The WARHAWKS had their offense in full gear and won a pair of games defeating Berea College (80-61) and Manchester University (90-42) in Manchester's Main View Tip Off Tournament.   Against Berea the score was tied 20-20 after the first quarter before the WARHAWKS built it to eleven 43-32 at the half and thirty one 68-47 three quarters of the way.  Brooke Tweyn's 21 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds led the WARHAWKS.  Lisa Palmer added a dozen points and Jaya Perkins and Andrea Meinert chipped in 10 points each .  Seven WARHAWKS scored at least eight points.   Defensively the WARHAWKS forced 21 turnovers leading to a 23-7 scoring advantage.  Against Manchester the WARHAWKS led by just three, 17-14, at the quarter and just nine, 30-21, at the end of a low scoring first half.   Things changed quickly in the third quarter as the WARHAWKS turned the pressure up a notch and ran away to a 62-29 advantage.  Perkins finished with a game high 18 points.  Abbie Reeves sank four from beyond the arc adding 14 points and both Maddie Bare (12 points) and Olivia Freckmann (10 points) each finished in double figures.  Fleckmann added a game high 7 rebounds (shared w/Emily Jensen) and Malia Smith's 7 assists were also a game high.  Offensively the team finished 50.7% from the floor including 45.5% ( 10-22) from beyond the arc.  Defensively Manchester was held to 23.3% from the floor.

Voice of the Titans

Nice win by the Titans last night, especially the low turnover numbers. Continue to be impressed with Isabella Samuels in the post. Quite the find for UWO. 50 pushups for me after the game after getting a foul announced incorrectly. And I will will officially start the hash tag #NoFischTies for Coach fischer and his decision not to wear ties this season. Working so far. I expect a pretty darn good game Saturday against Norby.

Since when is a 1st Team All FRCC selection considered a "find?"  (Unless I am misunderstanding what you meant...)

When I think of "finds," I think of guys like Jim Leonhard, Mark Tauscher, Joe Stellmacher, etc.. who went from being a walk-on to playing prominent roles.

Like I said, maybe I am misunderstanding the context of what you meant....

The WARHAWKS traveled to San Juan PR and beat 15th ranked University of New England in a low scoring game 55-47.  (Details to follow if and when available).  They'll wrap up the trip today with a morning game against Hartwick College.

Despite shooting just 32% from the floor the WARHAWKS trailed by only a single point 25-24 at the half.  The half was closely contested throughout with neither team holding a lead greater than six points at any time.  Andrea Meinert led the WARHAWKS with six points while Abbie Reeves and Brooke Trewyn each added five points.  New England built a six point lead midway through the third quarter but the WARHAWKS gradually cut into it and when Malia Smith sank a pair of free throws to end the quarter they led 39-37.  Leading by two 49-47 with a little over a minute the WARHAWKS went 6 for 6 from the free throw line to seal the victory.

Malia Smith: 12 points
Abbie Reeves, Andrea Meinert: 9 points each
Reilly Stewart: 4 points, 3 assists

Free throws played a significant role.  WW: 18-27  New England: 9-12

Hartwick College: 40
WARHAWKS: 52

Trailing by five, 9-4, after the first five minutes four points from Brooke Trewyn tied the game and the WARHAWKS took the lead when Abbie Reeves hit three jumpers to close out the quarter with an 11-0 run and 15-9 lead.  The lead reached double figures briefly but afterward was never less than seven points before the half ended with the WARHAWKS holding a 28-19 lead.  The WARHAWKS shot 60% from the floor and out rebounded HC 15-4.  Reeves led all scorers with 8 points and she was supported by 6 points from Trewyn and 5 from both Andrea Meinert and Jaya Perkins.  Hartwick would get to within five points on a couple of occasions in the third quarter and to within four points early in the final stanza but each time they made a move the WARHAWKS were able to make runs that eventually built the lead back into double figures for most of the last seven minutes of the game.

The WARHAWKS finished the game 54% from the floor and out rebounding HC 32-10 including 10-2 on the offensive end which led to an 11-1 scoring edge on second chance points.

Abbie Reeves: 12 points
Andrea Meinert: 9 points, 4 rebounds
Brooke Trewyn: 8 points, 5 assists
Malia Smith: 6 steals
Olivia Freckmann: 6 points, 6 rebounds

See that Wartburg beat Oshkosh by over 10 points. I think this indicates that the WIAC is going to be very exciting with this year's winner maybe having 3-4 losses in conference alone. RF, WW, SP, OSH and EC all have pretty good teams. SP and EC have played pretty heavy schedules so far as compared to RF and OSH. I thnk we will see WW as champs. SP  in second w OSH RF and EC somewhere in 3rd to 5th. I expect EC will only get better. Their record does not reflect how good they can be. So hang on the WIAC should be very competative and exciting. SP and WW are really back to where they were a few years ago.

JMM

Will get a good feel for OSH tomorrow when they play the Tommies. SP should of beat St Thomas and lost by 3 points in the end.

Looks like SP s on their way up in the national rankings and OSH on their way down. WW has a pretty good test against Luther tomorrow. I think they will pass it.Luther s very good and could pose problems to WW. Think it will be an exciting year in the WIAC. Look for OSH to drop maybe to 18 nationally and SP to maybe be ahead of OSH. OSH will have another tough battle against RF (9-1) for their first WIAC game. SP should not look past EC next week, they are pretty good.  Though it is rare when EC wins at SP. Also look for Wartburg to move up into the top 15 with only one loss very early in the season. They are a very good team.

WARHAWKS: 61
Edgewood: 42

This game was over nearly as quickly as it started.  The WARHAWKS held the Eagles to 17% shooting and just 10 points in the first half while putting 31 on the board themselves.  The WARHAWKS didn't shoot that well (36%) but had a 24-13 advantage on the boards including 14-4 on the offensive end and forced 15 Edgewood turnovers which led to 14-2 and 16-2 scoring advantages respectively. Andrea Meinert's 8 points paced the team.   Malia Smith added 6 points, 3 assists and 2 steals.   The WARHAWKS lead reached a high of 32 points 52-20 with just over three minutes and never was less than twenty until the last minute and half of the game.  The WARHAWKS used all twenty one players dressed and thirteen scored points. No one played more than 15 minutes.  The WARHAWKS only shot 35% from the floor but, thanks to a 46-26 rebounding advantage and forcing 22 turnovers, took 68 shots to just 38 by the Eagles.  Abbie Reeves led the WARHAWKS with 16 points.  Malia Smith added 8 points and finished with game high assists (5) and steals (3).

Rachel Pope scored a game high 17 points to lead Edgewood.

Luther is the opponent tomorrow for an 11am tip off.  I'm told and JMM concurs that they are a pretty decent team.  I'm not crazy about the tip off time.

It was my first time in JustAGame Fieldhouse.  It's an interesting place.  Between the Pepsi bleachers, the countless advertising banners and the seemingly endless number of basketball and volleyball games they do we thought they must be doing pretty well.  I remember reading somewhere that they've been talking about putting baseball and softball diamonds in.  There is already the facility at Woodside Ranch which only 20-25 miles from the Dells.  I'd love to own the bar/restrauant across the street.  I have to think they probably do well also.

WW hangs tough to beat Luther in two OT. Pretty clutch play.
