So much has happened since the boards went down! I HATED the move at the beginning, but as time has gone on, I'm actually happy about it. For starters, at the onslaught, it seemed as though we were running away from Mount (not saying that's not the case) but I believe so much played into this. The elephant in the room is seeing how many schools have had to close their doors in the past few years because enrollment is down in college. I do believe that this will eventually hit some of the schools in the OAC, so if true JCU saw the writing on the wall and wanted to ensure a conference with stability.

With that said, I know there will be many who say that we are "Running away" from Mount, but I don't think that can hold much water when you schedule Non-Con games with Oshkosh, Whitewater, even W&J. It would've been just as easy to schedule a "decent team" from a "non-power" conference who will probably get 7 wins, to help bolster the SoS...

But as a "win" for me, with this move two of JCU's conference opponents fall within 2 hrs of me, so there's that.

a whole bunch of CFB coaching moves happening lately, including former Raider WR Tim Kennedy being named OC/QB coach at Lake Erie College today.  I'm sure the Purple Raiders will be naming their OC hire any day now....right?...right?

As many have read about JCU moving to the NCAC in 2025, I am wondering who could join the OAC going forward if any school. JCU is leaving for a chance to become a top dog in the NCAC vs. always going against the Raiders for post season opportunities. While there also the academic considerations, I do not see the conferences be equal in sport teams. JCU has always been a major player in all OAC sports, so I am missing their logic with this move.

Mount will have an opportunity to see a more competitive non-conference schedule if they can play teams with better programs than the last several years.

Maybe two open dates can bring about a more competitive schedule in 2025 and beyond.

If they are going to stay in Ohio, the only viable option would be Mount St. Joseph. Would place another school in the SW corner of Ohio. They have been very competitive in football recently, good in several other sports too (volleyball, women's hoops).

going to be tough to replace JCU's almost standard 9-1/8-2/7-3 on the Raiders schedule.  Mount really needs to go after the top of the PAC if/when they re-open their conference to OOC games

hey, hey, since 2013 we've only had 2 seasons finishing worse than 8-2...

Now Mount Union will never lose the OAC!!!

those Mount-JCU playoff matchups will be something, probably look a lot like the past games in this "rivalry"

If JCU can get past DePauw, Dennison, Witt and Wabash.

Wabash won't be an issue going forward. Might not win 6 games next year.

Happy to see the boards back!

Sad to see JCU go. I am worried about the future of the OAC. I'd definitely be in favor of not filling that spot, unless a REALLY good option pops up (that I can't think of, geographically).

Would love for a Mount/JCU/WIAC/CCIW agreement for a rotating powerhouse matchup slate. Far fetched, I am sure.

How about a Mount/Linfield Home & Home?

Ferrum it is!  ;)

In all seriousness, it will be interesting to see the non-conference scheduling strategies moving forward around the OAC.

With the current NCAA SOS calculations, you are better off playing top teams from bad leagues than actually playing powerhouse schools. JCU would have been in the playoffs last year if they had scheduled (and beaten) someone like Hanover or Rose-Hulman as opposed to taking Whitewater to the brink.

those are the D3 white whales.  there aren't a bunch, but they also have no real incentive to scheduling a Mount Union.  a likely loss probably takes away a potential home playoff game, a win would be huge for the program, but the slight chance of improving regional rankings isn't super enticing, imo.  Would you rather schedule a Susquehanna or Endicott or Del Val than taking your chances with Mount?

You have to win the OOC game though, BW had one of those whales in MSJ.  But lost both years.
