Some talk on twitter/X from some Wartburg folks about how they felt that NCC knew all their plays in the semifinal game before they happened. A few folks implied a similar scheme to that that has been described at Michigan. The same accounts indicated that they informed the Cortland staff prior to the Stagg Bowl about this and that they needed to change their signals. Any of our Wartburg fans here know anything about this? Obviously sign stealing has always been a part of sports but if there were rules broken to do it then it is a different matter. Also some pretty big accusations to be throwing around...

I saw a comment mentioning this on Twitter.  I have to think it would be impossible for a team like ncc to scout on a team they don't even know they are playing, live, in one or two games and have the ability to steal a teams signals.

Literally zero chance NCC is stealing Wartburgs or anyone signals.  But the thought has to cross your mind because of Michigan but even there we have no idea how much it helped or didn't help.

With the way some D3FB games are broadcast with a wide shot of the visiting sideline , it would be easier to gather the signals than from an iPhone a la Connor Stalions

Meh still a huge stretch.  These broadcasts usually never show the coaches (or three of them usually) sending in signals and they change those kids/coaches often anyway.

Here is a tweet from an unverified account...

It would seem to show that there were video recorded signals playlists from Belhaven and Mount Union.

Not much to verify authenticity, but that is the evidence presented so far.

This is another tweet from the same account that I saw. Again there is no way to verify that any of this is legit, but it would seem that NCC had film on teams they were playing from sources that were not the teams they were directly playing against. I am unsure what the rules are for sharing film in the playoffs. In conference games, each conference sets the rules on what film needs to be shared between teams. I know in the ARC all conference games need to be shared by each team on Sunday of the week the teams are playing each other. I am not sure what the rules are regarding playoff games and sharing film so, I do not know what to make of this if these screenshots are accurate. Without knowing the rules for playoff games I do not know what the ruling is on a team receiving film from teams other than their opponents in said game. Knowing college football, shady things have always gone on inside of coaching circles so none of this is surprising if it were to be true.

Ann Arbor to Naperville isn't that far for Connor Stalions to go right?

I wouldn't (and haven't) given those allegations any oxygen in social media. I don't believe them for a second.

Only coaches have access to that level of hudl. This person tweeting this info out must be a former NCC coach/GA that still has access to their hudl.

Every coach reaches out and gets this type of film when playing non-conference opponents. There is nothing here and nothing illegal.

Carry on...

DriftlessDuhawk

Illegal or not you may find some interesting bits of information regarding the matter if you go through Cortland's HC's twitter likes...

I agree this is most likely an overall nothing burger. But hey it is officially the offseason and this is a college football message board so if we aren't drumming up conspiracy theories what good are we  ;)

there was a time when even D3 QB's traffic tickets were front page news on d3football.com.  But the D3 guys also like to ignore the NCAA judgement against '16 UMHB.  Pick and choose I guess

This is very similar to the story from a few years back about Dubuque/UWL/UWW. Nothing ever happened from it and we all moved along.

You can frame that how you like but you know we don't care about traffic tickets. Failure to appear in court and getting a bench warrant issued is a much bigger deal than someone driving on a suspended license.

Meanwhile, the NCAA still lists the 2016 national title in its Stagg Bowl game program. We're the ones that redacted it from our playoff history page.

The Third Division

So Wartburg has a loaded schedule...

DriftlessDuhawk

Welcome back everyone!

The offseason is long but we already have a few 2024 schedules

Wartburg: https://go-knights.net/sports/football/schedule
NWU: https://nwusports.com/sports/football/schedule/2024
Coe: https://kohawkathletics.com/sports/football/schedule
ud: https://udspartans.com/sports/football/schedule

With the possibility of a 40-team playoff it sure seems like the ARC teams are trying to ramp up their noncon games to go after one of those at large bids. Wartburg going to Collegeville, Coe with a WIAC team on the schedule, and ud with a WIAC team and a playoff team from the year before! Obviously, more to come but these bigger profile games are fun and good for the league in my opinion. Can't wait to see what the rest of the league has instore.

How many starters / contributors does Wartburg return for the 2024 season?

The expectations at Wartburg will continue to be very high next season.  Even with the loss of some exceptional guys on defense due to graduation, most feel their D should be nearly as good or potentially better next season.  The D line should be extremely good.  The Walker kid will be an absolute beast on the DLine.  His sack vs NC and three time AA was impressive for a freshman.

On offense, Wartburg return 7 guys with starting experience on the O line, including the RT which was all conf but missed the last 9 games of the season due to injury.  Oline will be great; RB returns 4 of top 5 but Turbo will be tough to replace.  WR returns most of the production from last season.  Graduation of McLaughlin will be tough to replace, but QB2 has had good experience including playoff game at St Johns in 22.

Dubuque hired Ryan Maiuri as head coach.  He was the offensive coordinator at Central.  UD have now hired Mitchell Shepherd as the defensive coordinator.  I believe he was the DC at Central.  Former DC at Dubuque, Rob Huberty is stil at UD and is now shown as the recruiting coordinator and D-Line coach.  Keanon Cooper is now the defensive backs coach.  I believe he was the co-defensive coordinator at Luther.  Theo Hopkins, who was the defensive backs coach at UD is now the defensive coordinator at Knox College.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."
