He'd have hated it, then he'd have loved it when he realized there was a brilliant work around.

Perfect combo of "compliant" with a competitive advantage  8-)

Quote from: SagatagSam on August 12, 2024, 11:33:49 AMNew MIAC Football and Basketball scheduling cliff notes:

2025-26 Football: seven regular season conference games plus 1 vs. 2 championship game for NCAA Automatic Bid (and then 3 vs. 4, 5 vs. 6, etc.)

2027 and beyond Football: traditional round-robin, everyone plays everyone. No championship week. One non-conference game.

2024-25 Basketball: Four-year trial of a new scheduling structure. "Round-and-a-half" conference schedule (16 games for men, 18 for women). Stated differently, no more traditional round-robin. Men's and Women's games will be played together as a double header. Men play the first game of the DH for the first half of the season, then flip where the women will play the first of the DH in the second half of the season.

Kind of funny that the basketball and football coaches are moving in opposite directions on non-conference games. It's a big fun division out there football coaches.

Quote from: carletonknights on August 12, 2024, 02:59:17 PMNot a fan of only one non-conference game, at all. Ideally, I think Carleton was going to be in a situation where they played a east coast and west coast team every year, alternating homes and aways. Which would've been cool to see.

Also do not like the cashless move. Everything is requiring me to download an app now. Shoot, there's at least 3-5 apps I have to use at work.

Don't forget the service fees all the apps charge for using them.  I had one that charged almost double if you used a credit card.  I tried using a debit card, and I still got hit with the fee!

I think for some schools the single conference game will be good.  I am pretty sure St. Olaf will see a healthy dose of Luther for that NC game.  There is a large (usually older) group of St. Olaf alumni that view Luther as St. Olaf's biggest rival.  Do teams still get to have scrimmage in football?  I thought they did years ago, but I might be thinking of high school in Texas.

Also the basketball one is a little odd.  I know a few schools had JV teams for the men.  Always thought it was a little odd that colleges had JV/Freshmen teams, but I did feel it was good for the kids that wanted to keep playing.

Yes, every team gets a scrimmage. We've been playing Hamline for many years. The Luther rivalry has been consistent, but you'd think you might want to see somebody else after a couple years of having the exact same schedule.

Are you asking about the JV teams due to them going to the women/men doubleheaders? The JV teams that play in Minnesota typically weren't playing before the Varsity games the past few years. There's always a couple guys that could play for the varsity and JV so it's nice to not have them try to play twice in one night. It's tough in hoops to see many varsity minutes as a freshman, we've had a lot of guys who have come through the JV to get significant minutes on Varsity.

I agree with you on the 1 non-con game. With the conference being limited to 2 maybe 3 regionally/nationally competitive teams I wonder if that would force them to look elsewhere in the future. If it holds them back from getting into playoffs then they'd have to explore options.

Playoff Adjustments: All playoff contests will be cashless in 2024-25 with admission conducted through HomeTown Ticketing. HomeTown Ticketing has a "HomeTown Fan" app available for download on mobile devices.

Football Travel Roster: Visiting team travel rosters will expand to 75. Host institutions are required to communicate facility constraints.
St. John's football season tickets are handled through HomeTown Ticketing.  If there is a surcharge it is buried in the cost of the tickets.

I just opened up the HomeTown app to review my season tickets.  I noticed that they are still taking "orders" for tailgate spots.  I think raising the price to $250 has caused supply to overtake demand.  In the beginning, at $100, it was the opposite.

I used to be critical of U$T raising ticket prices for the SJU game. SJU has become an equally hungry money grabber.
Another lackluster season and and they'll really feel the pain in the pocket book.

Looks like someone in the ticket needs to register for Econ 101.

That's pretty steep. I couldn't find the cost for TCU's spots, but it's one where if you have to ask you probably can't afford it. I did see that for SMU it's $1000 plus annual giving. No word if SMU includes the butler or you provide your own.

Really?  I always just open the email I get when I order them--have never downloaded the app.  ;D

Cashless is getting more and more common.  I'm pretty sure cash isn't accepted at Target Field.  Many youth events have either gone that route or are moving that direction.

A little redemption for Australia on the Olympic publicity stage. This is good. Jemima Montag, a dual bronze medalist at Paris, speaks exceptionally well. Her younger sister and my #2 were on the same gymnastics squad for a few years. Her dad was very enthusiastic about competitive walking.

My season tickets came in yesterday's mail, along with the annual pre-season report on positions. No mention of a St. John's player transferring to BU at the QB position. However, there were two transfers in to vie for that spot, Jadon Hanzel from the University of Mary and Trevor Fleege from UW Eau Claire. Alex Call had off season surgery and is out for the season. Also vying for the starting position are Sophomores Ryan Bengston and Albert Rundell, as well as Freshman Cole Gerrell. First non-conference game is Saturday night, September 14th down the road at Northwestern. MIAC ball is just around the corner...

Looks like the UMAC is struggling. Their website still has last year's info on it. I noticed that Northwestern is playing a couple of the UMAC teams twice to fill out the schedule. How many teams are needed again to get an automatic bid into the field of forty? Looks like the UMAC is down to 6 teams, which I seem to recall was the new minimum.

And the WIAC has some fun non-conference games lined up - La Crosse at RPI, Wheaton at Oshkosh, John Carroll at Whitewater, Linfield at Oshkosh, UMHB at Whitewater, and Wabash at Platteville, to highlight a few of them. Wow.
