Quote from: art76 on September 07, 2024, 11:17:09 PMSo Alma, Wheaton, and Trinity (TX) all lose above the Johnnies in this weekend's play. Are they a shoe-in for a top ten spot in the poll? And will River Falls be above or below them in the poll? Any thoughts before the top 25 poll is released?

Good question. Alma lost by 6 to River Falls so one thinks they don't drop as much. Johnnies should definitely jump Wheaton and Trinity.

Does Bethel pop into Top 25 without having played a game yet?

Time to eat my crow. I thought Carleton would cruise in California, but the offense never got off the plane. They return the majority of their starters and could only put up one touchdown against a team they scored 40+ on last year. I guess things aren't off to a smooth start with the new coordinator. Maybe I underrated the effect of travel?

New poll is out. Bethel sitting at 26.

St John's moved up 2 spots to #12 in the latest Top 25 poll. Wartburg fell one spot to #5. Bethel is the top vote getter outside of the Top 25.

I may be watching this week's game on delayed telecast. I'm road tripping to Adelaide with #2 and my niece for the Hawthorn v Port Adelaide final.

It's my first game at Adelaide Oval. The stadium had a big redevelopment seven or eight years ago and they kept the grassy hill at one end with the giant old school scoreboard that still has a guy sitting inside it changing the panels. It's supposed to be great atmosphere for a game.  Let's hope. And hope the Hawks keep winning.

Blood bath for the MIAC against the spread as the conference went 1-7 this week.

Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

The Oles and Pipers also won, but perhaps they "lost" against the spread?

It looks really bad when you actually dig into the numbers. Hamline and St. Olaf are the most favorable of the losses against the spread.

Hamline were favored by 30.5 and Crown beat the spread by only losing by 21.
St. Olaf was favored by 18.5 and Northwestern barely beat the spread by only losing by 18.

Here's where things get ugly:

Augsburg was favored by 3.5 and lost the game outright by 10.
Gustavus was favored by 3.5 and lost the game outright by an embarrassing 33 points.
Macalester was favored by 10.5 and lost outright by 1.
Carleton was favored by 10.5 and lost outright by 16.
Concordia was favored by 5.5 and lost outright by 11.

Consider this....UWW beat their two MIAC opponents by a combined score of 98-42 last season. The MIAC is down.

Those are 3 interesting early season games

Texas Ole

St. Olaf had a nice win last week.  They have been down for a few years now.  As for this week I think the game will be close.  This is going to be a huge rivalry game for both Luther and St. Olaf.

Honest question. Should Coach Killian and St Olaf have higher expectations? Their facilities are good and they provide a good education. What do the locals/admin think at this point? No disrespect, but competing with Northwestern and Luther seems like the Oles could be so much more.

OK, I've got nothing but respect for anyone who takes on the often thankless job of  D3 SID, especially at schools with nationally ambitious programs such as Wartburg (or SJU).

But I got a chuckle out of the Knights' preview stat report.

The Knights rank in the top 50 in 15 various national statistics. They are tied first in winning percentage (1.00) ...

Something tells me this just might be an automated program and not the amazing Logan Hansen moonlighting! ;)
