I see UMHB received very little noticings in the yearly rundown of noticing, pickems, and so forth. It makes sense, but it is also frustrating. I'm not sure what UWW has returning, but I believe we will give them a run for their money and it will be a close game. I think we can win the game. It can't get much worse than last year.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Quote from: crufootball on September 03, 2024, 10:56:19 AMASC Pick'ems is back. Ralph Turner and I will be running it again and we decided to fully add the SCAC games into the mix to add games and hopefully new contestants. I would love for any of you to join the contest and note that ETBU starts on Friday night.

What a terrible decision to play this game on a Friday night.

While ETBU is playing Friday at Ornelas Stadium in Marshall.....

Just 3 miles away Longview Vs. Marshall will be playing at Maverick Stadium in front of nearly 10,000 fans.

The ETBU game will be lucky to have 1,000 people there.

ETBU gets pretty good support from the Marshall community on gameday.  They have folks not affiliated with the school at all that attend game just for the love of the game.  Won't be many this week.

I completely agree. I would never rule the CRU out of any game before it starts. Too much talent. The good news is that the "noticings" don't influence the outcomes. After our "bad season" in 2012, Platteville was picked to win the WIAC by SID's and Coaches in 2013. We won the national championship.  Are you making the trip up?

I will not be able to make the trip. As a teacher, I will need to be in class, and my family is traveling over seas during Christmas, so all of our money is going towards that.

UMHB is in good shape, I believe, athletically; the key will be gelling as a squad and buying in to the things that help a team to get far into the playoffs.

According to the local paper, Phe is the starter with Jake Wright as the backup. Kade Renfro is hurt but it doesn't say how much.

Phe was a decent QB last season and I would expect him to improve with that season under his belt.

I think that is a absolutely fair way to talk about Phe, he wasn't bad but was thrown into a depleted roster against a very tough schedule. Hopefully with a year of improvement, a better roster, and even some competition pushing him to be better will get him to the next level of performance.

D3 teams have substantial NIL?  is that a TX thing?  the star transfer gets a free 6" sub at the local deli?

Renfro is not on the roster as of right now, hope hes alright, the article makes it look like he'll be out indefinitely.

Woah, pretty sure he was around 2:00 when I looked this afternoon...  He does have a history of knee injuries.  Missed 2021 and 2022 with them iirc.

Biggest surprise for me is Jacob Landry at QB2. Hadn't heard much about him.

Yeah, didn't see that coming. Although, I generally take the 2-deep with a grain of salt lol. I really want to see Dakarion Judge get a chance. Dude is an electric punt returner and pretty impressive slot receiver. Reminds me a lot of another WR from West-Orange Stark...

UMHB03

I'm surprised to see only one of the ETBU defensive transfers in the 2-deep.

Yeah, probably good to remember that the two-deep released during the week isn't always the way things end up playing out on gameday. So no need to take it too serious, especially in Week 1. Though it is surprising that Landry, who as far as I know, didn't get reps in the scrimmages, is now ahead of Wright (at least on paper), who played pretty well in both scrimmages. But again, I wouldn't read into it too much at this point.
