Quote from: Ron Boerger on September 12, 2024, 12:06:36 PMAnd there have been plenty of reports that some D3 schools simply won't schedule some of the ASC 4.

I'd be interested in knowing the reasons.

Is it the same reasons most of the ASC bolted to the SCAC?  Same reasons the SCAC doesn't plan to invite any of the ASC 4 to join the SCAC?

I can somewhat understand the reluctance of scheduling HSU and UMHB considering their domination.  But HPU and ETBU can't claim such domination.  In fact..they are very middle of the road.

So it can't be just about football domination.

Ideological?  I can't imagine all this being about tailgating and alcohol/alcohol sales at sporting events.  So it has to be other ideologies.

It's all so.... cryptic and clandestine and borderline nefarious.

Maybe I'm completely off base....but it certainly feels intentionally exclusionary.

wrong! everybody is scared to play UMHB!!  have you heard about all the D1 transfers that have "played" at 3 other colleges prior?  they are going to dominate everyone!!!  #whyD3

I'd drive my own Subaru down to Belton to watch D3FB's top program

You can troll all you want....but the fact remains that UMHB and HSU have completely dominated the ASC for the better part of 25 seasons.

IMHO....it's the #1 reason everyone bolted the ASC for the SCAC....and why 2 of the remaining ASC four end up in new conferences.....SOON.

Hey now, you can't leave ETBU out of dominating the ASC for softball! Lol, wife reminds me of that all the time...

Gotta be good at SOMETHING.....lol.

I'm a football fan.  And being an ETBU football fan is so frustrating.  We rarely have losing seasons.  Usually finish in the 6-4 range.  Not bad....but definitely not good.

Only 1 playoff appearance since 2000....and only 2 conference championships (1 shared).

It's like we've completely embraced mediocrity.  It's as if they have clearly accepted the fact that we can't compete against UMHB and HSU.  And more often than not....the games are rarely competitive.

Yet we will beat up on the rest of the (old) ASC.

Until someone decides to up the ante....I guess that's where we will stay.

The reality of us ending up in the SAC (NAIA) or in some weird coastal conference (SCIAC) or USA South alignment is going to force us to make some hard decisions about what kind of football program we want to be going forward.

I really thought yall were really close to turning that corner in the 15-17 time frame.

Hardin-Simmons is just embarrasing Curry, up 32-0 with nearly ten minutes still to go in the second quarter.  Two safeties on bad punt snaps, almost a third, a TD return on one of the free kicks, had another one on the other free kick called back due to holding, Curry is -20 total yards right now.

Backups they were able to travel should get some good PT in the second half.

With HSU having just wrapped up its 73-21 win at Curry, and only a few hours until kickoff in Belton tonight, thought I'd circle back on some of the discussion on Westgate Christian. I had the chance to talk with a member of their board of directors and their associate head coach earlier this week (link to article below). Didn't get every question answered with the amount of detail I had hoped, but did gain some insight on the institution and the football program in particular. Reminds me a lot of North American when NAU was starting out a few years ago, but I think the big difference here is in the limited academic offerings at WCU currently.

Well... I think that is as much lipstick as you could put on the pig. She's as pretty as she could get, but it's not intercollegiate athletics because it's not a college.

Hope the scrimmage is useful in some way and no one gets hurt.

Only "good" thing about this scrimmage is that we need some of the talent we brought in to get actual touches and reps.

Few guys we haven't seen much of that I'll be hoping to see:

Myller Royals - WR - Tx Tech (could be a #1 & offense needs help)
Jake Wright - QB - Pitt State
Jabari James - CB - Kilgore/Tulsa
Angelo Jewell - DE - Ventura CA (has the potential to be our best edge rusher)

Does not look like Westgate even has a full 58 to travel with, based on a quick count of sideline when camera zooms out.

tigerguy

Wow - perfect throw from Westgate QB on a deep ball and its 14-6 after a the PAT is blocked.

CruFrenzy

A pretend school and football team just threw an 86 yard bomb TD on our defense... lol this is just pathetic all around

Watching on my phone, is the Westgate Oline as hig in person as they look on my video feed?
