Jung didn't make the team of the week but I reckon he had to be close.

He's made it so many times now and is only a sophomore so he'll need to start playing Superman games to get on the list.  Something like 14 tackles, 11 solo and 2 TFLs, a forced fumble and a pick-six returned for 86 yards, and an additional 69-yard TD reception on offense.  Against the #5 team in the country.

MAYYYYBE when he puts a game like that together then he can be considered for the TOTW again.

He wasn't nominated this week, and I agree, that's a great stat line. Sometimes schools don't nominate players when they lose, and sometimes schools don't nominate defensive players when they give up 45 points. Whatever reason Bethel chose not to nominate, I'm not worried, because I'm sure he'll have many more chances.

An embarrassment of riches with this guy.  If he was my brother then I would have been lucky if mum remembered my name.

I think his older brother is a starting safety for NDSU. Their mum may have a tough choice on favorites.

Quick comment on Jung from Bethel......he is a seriously good player that will likely be the target of several teams in higher divisions after the season.  His brother is a senior starter for NDSU (as mentioned above) and I would not be surprised if the Horned Cows here in Fargo make an attempt to secure his skills.

Based on what I have visually seen in the first three games of the season it would appear that SJU has grown/developed a sense of disdain for allowing teams to hang around with them (most recent seasons as evidence) and plan to dismantle and destroy the teams on their schedule, most importantly in division.  I don't believe complacency will be a problem for this group and I look forward to a long and healthy season for them.

Would be a downer to lose Jung - but I could see that being the case!  At least we'll have had some time to enjoy him on the roster, if it does come to that.

I think you're probably right about SJU - even with the expanded playoffs - Everyone who was part of last year's team most likely took a lesson away with them after the Gustavus loss, and isn't going to drop a game to an inferior opponent like that again this year.

Agreed...I'm interested to see how the SJU defense plays against Augsburg and Gustavus. The Auggie didn't manage to score a point against the Gustie last week. A focused and dialed in Johnnie should be able to be able to keep Auggie from scoring the 24 points, and Gustie the 35 points they scored last year.

Not sure he'll move on. He's already transferred once and seems to be invested at BU.

No offense meant to Auggie fans, but I hope we get an extended look at backup QB(s) and O line especially. With all seniors up front, we need to see what the future holds. Looking at the roster, there are some "Big Boys" on the sidelines as well as starting. Hopefully, they are not JUST big.

Anyone need tix for Saturday's SJU game?  My 4 are available, and I'd prefer that someone can use them.  Shoot me a PM and I can send them to you.

I would like to see the Johnnies rush for upwards of 200 yards on Saturday.  I think the Auggies will do everything they can to take away/limit the Johnnie passing game.  Syverson and the OC's might want to swallow the passing pride and work on the run game.  This might also then benefit them down the road.

Agree with this. Your Oline is the unsung hero of this team. You're running the ball more effectively than I can remember in a long time.

MIAC games week 5

Last week the Skyline Division hosted the games, this week the Northwoods teams play host in the second week of cross divisional play. Three eggs were laid last week, which I failed to realize until getting ready to post this. I've been home sick as a dog having gotten the crud and thought I should try to post today.

Game 1 - blowout of the week - Augsburg at St. John's - the Auggies will most likely lay another egg this week.

Game 2 - the other two teams that laid eggs last week get to play one another this week, so at least one of them will score points this week - Macalester goes up to St. Scholastica. Actually, I think both teams will score points, but I think the Saints will score more than the Scots.

Game 3 - Hamline travels to St. Olaf, the only other undefeated team in the MIAC. The Oles should be able to keep that true for another week.

Game 4 - Bethel at Gustavus. I would think the Gusties are thinking they stand a chance in this game after watching the film from last week's loss to the Johnnies by BU. I also think the Royals double down in intensity moving forward so they can see the Johnnies again in the last week of MIAC play and pull out the win.

Game 5 - GOTW - Some would probably pick the previous game, but I expect that Concordia traveling down to Carleton will be the better game. Both the Cobbers and the Knights are wanting to improve their cred in the MIAC. I don't know who will win this game, but they both play the Gusties late in the season. If things go chalk for the remainder of the season, and the winner of this game also wins their game against the Gusties, they would claim 3rd position in the MIAC. More going on in this game in just the second week of conference play. Of course, the Oles probably want to have something to say about all of this as well. This year promises to be interesting as these four teams play out.
