.

Game changers:
1. After a miserable first half shooting percentage of 25 the WARHAWKS shot 53% in the second half.  LaCrosse went in the opposite direction shooting 44% in the first half and 38% after that.
2.  WHITEWATER was 14-18 from the free throw line.  LaCrosse was 6-8.
3.  WHITEWATER took better care of the ball with only 9 turnovers to 18 for LaCrosse and had 11 steals to just 2 for the Eagles.  So despite having the advantage on the boards 47-37 and a 19-14 advantage on the offensive end LaCrosse actually took fewer shots than the WARHAWKS.

1 correction to the above...

00:22 UWL GOOD! LAYUP by Litrenta, Lindsey UWW 67 - UWL 64 (UWW by 3)
00:19 UWL FOUL by Litrenta, Lindsey
00:19 UWW MISSED FT SHOT by Sonntag, Heidi
    REBOUND (DEF) by (TEAM)
00:07 UWL MISSED 3 PTR by Larson, Taylor
    REBOUND (DEF) by Bundy, Nicole

Sonntag missed a free throw and Lax had a chance to tie the game.  Larson missed a 3 pointer as she ended the night 1 for 7 from 3.

You definitely hit the key points though.  Very agressive defense by the warhawks generating some steals lead to some easy buckets.

badgerwarhawk

I see, I missed the three-point attempt by LaCrosse which could have tied the game.  Bundy was fouled with 4 seconds remaining and made both free throws following the missed three-point attempt.
My bad.
