Quote from: SagatagSam on April 21, 2024, 06:15:11 PMThe real challenge is will the so-called "brigade of losers" allow us to migrate back to a traditional conference schedule? My understanding is that schools like Macalester, Carleton, Hamline, etc. advocated for the current schedule because it would avoid having to play either SJU or Bethel (or whoever rises to the top in the future).

Wasn't that a condition of MAC coming back to the MIAC?

I believe they were called "The Coalition of Losers."

I can't speak to the others schools, but I know for a fact that Carleton was not trying to avoid playing SJU or Bethel or any top team in the conference.

SJU sent out tailgate renewal notices today. Apparently $200 per space per season wasn't enough. Price has been raised to $250 for the season. I remember making of U$T for fleecing the fans of their 💴.
SJU is trying to monetize the hell out of the football program. Better get back in the top 10 soon!
If we ever get back to the Stagg Bowl the price of a tailgate spot could jump to over $4000.

Ah, finally a win on the board.   Hawthorn played a complete game and demolished North Melbourne.  The seven minutes of highlights are below.  As a bonus, you can hear Kelli Underwood making the call.  She's quite possibly the worst sports caller on the planet, every sport included, professional or amateur.

And as a bonus, here's this year's match between St Kevin's (yellow and green) and Xavier (red and black), the top two Catholic boys schools in Melbourne.  Probably five or six players on the pitch will be lining up for AFL squads in two years.  The first minute and half is what makes this entertaining.  They go full-on British private school vibe (called public schools there for some unfathomable reason).

Anyways, it's good to have a week free of football disappointment.

Thank goodness you're not a Port fan. I'm not sure I've ever seen a team cough up a 31 point lead and then end up losing by 42, at least not before Saturday.

For more reasons than one.  Most Port fans are sex offenders.  With a record.  Most have served six months in Chino for exposing themselves to eight-year-olds.

Also, Port has a long history of choking.  After their one and only Grand Final victory in 2004, their coach Mark Williams famously choked himself to the Brisbane supporters in a claim that Port had finally ditched the choking curse.  Nope.  It just went to sleep one year.  They have continued to choke hard ever since.

(I see that with the upgrade we're back to "click to embiggen", which suits me ok.)

I think going to 40 isn't the worst decision.  It does feel like college football is playing too many games, but that is probably old man yelling at the sky talk.

I was a strong proponent of the scheduling format for the MIAC.  I have kind of moved off it.  I always hoped the championship week would be a MIAC celebration for football.  Games at a single site that would have been fun to watch for the fans.  Instead it has become full of rematches.  Has a team had to travel to an opponent twice in the same season yet?  That would be weird.  I get maybe you want 1 and 1 playing for obvious reasons, but down the line let's see some games that aren't rematches.  I am also fine with a 9 game conference schedule, but I don't think that would sit well with some schools.  The other issues is that what if you have a tie (especially between 3 teams) for first and keeping the same number of home and away games.  The Big 12 from a few years ago was a shining example of those disasters.  I also think one of the reasons we have the current format is to ease travel.

Edit: St. Olaf played at Hamline twice last year!  Oops.

Throwing this out to the MIAC and D3 community. John Faison was a high school and MIAC football, basektball and baseball official. I don't know him personally but have followed his story. He took a tumble off a ladder last fall and suffered some awful injuries. He's on the mend but has a long road to recover.

Does anyone know if Alex Larson has any shot at being drafted or even becoming a free agent? Been awhile since I've taken a look at the board, so have no idea if there's been any talk. On another note, any perspective on whether or not St John's will take a step forward this season? Still feels like we were snubbed not getting into the playoffs.

A.Lar may get a free agent look.
SJU needs to take care of business every single week and the play-off picture takes care of itself.Time will tell if they play like every week is an elimination game.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Need to bring in Sam Sura as a running game coordinator.

I have a wedding over Labor Day weekend so I looked at the SJU football schedule to see which game I would miss. The answer is none! The first game of the season is the following Saturday against Carthage.

Yep! Nobody is playing Labor Day weekend because the Saturday is Aug. 31, and we can't play on Aug. 31 if it's a Saturday.

Some random guy on Twitter said he's going to the Seahawks rookie camp. No idea if that's true.
