RMC 24-25 schedule is out: https://rmcathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule

Here's the article about it: https://rmcathletics.com/news/2024/9/9/mens-basketball-mens-hoops-announces-2024-25-schedule.aspx

This is the third season in a row that the Jackets have scheduled a non-conference game against an ODAC opponent. It was vs H-SC in 22-23, VWU last season, and H-SC again this season. I'm curious to know why.

Wouldn't you schedule two games against your archrival even if it isn't in the master schedule?

The only odd or disappointing thing to me is that both games will take place by the first week of December.

Never thought of it like that, but I guess my answer would be no if I were a coach and had anything to say about the schedule. I'd want to face as many different non-conference opponents as possible. I'd think there are lots of teams who'd love to get RMC on their schedule, so finding someone else shouldn't be a problem. The only way I'd do it is if there wasn't a good enough quality non-con opponent available on my open dates.

Many conferences don't play a full round robin anymore, so I don't see it being a mistake playing a conference opponent you only play once in conference as a NC game. The NESCAC does this on a regular basis. Williams and Amherst always play each other twice, among other annual non conference matchups. I remember UWSP played Oshkosh in a NC matchup, although not ideal because they play each other twice as conference opponents each year.

^^^Not saying it's a mistake. Just not the way I would do it if I were making the schedule.

Williams, Amherst and Wesleyan (CT) all play each other twice. It's known as "The Little Three" Usually the three Maine schools will play each other twice as well (Bowdoin, Bates and Colby). That's about it though.

Thanks. I had forgotten the name of it.

'82, since you've been on campus for football games, have you gotten any info on the freshmen for basketball?  Knowing you, I have no doubt you have.

Not much yet because ,#1, I didn't see Josh Merkel in YJ Club last weekend. With it being HOF weekend and my frat bro Dave Meleski '81 along with a number of other basketball alumni that weren't in attendance last weekend being there this weekend for the Berry game, I should have the scoop after this weekend.I'll keep you in the loop!

I will.....As far as I know we have a player coming back who tore his ACL last year that will be back. I kid who plays inside. The roster has not been updated yet even though the kids are back they haven't started practice yet that's why I need to talk to some guys this weekend to see who's back in school, who was recruited etc. I have tried over the summer to find out without a lot of success! The water should be unmuddy'ed after this weekend....lol

^^^ The returning injured player would be Liam Joyce, who looked promising as a freshman in 22-23.

I'm fairly sure there are 4 incoming freshmen, but that's all I have.

rmc1982
