Quote from: Machiavelli on September 05, 2024, 01:58:16 PMYou're a little new here, I get it. A lot of us have been here a long time and don't take things to heart or personally. I'd love to be wrong on this one. We'll see how it all shakes out. It goes beyond 10 years, but I was just providing evidence as to why we can't take Rochester seriously until the results are different. It's not the greatest comparison, but it's like saying Buff State should go .500 this year. St. Lawrence sprinkled a few good years in there from 2013-2016 so it's definitely a possibility. Best of luck to the Jackets. I hope the Hooters there is still alive and well.

Fun Fact:  I live 4,331 feet from a Hooters which I bet is the closest of any LL poster.

Taste it.

Sorry Utah, unfortunately the rest of us aren't rich like you.

Welcome to the Liberty League Board Jackets. A week ago I lobbied for representation from Rochester and voila here you are. Don't get in a fret about Machiavelli. He's butted heads with everybody here at one time or another and the best thing to do is just understand he's always right.  ;) And truth be told he's one of our favorite posters...It's apparent on paper that the Yellowjackets are positioned for success this year. They have a lot of solid pieces. If they win the games they're supposed to and maybe beat one or two of the Big Four they'll get their just respect.

Here's my week #1 predictions...
Rochester 24 - Olivet 16      The respect starts now.
Hobart 33 - Alfred 19         Statesmen are still better.
Union 27 - Utica 20           Coach Drach starts filling those big shoes.
Johns Hopkins 30 - Ithaca 17  Bombers miss those key pieces.
Endicott 38- St. Lawrence 17  Larries not close yet.
Brockport 41 - Buff St 7      Bengals may be getting farther away.
UW-Lacrosse 48 - RPI 13       New season is not last season.

RPI got drubbed 35-0. Whaddayagonnado. UWL is really really good.

RPi really hung in there for a while, but physically, UWL was in a different weight class.  I actually thought their O-line underperformed give their size advantage, so wouldn't surprise me if they end up third or fourth in the WIAC. That league is built different (as it should be given its competitive advantages).

That WR Studer is a stud.

I agree in that I don't think the score was super indicative of the competition. RPI will be tough to beat in the LL this year if they can avoid giving up those big plays and penalties on their own big plays. I'm taking this as good scheduling for now and we'll see if it helps them long-term. UWL was big and fast, but athletically, they weren't 35 points better. RPI killed themselves time and time again. While it sucks nationally, it's no harm/no foul around here. Will take the it's a marathon, not a sprint approach for today.

I was only able to watch a little of the RPI game last night. At 14-0 there was a point early in the third where I thought they were about to get back in to it. Hey that's a hell of a first game to schedule. Lacrosse is a very good team. Credit to RPI. They shouldn't see better this year and I believe that experience will help them when it comes down to it. I love the scheduling!

I forgot the season started last night, and it looks like RPI and Buffalo State forgot as well. THE LL is still looking for their first point against an out of conference opponent...who woulda thunk. Picks for the rest of the week:

Alfred.(3).  @.    Hobart (24)    Hobart Defense shuts the Saxons down, EJ rushes for 100+

Union  (17).  @.    Utica. (28).    Pioneers unplug the Chargers

Endicott(35)  @.    SLU.  (10).    Saints not quite there yet, as Gulls dominate

Rochester(28) @    Olivet (21).    Yellowjackets get a road Sting

Hopkins (31)  @.    Ithaca (17).    Bombers tied at half but Bluejays peck away in second half

Take out is the best. I drive an hour and change through Utah's swanky neighborhood to get my Hooters wing fix. They even do curbside delivery now.

The pandemic was awful, but as a person with a disability, the collective, societal realization that we should do curbside pickup for food is such a godsend. It has made my life immeasurably better

Caz Bombers

takeout from Hooters? Talk about hustling backwards. All the terrible product and none of the, ahhh, uplifting, ummm, ambiance.

Machiavelli

Me thinks some sarcasm is being lost in translation here...

Ice Bear

I'm guessing Union losses by 10-14 points tonight. I think this is a very good Utica team and a Union team that will get better as the year progresses but will struggle to find itself early. Let's go Union! Hope I'm way off on this.

Alfred is up 7-0 on Hobart at the half. Things are not looking good for the LL right now.

Bartman

Hobart escapes the Boz with a 10-7 squeaker over Alfred. A great effort by the Saxons, who could easily have won except for a fumbled punt with 2 minutes to go. The Hobart offense is all about the run this year as EJ Taylor runs for 159 yards on 19 carries. Colombi is just not a consistent passer , but he did run in the winning score. The WR were all freshmen, which will be good in the long run, but they will struggle developing this year as Colombi tries to find his consistency. The Hobart Defense is very solid on the Line and the LBs....but a very good QB will be able to exploit the cover boys.
I predicted that Hobart would need every minute of every game to develop before the Ithaca game to have a shot at an upset, and it was evident tonight that they will need to improve significantly on offense. The defense should keep us in every game.
. I will say that while Colombi won't win any all-league accolades, he is a tough competitor and will figure out how to scrap out wins.
Hopefully the LL will have a better day tomorrow.   .
