I used to think it was a joke that Augsburg was a junior college.  http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-wrestl/spec-rel/052417aaa.html

I'm actually surprised that doesn't happen more often to Aug.  They could be a great farm system for the U.

A concert is a frickin' disgrace. Pure evil. Had to be said. We're not all robots here.
Knowing the primary audience is teen & pre-teen girls is particularly cowardly

In a totally twisted, bizarre sort of way, it makes sense for ISIS.  Those are the future breeders of infidels. ::) :o

And for ISIS, the term 'breeders' was deliberately chosen.  They are The Handmaid's Tale squared.

One of the worst tasting beers I ever had when I was at SJU.  I hope they don't use the recipe from the mid-90's.

Unfortunately that was rumored for a while and even though I did not want to believe it; here we are and Owen Webster is transferring to the Gophers.  Had fun watching him wrestle @184 last year so I guess it's better to have him an Auggie for one year than not at all.  He is very good, the Gopher wrestling fans are already counting on him as a starter at 174lbs.

Now I hope we can hang on to Lucas Jeske who was the other Gopher wrestling commit that flipped to AUG last year.  We will see. Junior College? Nah, Augsburg is just a nice little LAC located in a metro area with a wrestling program that competes at the national level year after year.

And maybe someday you'll have as many titles as Wartburg. Everybody can dream.

Hansen Ratings you better go update Wikipedia because as of now it still records the  number of National Titles as:
Augsburg 12
Wartburg  12

I know full well you beat us last year and now have 13 but how long will that hold up?

Just thought it was funny they called him a recruit and not a transfer.

Sure. Webster was a big recruit for the Gophers but ended up at Augsburg along with Lucas Jeske. The rumor was that Webster was a one and done and would transfer to the U. They have been recruiting him for years.

Not to take this a slightly different direction, but what are the rules on D1 coaches "recruiting D3?" I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen more often, especially in individualized sports where it is easier to decipher a talent level match for D1. Track and swimming would be prime examples of that. It can also work in the big sports as well. Michigan has a former D3'er in hoops right now that has had a positive impact. Duncan Robinson transferred from Williams to Michigan after his Freshman year.

The NCAA discourages transferring up by making the player sit a year.  That might be less of a big deal in wrestling as they're mostly on partial scholarships.  Beilein really had to believe in Robinson to give him a full scholarship for the year that he couldn't compete.

You seem to be knowledgeable in the world of NCAA eligibility. Question for you: Will Webster have a redshirt year next year when he sits or will he lose a year eligibility?

It's summer so pardon my non football post but with the NCAA D3 track & field championships concluding today I believe it is the final day of the 2016-17 sports calendar for the MIAC.

Because this is a Johnnie smokefest I wanted to provide a plug for a SR/2017 grad Ryan Bugler who is attempting to win back-to-back national titles in the 3000m steeplechase. If you find yourself around a computer at 10:45am this morning the NCAA is streaming the event - actually the entire meet if you're inclined. http://www.ncaa.com/sports/trackfield-outdoor-men/d3

I don't think they'd call it a redshirt year, but he won't lose a year.  After sitting out next year he'll have 3 years to wrestle.

Has anyone seen the sporting news or lindys rankings for D3? Thoughts?
