Ugly, ugly afternoon:

Adrian 55, Elmhurst 20
St. John's 49, Carthage 0
Central 49, Illinois Wesleyan 17
Illinois College 46, Millikin 21
UW-Oshkosh 21, Wheaton 14

... and a modestly successful evening that took a bit of the embarrassment out of the afternoon debacle:

Augustana 30, Simpson 13
North Park 42, Ripon 41
Wash U 44, Rhodes 20

The Wheaton game was frustrating on every level. They have two weeks to figure it out because Auggie looks hungry again.

Gio had 59 yds rushing yesterday. He gets 100 yds rushing coming off the bus the last couple years. You got to go back to NCC game in 2022 for these kind of stats. I'm not counting games like against lower tier teams where he might not get carries. The Oshkosh announcers early on where like, "where's Gio?"

Quote from: WUPHF on September 06, 2024, 05:03:55 PMMy comment was pretty obviously trash talk rather than a thorough break down of the decision.

I read the story. It may be true that the CCIW is looking for the next full member. They may even have that member in mind.

In 2024 when even a Wittenberg appears at risk of closure and Millikin was in the Wall Street Journal reportage of schools at risk, it may well be time to add a full member.

I do think Aurora or Benedictine would make a good full member of the CCIW if they were interested.

Agree with those last two. They would fit well.

I should build on what I said yesterday. Benedictine likely won't ever become a CCIW member; BU has applied for CCIW membership before and been turned down, as its membership is actively opposed by more than one CCIW school. Aurora is a possibility if the CCIW ever gets around to considering a tenth member. Thing is, the CCIW presidents and athletic directors aren't considering a tenth full member at this time. It's not on the table at all. So, given how unlikely it is that a replacement for Wash U in terms of a football-only associate is unlikely, it's probable that once Wash U is gone the CCIW will go to a schedule in which the bye is alternated between the nine schools from Week 2 thru week 10.

"Maybe they should have invited in UChicago if they wanted a lesser opponent."  The article mentions a desirable number for scheduling purposes.  Who opposes North Park cutting its program and the CCIW adding U of C or ???  I endorse my proposal.

The we need to be in a position to add a 10th member was a far better cover than anything else they could have come up with.

It this was a dig at me, I'll need someone else to decipher.

I don't think so...he usually only bashes his alma mater.  I, for one, am pretty annoyed at the ouster of Wash U.  It's a classy program that puts out a good football product on a beautiful campus.  And a bit outside of the Chicagoland area so you get the full collegiate football program experience when you travel there vs. Wheaton, Elmhurst, North Park, etc.
I am a NATIONAL Champion, and I refuse to lose!

Thanks for saying that.

The affiliation was a win-win for WashU football for sure and a natural way to build on all the non-conference relationships that our other programs have with CCIW schools.

I hope we see non-conference match-ups with Wheaton and North Central after 2025.

I'm not seeing Trey Madsen on the North Central roster any longer. Is he no longer apart of the team?

They don't have any of their new transfers or incoming freshman on the roster at the moment. Not sure what happened, as they were all there in July.
You win! You always do!

I was not at the game, but the first thing that comes to mind, when you look at the box score and recaps (of both schools) is,   Adrian made halftime adjustments and Elmhurst either didn't and/or didn't make the right adjustments.  Once Adrian was up to speed, Elmhurst has little/no answer and it was not a good outcome.   Ugh1   :-\

The good news is they get a bye week to look at what went wrong and gear up for IWU.

It's a short sample of course, but appears CCIW's overall prowess is down this year.

Agreed. What the commish said in the article is true, but it's also a point that doesn't address the real reason why the CCIW is kicking out Wash U. But I admire Mo's diplomatic politesse. ;)

I understand why you're saying this but I'm cutting the other teams that lost some slack.

Look at who they played.

Carthage @ St. John's (What's the expectation here?)
IWU @ Central (IWU hung with them for awhile)
IC @ Millikin (IC is a 9-1 playoff team last year)

Augie, WashU, Carroll and NP win.
Wheaton was right there against a very good team.
