I think it's a little excessive to expect everyone to travel to Huntingdon, LaGrange, Christopher Newport or Maryville.

VEGAS!!!!!!

Sorry - bad day at work and needed some self humor!

Yeah, but the team loss their star quarterback and some key running backs. I don't know how much its going to hurt them, but looking at the history between you guys, you never know, there have been come close games the last 5 years and some not so much. However, looking at the old schedules, it appears that this game may end up being like 09 and you guys winning. Looking forward to viewing the game, is it going to be streamed?

CNU85

Not sure about the stream, it is at Salisbury and I'm not sure what they do. I will not be going. I have this bad karma thing going with road games.....other teams tend to score 50 points when i go to the road games. (Salisbury, UMHB). And I was at Wesley one game - 34-0 I think it was.

True comments about CNU playing Salisbury tough at times. Like the NCAA game in 2004.

But this is the first game of the year....who knows what will happen?

I will stay home that day!

Pat Coleman

It seems as if the option-heavy teams take a little longer to reload when changing quarterbacks. There's so much precision required in that offense that sometimes it takes a while for a new guy to get completely up to speed.

Well, let's hope that when you say "takes a little longer", that you don't mean by halftime!! ;D

Pat,
We can we expect to see an actual preseason All-America team?  It's getting a little old reading preseason All-of-America teams.

The conference media guide for this season is now on the  USAC website. First thing I noticed was on the composite scores from last year...says the maryville/huntingdon game (won by HC in the final half minute) has been "later vacated" by HC. Does anyone know when, how, or why this happened??? I hadn't heard anything about it.

Pasted from source:
Maryville-33 Huntingdon-49* LaGrange-14 Birmingham Southern-41 Salisbury-40 Christopher Newport-16 Greensboro-14 Guilford-13
*-win later vacated by Huntingdon

I have no clue what that means. Never heard anything about that and can't imagine what the reason would be.

I'm very excited about the upcoming season and expect a much improved LaGrange squad.  Injuries caught up with us at the end of the season, but I'm expecting a big bounce back in 2013.

Just some observations I had from last year since I've been around watch this conference with my son playing at Maryville in the mid-2000's and hopefully the coaches can address some issues during their conference meetings.

My question is - How can the USA-South conference get better at the national level??  To be completely honest, our conference was not a very good one in 2012.  It may have been one of the worst in D-III last season.

Some points to recap from last year are:
*3-way tie for the conference championship.  Ferrum lost to Maryville in the last game of the season which Maryville had not beaten a team with a winning record all season.
*CNU tanks it in the last game against Methodist at home preventing CNU to win the conference outright and causing a 3-way tie.
*Our conference champ, CNU, gets blasted by Mt. Union by 60 in the 1st round of the playoffs.
*I believe our conference lost almost every game against ODAC schools last season.
*My team, LaGrange, who had 3 wins last season, goes on the road 2 weeks in a row to beat 2 of our co-champs CNU and Maryville.
*Averett & NC Wesleyan has fallen off in a big way from previous years.
*The only teams that played to their squads abilities all season was Methodist and Greensboro.
*NC Wesleyan coach leaves and their AD hires a coach who just completed a 0-10 season at Marietta.
*Finally, I can recall only 1 time since the conference began, that our conference champ won a 1st round game in the NCAA payoffs.

I'm just bringing these points up and hopefully our coaches can look at the current status of our conference at a national level.  How can we get better compared to the northern schools??

Also, can someone bring up why Maryville has changed their stadium's attendance capacity.  When my first son played at MC, the attendance capacity was 3,500 according to the 2006 media guide.  This year when we played at Maryville and their website claims their stadium's capacity is now 5,500.  Attending the game last fall, Honaker Field has made no changes since my son played.  They claim the stadium was to capacity during, but 1/2 of the visitor section which I sat in was empty.

I'm noting this because Maryville is ranked in the top 10 in attendance by the NCAA.  But CNU and our stadium at LaGrange is listed around 5,000 and there is now way MC's stadium is a bigger facility.

Maybe their SID likes to pad their attendance stats.  Is this a common practice by SID's...

Just wondering.

I would think surely to goodness we have heard something about it when it happened and why; maybe it's a mix up. Who knows. Really doesn't change anything in my opinion. It's going to be another great match up in Alabama again this year. Can't wait to make the trip.

Panther Guy:
Can't really say why it changed. Might have something to do with the people that stand outside of the fence, but I don't think that should be counted in the official attendance although it does add to the atmosphere.
I have a good idea of who your son is...tell him the boys in Maryville wish him the best. (He was a senior my freshman year)

I was told that it will be addressed publicly soon. I assume that means at media day but could be wrong.
