I'm sure BSC has been operating at a deficit this year.  They won't have any problem finding $320k worth of unpaid bills to spend this on.

This was not a drive to add to their endowment.

BSCpanthers

This fundraising event has never been an endowment fundraiser. In years past you could donate towards a department or sport. It was purely an operational budget fundraiser. This year you just donated without earmarking it since there isn't really a reason to earmark.

Any idea what will happen to the campus?

We are all wondering that right now.  Of course then hav been rumors, everything from Troy University wanting a Birmingham campus to IMG Academy moving to Birmingham.  Alabama A&M, Miles College and UAB of all been mentioned by someone.  So far it's all speculation with no real direction.  Wouldn't be against there being a Miles/BSC joint, becoming Miles Southern College or something along those lines.

UAB already said they have no interest. I don't really believe it, they are constantly looking for new buildings and building or renovating is expensive compared to a turnkey campus, but getting it through the UA Board would be difficult. Tuscaloosa has an honors college, not sure they will want to add one to UAB.

But I just hope whatever happens happens before it deteriorates.

Quote from: BSCpanthers on April 04, 2024, 10:26:16 PMI did read an article this past weekend that documented the BSC financial issues all the way back to the 70's, some of the issues the Board of Trustees were not even aware of until it was beyond out of control.  I'm sure someone should have been thrown in jail somewhere down the line, but that never happened.  At some point I begin to wonder how much the BoT were just done with it and ready for it to be done and gone.  Less headache for them to deal with.
I think this is article you mentioned? Interesting that in the '70's they were prepared to move to Shelby County and sell the campus to Miles College but didn't make the move because there had been negative reactions initially to Samford's move from East Lake to Homewood in the '50's? Can't help but wonder how things would have turned out had they gone ahead and made that move.

Thank you, Hawks. Excellent article investigating the many aspects that contributed to the demise of the college.

Centre's updated schedule (https://centrecolonels.com/sports/football/schedule/2024) shows that the SAA schedule has been completely redone. It's now seven games in weeks 5–11, with no resemblance to the previously released schedule. Centre's schedule shows "TBA" in week 3. Berry and Millsaps still have the old schedules with BSC up; Sewanee has taken theirs down.

I also see that Huntingdon has a schedule up featuring Hendrix; this game is shown in week 2, but perhaps it should be week 4 given that Hendrix seems to be playing ETBU in week 2.

The ASC schedule is probably pretty fluid to accommodate some movement.  They have games scheduled against some teams that might not even have teams.

BSC, you have been one of the most consistent and valuable posters in Region 3. I have enjoyed your comments and perspectives. Now that you do not have a proverbial dog in the hunt, I hope that you will stay active on the boards. Your "neutral" perspective will be well received.

The last that I had heard was that we would be going to Hendrix week 4 and Hendrix would be returning the trip to Montgomery in week 2 next year. Something could have changed or the one that is posted may be in error.

Also, given that Hendrix is playing Southwestern in week 3 and is off in week 11, I have a hunch that Southwestern was the team originally slated to be off in week 11 when it was a 9-team schedule, and that they scheduled a game against Texas Lutheran (who's the odd team in week 11 in the SCAC's 5-team schedule) for that week.

Looks like former Trinity DB Trey King will play his graduate COVID year at Indiana State.
