I would be surprised if Thorburn returns after seeing his contributions cut back substantially last season.

The Spartans have the junior forward transfer from Duquesne and the graduate transfer guard from Hamilton coming in.  Are there any other known transfers?

After bringing in so many graduate transfers last season (at one point, 7-8 players) and looking at the returning stat sheet, which I believe includes only Trunley and Rashid on the list of proven talent, I have to think we will see more transfers.

John Menard - grad transfer from D-2 St. Anselm's - averaged 1.4 points last year
Chuma Oyigbo - grad transfer from D-2 St. Michael's -- only scored 4 points in 13 games last year but averaged 7 points as a freshman

Thanks and I believe Elam is also moving on, leaving just 4 known quantities so far on the roster.  1 unknown in the Duquesne transfer.  9-10 others who played 3 minutes or less last season.

One more thought on Case Western Reserve.

The Duquesne transfer has two years of eligibility as far as I can tell.  Every other known quantity graduates in 2024-2025 and the fifth year player option is going away.

Do the Spartans bring in more undergraduate transfers and redshirt graduate students this season?

Or do they face a complete rebuild?

Carnegie Mellon has announced a four-player incoming freshman class:

Jackson Mansfield-Jimenez G Miami
Evan Marizimi Wing Northfield Mt. Herman Massachusetts
Alex Hassanein PG California
Ian Brown Wing Wilmette Ill.

No word on whether there are any transfers.

It looks like RJ Holmes is not returning. His Linkedin says he attended CMU 2000-2004.
CMU has an excellent returning backcourt in rising juniors Justin Allen and Buckley DeJardin.

Hopefully he'll change his LinkedIn to 2020-2024. LOL. I thought Justin Allen was in the portal. So he decided to return?

I don't know for sure whether Justin Allen is returning but the Carnegie Mellon website lists him as a current junior:

CMU will be opening a new facility this fall. It is a far cry from the pipes banging around Skibo when the heat kicked on.

Chicago has posted its 2024-2025 roster. One D-1 transfer, Dominic Martinelli, 2.4 points per game last year for St. Thomas. He was a 2,000-point scorer in high school.

Five freshmen: Arhan Lapsiwala 6'3" guard from Texas; Carter Seeliger 6'6" forward from Texas; DJ Harvey 5'10" freshman from South Carolina; Daniel Cochran 6'7" forward from Tennessee; LJ Moore 6' 7" forward from Georgia. It looks like a promising class.  Chicago is only losing 16 ppg from last year, most notably Bryce Hopkins 11 ppg.

In other UAA news, Brandeis has added a 6'6" rising junior transfer from D-2 St. Anselm's, Elias Rodl. Interesting fact, his father Henrik won an NCAA championship with UNC in 1993, played professionally in Germany for more than ten years, played in the Olympics and recently coached the Egyptian national team.

Reported online by Poppers and others that Wade Jackson is (presumably) the big transfer to Case Western who was discussed a few weeks back.  He was a key player at D2 Belmont Abbey for two years after playing two years as I believe a scholarship player at D1 Loyola (MD).

I imagine Case's starting lineup next year (barring other transfers who haven't been reported) will look something like:

Wade Jackson, Nick Schiavello, Andy Barba, Umar Rashid, and Sam Trunley

That's a lot of big-time talent, certainly enough to compete at the top of the UAA again, though of course may take some time to come together and the depth may be a question mark.  And of course, Case will once be starting from scratch next year after most of those guys depart.

This league is going to be tough from top to bottom.  Still, with nearly everyone returning from Emory and Wash U and lots of talent they have to be the teams to beat.  They should both be pre-season D3Hoops top 25 teams.  Competing for the top half of the league and a shot at the NCAAs will be Case, Brandeis, NYU, and possibly CMU (at least if RJ Holmes and/or Justin Allen are returning).  Of course, that could all change with injuries and unexpected departures.

WashU has posted its roster. I'll leave it to WUPHF to comment.

WUPHF

Thanks, yeah, minutes-wise, everyone is back for the Bears except for a reserve forward.

As long as everyone returns healthy, WUSTL and Emory should be the class of any otherwise loaded league.

Classes begin this week and next so maybe we will see rosters for CWRU and Carnegie Mellon soon.
