Quote from: Redtooth on October 02, 2024, 03:35:11 PMQuick comment on Jung from Bethel......he is a seriously good player that will likely be the target of several teams in higher divisions after the season.  His brother is a senior starter for NDSU (as mentioned above) and I would not be surprised if the Horned Cows here in Fargo make an attempt to secure his skills.

Based on what I have visually seen in the first three games of the season it would appear that SJU has grown/developed a sense of disdain for allowing teams to hang around with them (most recent seasons as evidence) and plan to dismantle and destroy the teams on their schedule, most importantly in division.  I don't believe complacency will be a problem for this group and I look forward to a long and healthy season for them.

Would be a downer to lose Jung - but I could see that being the case!  At least we'll have had some time to enjoy him on the roster, if it does come to that.

I think you're probably right about SJU - even with the expanded playoffs - Everyone who was part of last year's team most likely took a lesson away with them after the Gustavus loss, and isn't going to drop a game to an inferior opponent like that again this year.

Not sure he'll move on. He's already transferred once and seems to be invested at BU.
I think he should take any opportunity presented to him to play at a higher level.  (I would prefer to NOT see him the next two years.)

St John's may move up in the next poll! UW-Platteville upset UW-La Crosse, 30-27 in OT!

WIAC looks like its typical meat grinder. I don't think anyone emerges unscathed.

I was more interested in checking out the Duluth foliage than the game ... but what a wild final two minutes in Mac vs. CSS. Video, however, was barely watchable.

CSS goes up 14 with 1:54 to play and needs a FG with time expiring to win 30-28.

OzJohnnie

Nice win by the Johnnies.  I'm just settling down now to watch the replay.  I did wake at 5am and watched a few minutes but that bed is too warm.

Our secondary looks better than last year but is still leaky.  The offence will need to stay hot and keep up the scoreboard pressure for us to go deep, I think.

13 penalties for 123 yards.  That's terrible.

Nice win by the Cobbers today (31-6)....the defense continues to impress. Neither team came off as inspired, and this was echoed by the in game announcer who could not possibly been more droll. For whatever reason, Concordia has had a remarkably tough time getting past the Knights in recent seasons, so a decisive, albeit methodically dull victory was welcome. Only one real highlight... a 55 yard absolute beauty of a pick 6 in the 3rd quarter. Love that Carleton still charges no admission, and they serve up some fine grilled brats. Too bad 90% of Laird was empty on a beautiful homecoming day.
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

Talk about a balanced attack for SJU today!  34 rushes for 249 yards and 24-35-0 for 256 yards through the air.

And 2 net yards rushing for Auggie Tech.  :o

Unless something unforeseen comes up, I plan on taking my wife & daughter up to Northfield in 2 weeks to cheer on the Johnnies at Carleton after St John's squares off with the Cobbers next weekend! A little over a 4 hour drive for us to get to Northfield. Didn't realize that Carleton doesn't charge admission! Will have to sample a brat! Thanks for the info!

While Cobber faithful, I live in the south metro, so away games are my home games and I get out to them as able. If it's a nice day in two weeks in Northfield, you might want to stop by the Contented Cow for a cold one right downtown with a patio overlooking the river. fun vibe. As for the SJU vs Concordia matchup next week, I never count the Cobbs out to pull off the unexpected. If the offense can have enough success to at least allow the defense to stay fresh it could be a tight, lower scoring game. I don't think the offense is finely tuned enough yet to keep up with the Johnnies otherwise.

I'll be curious to hear what the Johnnie pack thinks of Concordia's new helmets. Just guessing they will be well received....

Will make note of the Contented Cow! It's been a few years since being in Northfield, but do remember how pretty it is! I don't think I've attended a game at Carleton, but know I've driven by their field. I have attended a St John's game in Northfield against St Olaf. Augsburg actually scored first today to go up 7-0 & was knotted up at 14 at one point so wouldn't surprise me if your Cobbers put up a fight & keep it competitive! Seems like always along wait between games & then they're over!

How do we allow auggie to score 20? GAC shut them out last week. I'm sure the penalties had some to do with that. I was at a wedding and only watched snippets of the game.

I'd guess SJU had the opposite response BU had. We didn't play our best and then had a key matchup to follow. Came out dialed in. SJU Played a near flawless game and had a team they knew wasn't the top of the league. As much as coaches preach "take no one lightly" there's a human element that's sometimes inescapable.

I'm not reading too much into your Augsburg result.

I also think after Saturday, GAC isn't as good as I expected, BU is better than we looked last week, and SJU still looks like a #1 seed.
