Quote from: Pat Coleman on August 28, 2024, 10:23:54 AMHopefully the Patriots or some other team find room for Wallis on their practice squad. That's not a terrible place to be.
Just got a text from one of my football alumni buddies that the Vikings may pick him up off waivers to return kicks- he was 2nd in the NFL in the preseason in kick returns so far!
https://www.emilysportnews.com/2024/08/29/great-news-vikings-have-confirmed-their-primary-punt-returner-following-the-shocking-release-of-kene-nwangwu/

Since that article is kind of long, here's the part relevant to Wallis:

"David Wallis – WR

"The New England Patriots made a somewhat surprising decision to waive David Wallis, a wide receiver from Randolph-Macon College, despite his impressive preseason performance. Wallis returned seven kicks for 202 yards, including a long of 53 yards, making him a standout in the preseason.

"Though he didn't make the Patriots' final roster, Wallis is likely to attract interest on the waiver wire. The Vikings would be wise to consider him as a potential addition. Wallis was a feel-good story for the Patriots, coming from a small school and seemingly doing enough to secure a spot as a return specialist. Although he ultimately didn't make the cut, Minnesota could take a chance on this promising player who made a strong impression in the preseason."

Here's a short (1:20) video of Wallis highlights for the Patriots in pre-season. Hope another team gives him an opportunity.

RMC has 141 on the roster, with 44 freshmen and about 30 SRs/5th years.  This means there's almost 100 returnees, translating into great retention numbers.

Additionally, there seems to be 9 or 10 5th years within those listed as Seniors.  Many of those start on the defensive side.

As best I can tell, there are only 2 or 3 starters returning on the offensive side.

Here's an interesting twist to RMC's first game.  They'll be playing against a former RMC starting QB, Presley Egbers.

Not sure what you are looking at. Although the box on the right with the dropdown menu of current and past rosters says "2024 Football Roster", the heading on the left still says "2023 Football". And looking at the players, all of last year's seniors are there, including David Wallis, who we know is gone. In addition, There are only 19 juniors on the 2023 roster, so it seems unlikely that there would be 30 seniors/5th years this season.

Do you have access to something that isn't yet on the website?

The 19 juniors plus 10 5th year give you the 29 I referenced.

It's there, slightly hidden.  Use '/2024-25' at the end of roster link.

A solid second half from RMC tonight after a slow first 30 minutes. Lots of new pieces to get working together this season. Three great starting linebackers in Deaver, Skinner and Reyes. Looking forward to the season.

But he was not officially on the roster, which hasn't been updated since 9/10.

RMC guts out a tough 14-7 win over Hobart in OT.

All seven ODAC teams in action (Shenandoah was idle) come away with wins. Bridgewater shuts out Southern Virginia 80-0. W&L dominates Apprentice 68-28. H-SC trailed Brevard 30-21 after three quarters, then pitched a 30-0 shutout in the fourth to win 51-30. The other three games were decided by a combined 13 points.

I was up in The Yellow Jacket Club on the 3rd floor balcony in Birdsong Hall directly over that end zone with a number of football alumni and the play that set up the missed FG by Hobart at the end- a pass interference call by the side judge- was the single WORST CALL I have ever seen by a football official at any level!! Both players went up for the ball and the RMC defender had the upper hand and tipped the pass- it wasn't even CLOSE to being pass interference! I really did feel sorry for the Hobart kicker, though, even though it would have beaten us! It was a chip shot that he probably could have made 8 out of 10 times but he kicked it so it spiraled sideways wide left. I don't understand why the Jackets don't run #20 Mitchell Johnson more! After a first half where he didn't play a down Pedro inserted him on the drive in the 2nd half and he carried the ball about 5 or 6 times in a row and averaged about 5 yds/ carry and they got down inside the 20 and Pedro took him out? Then ran him on the 4th down play from the 1 and he had no chance. Then he only played him sparingly after that- he must be in Pedro's DOG HOUSE for something!! All in all we were outplayed and were very lucky to win!

^^^ Watching online, that PI call leading to the missed field goal attempt seemed iffy to me as well.

Also, about the last play in OT that ended the game, Frank Rossi, who writes for D3football.com, posted this on X/Twitter questioning the ruling of the officials: https://x.com/FrankRossi/status/1835027866159137026

But the article from the Hobart website says: "Senior quarterback Johnny Colombi gained 3 yards on a draw up the middle, but had the ball ripped out of his grasp by sophomore safety Quentin Mankin, ending the game."
https://hwsathletics.com/news/2024/9/14/hobart-football-football-pushes-8-yellow-jackets-to-ot.aspx

If Hobart isn't questioning what happened, that should put the controversy to rest.

And I agree that we were outplayed and lucky to win. Also, not sure why Coach Arruza opted to go for a TD on 4th down at the two yard line instead of kicking a field goal.
