Cortland takes its second lead at 33-31 on E. Gallo TD run to finish 80 yard/six play maneuvers early in the final quarter. PAT misfires ....AGAIN. Cortland scores early in the third quarter for 27-24 lead. Susquehana quickly answers for 31-27 edge and that's where we are through three quarters. Boyes and Gallo legs key for RDragons.

Cortland within 24-20 at the half. Boyes runs in TD from short range in closing seconds ...BUT Balogna misses his first PAT kick of the season.

RDragons with their hands full at Susquehanna whose River Hawks taking apart RDragons' defense to take 14-0, 21-7 and 24-7. Cortland's AlphonoStjohn 101 yard kickoff return makes it 14-7. Hosts stretch it out before Boyes-led drives.
Sus qb J. Ehrlich tough hombre, particularly early.

Good audio .......no PFV for us!!!!!!

I just need to say this:

Fisher's uniforms are awful. Maroon/cardinal helmets, black jerseys, white pants? It looks like they're wearing parts of three different uniform combinations.

Cortland lead sliced to 40-38 after going up 40-31 with 2:20 left at Susquehanna. Less then 30 seconds left ......Sus with onsides kick that goes out of bounds. RDragons win.
    Boyes 12x20 passing, 190 yards ...18/110, 2 TDs running. Gallo 27/158, 3 TDs.
J. Zeva 9/117 receiving. AlphonoStjohn 101 yd. kickoff TD return.
    Sus qb J. Ehrlich 19x33, 314 yds, 4 TDs
Corts with 439 total yards (257 running), Sus 450 yards (314 passing)

Quite the comeback from deficits as much as 17. Boyes arm and legs along with sophomore E. Gallo running gets it done. Gallo scores late TD from short yardage following exchange of turnovers -- only two fumbles in the game. Huge defensive play when N. Lardaro forces Sus qb fumble and M. Llewellyn recovers after RDragons fumble ball away in the end zone looking to seal things on drive that included 4th-and-1 go-for-it ON OWN 36. Boyes picks up two.

Congrats to SJF on getting the win today, albeit with some ugly ass uni's lol.

Congrats to Brockport coming back from an early deficit to get a nice W as well.

I admittedly, like XRED wrote the Red Dragons off when I saw they were down 24 to 7. What a great comeback and victory. I don't have game specifics but from what I've read Boyes and Gallo kept the fight and the D gave them enough windows to out score what seems to be yet again a very strong Susquehanna team. Congrats!

Congrats to the Red Dragons on their win against Sasquatch. An epic battle.

Never write off the team with the best QB in the country.

Is Alfano StJohn just...not on offense anymore though? 5 kick returns, one being a TD...and one touch on offense?

It doesn't look like they need help at RB, but that's surprising

XREDDRAGON77

He's been playing one of the receiver positions and the first 2 weeks had some pretty good numbers! He left the game Saturday according to the radio broadcast.

Great article by Greg on the Dragons! 1 week at a time and trust the process. On to the next one!

Appreciate that, XRD.  It's interesting how Fitzpatrick shuffled the deck after winning it all last year- a bold move for sure.  I don't know that just everybody who wins a championship has the minerals to reposition an A-A RB like that.  Most of us default to an if-it-ain't-broke mentality.

My (not so) very bold prediction for AlfanoStJohn, who has been a wide receiver for three whole games, is that he'll be fine and eventually pretty dangerous.  If people think Fitzpatrick and Boyes aren't going figure out how to be successful with JASJ as a receiver by the time November comes around, people haven't really been paying attention.

Look, I have always respected Fisher, but that loss was not a great performance from the coaching staff. Up 21-7 late in the third, you're running the ball well, and then you throw a pick on 1st down to give them a short field and make it 21-14.

Okay, but Fisher rebounds, puts a drive together, and then with 6:54 to go, and facing a 4th and 2 from the two — so essentially an extra point, which Fisher was 9-for-9 on to that point in the season — they go for it and lose 6 yards, rather than make it a two-score game against a team that had completed 7 passes all game.

Yeah, I know they'd missed a FG from 24 earlier. Kicking there is still the right call.

The rest of it just made me feel bummed for Fisher. The defense had it at 3rd and 8, and it looked like they were going to survive in spite of the decisions from the sidelines. But they got gashed. The last pick six just...ugh. I feel for Cardinal fans. They should have won that game, and they just gave it away.

Ethan Gallo was also a 2x NYS champion in wrestling at 220lbs. That kid is like a real life terminator. With his hip control and demeanor, stopping him is going to be tough! He's no slouch!

It's looking like a 3 win season for the Cardinals this year. Truly a sad state of affairs.

Never mind the fact that only four of the Empire 8 teams were in action on Saterday, Sept. 28, and the three others lost their games, the SAXONS swept the E8 football honors for the week!!

FOOTBALL
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Alexander Coffey, Alfred, Jr., TE, Columbia, MD/Long Beach
Coffey was an all-around standout for the Saxons in their 45-15 win over visiting Catholic University on Saturday, scoring three total touchdowns. Coffey was the go-to option on short yardage plays, subbing in as a wildcat quarterback, rushing five times for 18 yards as he totaled two rushing touchdowns. He was also targeted once for a 37-yard touchdown catch, Alfred's longest passing play of the day. Coffey added one assisted tackle on a kickoff.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Adam Mietz, Alfred, Sr., DB, Akron, NY/Akron
Mietz intercepted two passes and added four tackles, helping lead Alfred to a 45-15 win over Catholic University on Saturday. His first interception came at a crucial time, jumping in front of a screen pass late in the first quarter, causing the first turnover of the game with a two-yard interception return. Mietz's second interception was an 80-yard pick-six for a touchdown as he opened the scoring floodgates in the third quarter, giving the Saxons a 17-3 edge.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Dion Anderson, Alfred, So., WR/KR, Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution
Anderson returned a kick 95 yards for a touchdown in Alfred's 45-15 win over Catholic University during Homecoming Weekend Saturday. After Catholic scored to make it 24-9 in the third quarter, Anderson quelled the visitors' momentum with a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown to make it 31-9 Saxons. He totaled 153 yards on three kick returns while adding five receptions for 26 yards. He was previously the E8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16.

And, thanks to Pat Coleman for the shout out with his alma mater playing at Alfred...and the D3football.com honors for Alex Coffey, AU junior tight end, who scored three TDs for AU.

TE Alex Coffey, Jr., Alfred

The transfer junior was the go-to option on short yardage plays, subbing in to take direct snaps, rushing five times for 18 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He was targeted once for a 37-yard touchdown catch and it was the longest passing play of the day.
