Do we know if anyone is going to be streaming the scrimmage on Saturday?

I don't think we ever do, seems like the teams from Mexico used to but I don't recall that in the last couple of years.

My Spanish is a little weak but I don't see any mention of it on the UANL's Twitter account.https://x.com/UANL_Autenticos

Well, scrimmage ended way better than it starte and we played more than 2 quarterbacks! Got to see a good number of the transfers as well.

Isaac Phe, Jake Wright, and Cade Renfro (spelling?) all took turns. None of them looked very good in the first half but Phe and weight looked pretty good in the second.

Asa Osborne looked really good at rb as did Cameron Bibins (safety last year?). They played a couple of other rbs and they all looked decent too. I can't remember their names.

#30 at safety had a really nice int but not sure if they ever said his name....

The return team was looking a lot like 2028... Dakarion Judge was electric.

AJ Williams at 6'4" moved pretty well at wr too.

The kicking game didn't miss anything, but it seemed like they didn't have the distance that we've had in the past.

Defense looked good, not a lot of tfl and got gashed a few times on runs. But held them to 13 points.

Agreed!  First half-------they looked like they did last year(terrible)----Second half looked like they woke up.  Dakrion Judge looked good as did AJ Williams.  #30 was all over the field.  It's pretty terrible when your leading tacklers are either a safety or CB.  Defensive line did not get any penetration.  UANL ran the ball very well against the CRU in the first half, second half the CRU made some adjustments and the runs weren't big chunks like in the first half.  QB's had little time to throw.  Don't know if the OC was up in the box or down on the sidelines but the play calling, like last year, was atrocious at times.  We didn't blitz any, again no penetration so the UANL QB had all the time in the world.  They definitely have a lot to work on for sure.  Blocked punt reminded me of last year(terrible)

Riley Zayas

It was clear that in the second half, both offensively and defensively, they seemed to settle down and find their rhythm, which was great to see. Particularly offensively. The talent is there, but just like last year, it's a matter of putting it together and getting everyone on the same page. That's the obvious challenge of it all.

#30 was Gavin Brzezinski, who played with the JV last year. Cedar Park native who played at Leander HS. Definitely could be a key contributor to the defense this year. He had some great reads on run plays and absolutely flew downhill to make a number of tackles. And as mentioned in previous posts, was good in pass coverage as well.

Bibins seems to fit well at RB. Tough ballcarrier, ability to gain plenty of yardage after contact. Osbourn transferred in from Navarro JC and was pretty solid there, so glad to see him making a good transition to UMHB.

Thought all three QBs, particularly Kade Renfro (#18) and Issac Phe (#15) really settled in over the final two quarters. I believe both threw a TD pass in the second half. Phe impressed me with his feel for the pocket and knowing when to take off and run, which resulted in some significant rushing gains for the offense throughout the game. He has matured as a QB, and that is excellent to see. Renfro also made some nice reads and definitely has a strong arm. Pro-style type QB who seemed comfortable running the offense, which is nice to see from a transfer. Same goes for Jake Wright, who transferred in from Pittsburg State.

All in all, I try to never overreact to a scrimmage, especially since I know they're rotating a bunch of players in and out to get a feel for how they handle different scenarios and playcalls. But considering they've only been practicing together for a couple weeks, last night was a solid performance. Still two weeks until the season opener, so plenty of time to correct the miscues.

Didn't notice anything on the True to the Cru site about the scrimmage.  No talk with Harmon regarding the scrimmage, his thoughts?

Riley Zayas

No, but I'll definitely ask about his thoughts on the scrimmage once we have our first media availability next week. Should be a much clearer picture once we get to that first availability as rotations and the two-deep are usually finalized by game week.

Etch and Riley, I'm pretty much right there with you on the takeaways from the scrimmage. Slow first start but definitely stepped it up across the board in the 2H.

Early negatives: Corner and secondary looked as weak as any I've ever seen on the field for us, granted it is early and there's lots of time to improve and for players to step up. One bright spot as ya'll mentioned was the safety #30 Brzesinski, he looked fantastic.

LB's were serviceable, same duo as we've had last few years. Need a SAM (outside backer) to emerge though.

Defensive line is absurdly loaded in regards to talent. Not just the few big transfers we got but also some returners. BIG #90 jumped off the field for me, Botts is fantastic as always - glad to see his injury wasn't serious. Don't forget Cavness who was on the sideline and didn't play. Run defense should be back to being elite once they gel.

OFFENSE

Negatives

Would've liked to see a little more depth at WR and some more explosiveness. I agree I thought the tall #3 at wideout AJ Williams was our best receiver. TJ Rone at slot is obviously electric but not sure if he even was targeted one time.

The good:

Running backs - the kid from OK St/Navarro looked good, he will get touches. Gonna be interesting to see who else emerges in the backfield.

The offensive line pass pro has clearly taken a step in the right direction, clear improvement already.

Question marks:

Quarterback

I thought Phe looked solid, not an all american but can drive the bus if our supporting cast is there. The most talented QB I saw was Renfro, although I will say he didn't play well. Looked tight, the arm talent was there but he was forcing throws and didn't settle down until right at the end. He is a former Ole Miss and Arkansas QB btw. So again clearly talented but needs to settle down and just let it rip, will be interesting to see who wins the job.

Evidently there was a Stream on the Mexico side and they allow scores to be shown?

Dang, quite a few quality players that we lost.  Gutshall was a beast.  Cal Robinson is now on coaching staff---I think his injury is ultimately what sidelined him.  McClintock was an excellent TE, Sarlls was the DS, Kendreon Miller I believe was Kenneth Millers brother.

Honestly, I'm surprised Robinson was able to make it back. That leg was wrecked. I wonder if McClintock is stepping away or taking a year off or something. He did have a couple of rib injuries that I can remember.

Yeah Kendreon was Kenneth's brother. Iirc Kenneth transferred in after Kendreon committed?

CruFrenzy

Insane amount of transfers, more than I thought. Clearly loads of talent but man it's a definite shift in approach. I hope we can gel and play Cru football. The talent we brought in is promising.

Disappointed to see some of those young guys not return...

Nate Western & Kyler Smith in particular were two of the best LB prospects I've ever seen at UMHB, both gone... dang. Guy Powell another young guy that probably would've been competing for a starting job at RB.
