COVID and the extra years wrecked D3 sports, unbridled NIL would be the death blow

Pretty incredible take here given that 2022 was like a generationally great year for D-III football and 2023 really wasn't all that far behind.

call me crazy, but having 23-24+ year olds, playing 5-6 years does not seem like D3 football (or D3 sports in general) to me

You understand that's a temporary accommodation to student-athletes whose educations and careers were objectively and universally disrupted, right?

I understand.  I just feel for the now upperclassman that hasn't been able to crack a lineup because a near-doctorate student has been taking just enough classes to stay eligible and play an extra season or two.  I also feel bad for the kid being "advised" to stay in school for another year (or two) at the D3 level.  6 years of D3 college is an exceptional financial burden on a young person.

Y'all probably already knew this so I apologize for being late to the party.
Mount Union's 2025 schedule now says TBD for the non-conference date (deleting Ferrum) and still has "at John Carroll " in Week 3.

D3fanboy

JCU isn't going to run away from their OAC daddy just to sign up for an OOC game the next year.  Mount will likely be playing an HCAC team in week three

RaidersRGr8t

That was my assumption when they announced the OAC-HCAC agreement in January; that those games would replace the JCU spot on everybody's schedule.
Hopefully the Raiders find a good, competitive game for the opener. Pretty late to have to start hunting again (outside the WIAC, that is).
Also of note is that the OAC hasn't posted the 2026 (and beyond) conference schedules.

At 16 months out there are typically decent opponents to be had for an opening week game.

I'd be stoked if it's true, but aren't we just assuming that Ferrum is out for '25?

RaidersRGr8t

Yes it is assumed, based on the fact that the future schedules on the website has TBD for week 1 in 2025.
Also, Mount will have 5 home OAC games and 3 road games in 2025. I wonder if the conference will adjust schedules?

As long as the NCAA approves Ferrum for Division 2 Membership next summer.

the Jags opened up rookie minicamp today

QuoteWayne Ruby, WR, Mount Union

Wayne Ruby, started off practice by catching his initial few balls. However, he followed that up with two uncharacteristic drops, then pulled up limping on a post route. We are awaiting more information from the team on any injury specifics, or if he simply temporarily tweaked something.

Random question, but does anyone have the replay of Mount Union's 1999 semifinal game vs rowan?

I don't recall that game ever happening, sorry
