What's with the whales in the endzone??
As I understand it, the first week of class during the fraternity rush week one of the officers of one of the fraternities got into some kind of trouble and was put on probation or something. His name is William so at the first home game they had a couple of whales and were saying "Free Willie." As the season has gone on they bought up every whale that they can find until they have the twenty-something that you saw today.

I crawled out my pity hole and found my way to a local supplier of liquid intoxicants. Hopefully I'll forget about this loss in a few minutes and find a tall blonde to dance with. That might help me feel better.

Watched the end of this game in the press box at Wesley and have to say I loved the Orca celebration at the end of the game. Classic!

abnrgr - it is certainly bitter-sweet...on one hand, 8-2 is really nice, on the other hand it is disappointing that this team doesn't have another game - i'm not sure there are many teams that can stop the mu offense with the way they are playing right now - of course, i'm not sure the mu defense can stop anyone either :)

the value of a good back up qb and a strong running game was shown today...reber went out around 5 mintes into the second quarter after going 7-10 for 127 and a td to go with 7 rushes for 38 yards - vann came on and the offense looked stagnant for a few series...then the second half came around, and vann finished 21-30 for 295 and 4 td's while darius page went nuts, running for 157 yards and catching passes for another 111 - marquies hall had a nice day running it, as well, with 16 carries for 75 yards and 3 td's - all told, the monarchs ran 101 plays for 673 yards...and they needed every one - i was afraid this  might be a "trap" game for mu - ncwc had a week off to prepare for mu, and they came to play today - alston is a stud, and the bishop starting qb is a nice player (of course, everyone looks good against the mu defense) - the bishops are young and talented...much better than their record indicates

lastly, hats off to all of the seniors - i'm glad those guys got to end their career with a win - vaughn cross caught 6 balls for 89 yards and 3 td's and blake scott scored the game winner on a catch and run that showed the kind of effort he has put in for the last 4 years - cross finishes as the first mu receiver with over 1000 yards and hauled in 18 td's on the season

it was a great year...still, i wish there was at least one more game left to play

scots...go get the conference a playoff win!

what a great first round match-up for m'ville...the usasac has a great chance to get a win with this pairing...of course, i'm sure the odac reps feel the same way :)

go get 'em, scots...

Narch...congrats to your boys on a great season. And it sounds like you will stay loaded for next year!

Scots13 - Go get 'em! HSC can be beat! Are you going to the game? I would except we have family in town for an early Thanksgiving!

Scots13

I'm still a little shocked at the pairing. I always wanted to play against HSC because they were the hometown team. Oh well, I'll tailgate instead.

Definitely going to the game. My parents were planning to come down here for Thanksgiving (tons of family in the area), but now I can go to the game and see my grandmother in VA and not have to hear about it for a year. It's a win-win, but I'd like it to be a win-win-win.  ;)

Congrats for LaGrange winning the last 2 games of the season to finish up 5-5 and a 5-3 conference record.  Played outstanding against Averett and loved the big hit of the week.  Lots of experience coming back next year.

Many parents and fans appreciate the players chanting out "Mooney's" name after the win.  This was STILL his team.  I should always be proud what he accomplished at LaGrange and many hope the AD and Prez (names I won't even mention) days are numbered......

Scots13

After a somewhat rocky start to the season, I glad to see some pretty good finally records for the conference this year.
MC 8-2
MU 8-2
CNU 8-2
HC 7-3
and LaGrange was just off by a small margin to have an over .500 year.

We as a conference need to do better OOC before we duke it out during conference play..that shouldn't have to be said.  However with it being said, and many of our teams playing ODAC teams, next year's OOC record starts this weekend at H-SC.

with regard to the odac/usasac match-ups, while the odac went 9-4 vs. the usasac in the regular season, it should be pointed out that when the top half of the odac squared off against the top half of the usasac, the results were a bit different:

hsc went 0-1 vs. top half usasac teams (cnu)
rmc went 0-0 vs. top half usasac teams
guilford went 0-1 vs. top half usasac teams (mu)
shenandoah (tied for 4th in the odac, but wins the tie-breaker by virtue of the victory over hsc) went 0-1 vs. top half usasac teams (cnu)

so teams in the top half of the odac were 0-3 vs. teams in the top half of the usasac and just 4-3 vs. the usasac overall (hsc 1-1, rmc 1-0, gc 1-2, su 1-1)...the top half of the usasac was 3-2 vs. the odac (m'ville 0-1, mu 1-1, cnu 2-0)

the odac made hay because ehc went 3-0 vs. the usasac (still amazed ehc didn't fare better in the odac...that team looked REALLY good against mu) and the odac teams beat up on averett (1-2 vs. odac), ferrum (0-3 vs. odac) and greensboro (0-2 vs. odac) - 7 of the 9 odac wins came against usasac teams that had a combined overall winning % of .167 (5-25) and a combined conference winning % of .143 (3-18...with all wins coming against other bottom half teams) while 3 of the 4 usasac wins came against teams in the top half of the odac who had a combined winning % of .625 (25-15)...the fourth usasac win came from a team that went 0-7 in the conference, but went 1-2 vs. the top half of the odac

if you wanted to say the odac was deeper than the usasac this year, you would be right...if you wanted to extrapolate that to mean the odac was better, as a whole, than the usasac this year, i won't argue, but i think there is empirical evidence that the top half of the usasac was better than the top half of the odac during the regular season (with an admittedly small sample size) - let's hope that trend continues in the post season!

Finally got my hands on today's paper and a good portion of the article talks about the USAC and ODAC playing one another and the fact that MC was an ODAC team in the 80s.  In a first round match up were the teams have 3 common opponents, it's not going to be hard to scout one another. As Coach Rader said, "Everyone is kind of familiar with everyone."

Another quote in the Daily Times of Coach Rader:
"What I do know about Hampden-Sydney is it's a very well coached team. The head coach up there, Marty Favret, does a great job with an historic program.  We are excited about the opportunity to play them."

Just do me a favor this week during your bedtime prayers...
Slip in "On Highlanders, down the field." at the end.

DG, if you want to recite the whole fight song, I'll be more than happy to oblige and post it.  ;D
