Your votes?

Here's some bad news for Johnnie fans and other MIAC schools, but feel obligated to post it for information sakes:

Tommie recruit wins MVP in Illinois football all-star game  >:(

http://www.pantagraph.com/eedition/page-b/page_24ebceac-a811-5bc6-901d-c006ef998871.html

Rushed for 114 yards on 9 carries, and returned a punt for a TD.

What many fans fail to realize is that many of the top prospects in the state choose not to participate in these "All-Star" Games which leaves many kids that were slightly better than average to good making up the majority of these rosters. It says something that a D3 recruit was the best player in the game. You may also notice that this kid plays in the middle of nowhere and against lesser competition.

Well, I do realize that many top prospects don't participate, thought people might be interested in the story and make their own judgment.  Not sure if you're from Illinois Greggers, but Marian Catholic is a pretty solid program historically, have won the state championship more than once.  They made the state playoffs last year.

"Marion Central" not Marion Catholic...common mistake both great catholic football programs!  I played against them when I was in highschool ;D

Bethel posted its incoming class here: http://athletics.bethel.edu/news/2016/6/27/bethel-football-announces-2016-recruiting-class.aspx

There's a couple of big fellas at O-line - some of you guys follow the high school scene a bit closer than I, but I didn't see any names that were making headlines last fall in the local papers (that I read).

What's this?  No Viking raiders at BU anymore?  These guys don't look like they could rape and pillage a retirement village, unlike the Royals of last year.

Matt Lemay, Joel Koenecke, and Jake Marsh are pretty good athletes. According to Northstar football, Lemay was one of the top LB's for the class of 2016. Koenecke was the MVP of his district and most valuable running back. And Marsh was an All-District QB in the Lake Conference. Looks like a solid class.

I think I'm 2/3 right Tommie, not to prolong this discussion.  It's MariAn, and Central Catholic, so we both got one there.  From their website:

Based on the 84 upperclassmen and 35 incoming, Bethel will have a roster around 120 or so. Is that consistent with prior seasons for Coach Johnson? Quite a bit bigger than most, but a little lighter than UST or SJU.

Will be interesting to see how metro recruiting evolves in the MIAC the next few years. I think last year was a bit of a changing of the guard in terms of a transition from total Eden Prairie and Lake Conference domination to success coming from suburbs throughout the metro that have seen increases in population and socio-economic growth. Prior Lake, Osseo, Maple Grove, East Ridge, Chan & Chaska I think will all be in the mix for the next decade. The Lake wont drop off the map but it will be quite a bit more competitive. Thats a lot of programs to build relationships with for MIAC coaches. Not that talent cant be found a number of other places in the metro, outstate, and midwest, but the bread and butter programs might be growing in numbers.

Based on a quick scan of last year's roster, it looks like the author just assumed that everyone on the roster last year that didn't graduate would be back, which doesn't account for the major attrition rate from Freshman to sophomore.  They're usually closer to 100 give or take a few, I think.

My son is going to St. Thomas this fall. Does anyone know how many JV games they usually play? Someone told me 3 but that doesn't sound like enough to develop young talent. Jim

Three or four sounds about right.  My son is a freshman at Gustavus and they have four JV games scheduled.  First year they'll be spending more time in the weight room than the travel squad which is a good thing because many haven't had great S&C instruction in HS and almost all really need to develop their man muscles.

Yeah, years past I think their ideal goal was in the 100 - 110 range at the start of camp. There's typically not much post-camp or in-season attrition at Bethel. If they start with 110 in August, they're usually sitting around 105+ in Sept/Oct.
