The return of Collins is a big win for the coaching staff.

I watched highlights on the Riverside QB.  Impressive.  He's a dual threat guy.  I can see why there'd be some excitement around him.

130 freshmen is a good sign.  They needed that after the 2023 class just to build some depth of sophs for 2025.

Mike Maloney is the next one.  I can see why returning QB's would leave.  The Riverside quartet of incoming freshmen is very, very exciting

Thanks for the info Raider 68.

Mike Maloney, incoming freshman QB, looks very intriguing. I'm excited to have Beaudrie back in the program and hope he can pick up where he left off. I like the idea of them heading back to using a mobile QB in the offense as it just opens up so many more options.

I have noticed at least 2 players are transferring from NDC (DE and K). The kicker looks like he will replace the freshman K we lost to transfer in the off season.

Lots of talented kids coming in, including hitting many corners of Ohio HS football (Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, southern Ohio). I'm hoping a couple can make a difference right away. There are at least 3 DL that played at a high level in Ohio HS and were very good (Maxwell,Mclaughlin,Shadie). A number of solid looking RBs, including one from Pickerington North. It looks like a skilled group of OL are incoming (development is key here). I've got high hopes for Mason Ashby, NC Hoover grad, to return kicks this year. He returned something like 4-5 for TDs as a senior last year. The Painesville group of players look talented and set school records together.

My questions for the team would be DBs (corners and safeties), as well as OL. It seems like the DBs/LBs had some miscommunication to give up big plays and hopefully that is corrected. If Collins is returning to coach offense, that could be huge! I wish Dartt could just be the head coach and not worry about calling plays. If you look at Ryan Day at OSU this spring, he looks like a different coach bc he now has Chip Kelly to manage the offense and he can do big picture things for the program. Looking forward to an exciting season!

K & J,

That is what I was told last Thursday, but forgot to post it. Thanks for checking! :)

The QB room is very rarely a problem at Mount.  Its not shocking to see a Mount QB transferring "up".  Hopefully Beaudrie can knock off the rust from a year off quick, but Maloney is for sure the most exciting QB recruit since KB.

Watching his highlight film on HUDL, he has very good pocket awareness and also runs exceptionally well.  Maloney may push Beaudrie for the starting spot this fall.

We talk about game date and -- surprise new site for the 2024 Stagg Bowl in the podcast ep we dropped this morning. It's not a big change, though, still in the Houston area.

If you downloaded earlier this morning, I ran an update just now with the new info.

Just what the D3 football world has been clamoring for, a larger stadium...a thousand miles from nearly every D3 team.  It'll be great

Probably not going to be too much different than 2021 in Canton.

like I've said, the Hall of Fame Village people in Canton make the NCAA look competent.  It was a mess that year.  It was a mess in Texas, even with the host school playing in the game once.  And it will be an embarrassment on ESPN 8 in Houston as well.

I think the main difference is that Canton is within 500 miles of the vast majority of D3 football schools, so it would be a lot easier for non-Stagg Bowl-affiliated D3 football fans to attend.  I don't think that's really a thing, but nobody is flying to Houston to attend the Stagg.  It's sad, but that's the reality.  I'm not arguing TX vs OH.

Put the game in Salem and leave it. Make it D3FB's Omaha...again

Little Giant 89

I spent a large portion of the last couple of weeks watching the D-I College World Series from Omaha.  The broadcasters raved about the community of support that the event has in Omaha.  That community and culture can only be built on the foundation of year after year of hosting the event.

That's something that we had for several years in Salem.  It is a damned shame that we walked away from that.

Except absolutely nobody did.  We don't have to run the hypothetical on what happens when the game is hosted in a relatively isolated location vs. a location that is smack dab in the middle of some of the densest Division III territory on the map.  We have data that tells us how that turns out and it isn't what you or anybody else thought it would be.

We shouldn't also equate low attendance with a poor event.  The events in Canton and Annapolis, I thought, were great for the student-athletes, which is what this is all about in the first place.
