If bates is a team which beat a team which beat a team which were conference co-champions, is it indicative of this being the most random conference in d3 football?

One could say that the league is very balanced overall and that no one is that much better than other because they play by the same rules. Another person might say that everyone is pretty average and no one is really that good.

I can almost say that it gets pretty bland playing the same opponents every year. Like perhaps it doesn't condition you to adapt as well if you had OOC games.

Hello,
I am Parker Huynh-Benningfield. A specialist at Bates and aspiring producer in the film and sports industry. During preseason camp, I created a "Hard Knocks" style documentary covering the people under the helmet at Bates College.

Here is the video:

I would love to hear any feedback you may have about it. If you have any questions about the doc, I would be happy to talk more about it.

In my opinion it puts a bigger emphasis on preparation and having a strong game plan. It's fun to see how teams try to fool each other when they've all played one another every year for decades and know each other well.

And the uniquely exciting aspect of the NESCAC is that there is no such thing as an OOC tune-up game or a bye week. The championship is potentially on the line starting with the first snap of the season and then every single week after.

I was at the Bates - Wesleyan game and was impressed by the effort of the Bobcats in all three phases of the game. Defense was very strong and made some key stops deep in their own territory. The offense hit on a few big plays, Lynskey had an excellent game and the special teams were impressive as well with a late field goal to push the lead to a two score margin again. Congrats to Coach Coyne and the team for a big win on the road!

For the Cardinals, Candido and Wilson are a dangerous connection, and the Wes O-Line gave their Candido time and space to work his magic. Special shoutout to Villano for the Wes D as #6 was always around the ball making plays.

The game day experience is always outstanding in Middletown and it was also awesome to see the Bates families travel so well.

Bowdoin at Williams – close Williams W
Wesleyan at Hamilton – not close Wesleyan W
Trinity at Tufts -  not close Trinity W
Midd at Amherst – close Midd W
Bates at Colby – close Colby W

BTY- who else is in contention for ROY besides Nye from Colby? Currently, my $$ is on him to earn that award.

Glad to see a new NESCAC poster! I have seen so many people attempt to register for D3boards.com from Trinity and Williams in the past couple weeks but I have yet to see any of those posters materialize, whether here or on the soccer or basketball boards. If you know people who are trying to register, maybe let them know that they need to use a legitimate email address and that they might need to check their junk folder or promotions or spam in order to get the confirmation email with the link they need to click to be confirmed.

Not to correct you, but we think you meant Wilson and not Walsh...pretty sure you had a better time on Saturday than we did.

Thanks Maple. We think that pretty much most of us would agree that's what makes the NESCAC so special, why we are all so passionate about the league, and why we wouldn't want it any other way.

2024 NESCACMAN Week 3 Power Rankings

Welcome to the Week 3 Power Rankings for the week of September 30, 2024.

NESCACMAN goes 4-1 with our picks for week #3 and we now stand at 13-2 for the year.

In our weekly rankings, Hartford State is the sole undefeated team remaining in the NESCAC as Williams, Amherst, and Wesleyan all lost. The Bantams remain our #1 ranked team in the NESCAC headed into week #4. Not a stellar day for the Little 3. Wesleyan remains in the #2 spot despite their loss since they have beaten both of the two teams ranked directly behind them. In other changes to our rankings, Middlebury moves up one spot off their 2nd win of the year. Williams moves down one spot because of their large loss at Hartford State. Bowdoin moves up because of their first win. Amherst moves down on their first loss. UBates moves up on their big win against Wesleyan. Colby moves down one spot off their 3rd loss to start the year.

Some details on "NESCACMAN"...we share a love for all things NESCAC, but especially football, with our fellow boardsters. We love everything about NESCAC...the history, traditions, rivalries, quirky rituals, passion, student-athletes, coaches, students, parents, alumni, tailgates, fields of play, et cetera. Each week, we will present our power rankings and then later in the week overviews, predictions, and spreads on every NESCAC game every week. There will also be some special reports along the way. Please note, we try to be as objective and honest as possible (maybe with a slight tinge of red and black). Our opinions stated here are solely those of NESCACMAN and are not the views or opinions of any institution in the NESCAC or the League itself.

We also co-host a podcast titled "Nine Weeks: A NESCAC Football Podcast"  along with Chris Grace, the longtime play-by-play voice of the Wesleyan Football Cardinals. Available weekly, the podcast is available on YouTube and Spotify. Please follow us and take a listen. Episode 3 is available now (featuring interviews with Williams College Head Coach Mark Raymond and Current New Hampshire and former Wesleyan WR Logan Tomlinson). Episode 4 will be available later this week and will feature UBates Head Coach Matt Coyne and a player TBD. Should be another great watch/listen. Our weekly show features coach and player interviews, game analysis, rankings, previews, and predictions.

1). Hartford State Bantams (Record: 3-0; Last Week Rank: 1; 10 first place votes): The Bants come away with a big win in the Coop taking sole possession of first place in the NESCAC. The Ephs jumped out to a 14-0 lead before Hartford State responded with 45 unanswered points. Ephs would have needed a lot more than 10 points to cover the spread against HS. Bants were led by QB Zander Zembrowski who tossed 4 TD's and Nolan O'Brien who had over 200 yards receiving and 3 TDs. The Bants amassed almost 500 yards of total offense against the Eph D. Meanwhile, the HS defense had 4 sacks and an interception. Hartford State travels to Medford this week to play the Jumbo's in an important week #4 match-up.

2). Wesleyan Cardinals (Record: 2-1; Last Week Rank: 2): Despite the tough loss to UBates, the Cards remain at #2 (because they have beaten both the #2 and #3 ranked teams in our rankings). Tough loss for Wesleyan at home. Hats off to the Frisky Kitties for playing hard and getting it done for Coach Coyne against his alma matter. Keys to the loss included not punching it in from the 1-yard line on fourth down, 2 dropped TD passes in the end zone, several turnovers, and big plays all led to the loss. But at the end of the day, despite outgaining UBates on the day and controlling the clock, UBates came away with their first overall win since 2022, first win against Wesleyan since 2005, and first win in Middletown since 1981. Third loss in three years for Wesleyan to a C-B-B team having lost to Bowdoin in 2022, Colby in 2023, and UBates this year. This week Wesleyan travels to Clinton to face Hamilton.

3). Tufts Jumbo's (Record: 2-1; Last Week Rank: 3): Tufts bounces back with a big win at home against the Lord Mammoths. The story of the day was the Tufts defense. It was strong limiting Amherst to 8 first downs, 119 total yards, 25 yards rushing on 17 attempts, and 3 interceptions. Michael Berlutti threw his first TD pass of the year and ran for two more TDs. DB Will Duncanson had 2 INTs for Tufts and Jaden Richardson's brother, Ty, had another INT for Tufts. This week Tufts will host Hartford State in a key NESCAC game this week at Ellis Oval.

4). Middlebury (Record: 2-1; Last Week Rank: 5): Despite being outgained, Middlebury comes away with the win at home against Colby. Tied at the half, Middlebury scored two second half TDs to pull out the win. Second straight week they came from behind in the second half. The Panthers defense had 4 sacks and was +1 in the turnover department. MID QB Brian Moran tossed 2 TDs and WR Patrick Jamin had another big day with 2 TD catches. DL Tomas Kenary excelled on the defensive side of the ball with 2 TFL, 1.5 sacks and 2 QB hurries. Middlebury goes on the road this week to face the Lord Mammoths in Amherst.

5). Williams Purple Cows (Record: 2-1; Last Week Rank: 4): Williams loses to the Bantams after jumping out to a 14-0 lead. QB Owen McHugh didn't throw a TD pass for the first time this year, threw a pick 6, and was sacked four times. The Ephs host Bowdoin this week at home.

6). Bowdoin Polar Bears (Record: 1-2; Last Week Rank: 7): Bowdoin moves up one spot in the rankings based on their first win of the year against Hamilton. Bowdoin defense played well again, was +2 in turnovers, and had 3 sacks. DT/LB Koy Price had another big game leading the Polars defense with 2.5 TFL, 2 sacks, and an interception for a TD. Bowdoin went back to a one quarterback system and Robbie Long responded with 3 TD passes, no INTS, 279 yards passing, and was the Polars leading rusher. Tougher test for the Polars this week as they go on the road to face Williams.

7). Amherst Lord Mammoths (Record: 2-1; Last Week Rank: 6): The Lord Mammoths drop to 2-1 moving down one spot in our rankings with a resounding loss to Tufts on the road. Amherst offense looked very similar to what we saw in 2022 and 2023. Amherst replaced QB and reigning NESCAC OPOTW Mason Morrow with John Collier. Another tough game this week as the Lord Mammoths host Middlebury.

8). University of Bates Bobcats (Lewiston Campus)(Record: 1-2; Last Week Rank: 9): Big win for UBates against the previously unbeaten Cardinals winning for the first time since November of 2022. As a result, they move up one spot in our rankings. RB Ryan Lynskey, who leads the NESCAC in rushing, ran for over 100 yards and had two rushing TDs including a 59 yarder. WR Ryan Gleason had the longest TD reception in UBates football history. They only threw 8 passes all day but were incredibly efficient competing seven of them for 137 yards. On defense, LB Ryan Rozich starred. #1 receiver, Sergio Beltran, returned for the Kitties. UBates heads to Waterville this week to kick-off the C-B-B championship against Colby.

9). Colby Mules (Record: 0-3; Last Week Rank: 8): Mules lose their third game in 2024 against Middlebury in Vermont. Game was tied at half-time before Middlebury pulled away in the second half scoring 2 unanswered TDs before Colby scored as time was expiring. Colby outgained the Panthers 376 to 340 yards and had more first downs (18 to 14). That is the second straight week they were on the losing side of the ledger while outgaining the competition. Colby QB Miles Drake threw for 214 yards and a TD. WR Duke Ferrara had 10 catches and RB Keon Smart ran for 48 yards and chipped in 8 catches. LB Sebastien Romain led the defense with 9 tackles including 1 for loss and 1 sack. Colby hosts the Frisky Kitties this week Saturday night under the lights in the first game in the 2024 version of the
C-B-B.

10). Hamilton Continentals (Record: 0-3; Last Week Rank: 10): Another loss for the Continentals and it appears to go from bad to worse as starting QB Henry Rubey replaced Luke Kurzum. Hamilton scored first again this week and was tied with the Polar Bears in the 3rd quarter before giving up the lead. P Tighe Hoey continues to star for the Conts averaging 45 yards on 4 punts, including a 70 yarder, and putting 3 punts inside the 20. For the season, he's average nearly 46 yards per punt. This week, Hamilton will face what is sure to be an angry Wesleyan squad at home in Clinton.

NESCACMAN Offensive Player(s) of the Week: Nolan O'Brien, Hartford State/Ryan Lynskey, UBates

NESCACMAN Defensive Player(s) of the Week: Koy Price, Bowdoin

NESCACMAN Special Teams Player(s) of the Week: Tighe Hoey, Hamilton

Excellent job Parker! Job well done. We hope you got an A+!
Im glad you enjoy it.

This was not made for a class, therefore did not get a grade. I made this documentary for the guys on the team. Something for us to look back on when our playing days are over. Additionally, my dream would be to produce and create sports documentaries for a career, or work in film and entertainment. This was to get some more practice in all facets of production.

I am glad you enjoyed it.
