Am I insane for thinking it should be more obvious than this?

The Third Division over simplifying something in an attempt to disparage Mount Union? I am shocked.

if you are extremely desperate to become relevant in the tiny world of D3 football "media", going after the top program/brand is one way to get clicks.  I don't know that very many Raiders' fans are going to get too fired up about a meaningless poll.  I'd say that he should stick to twitter, but he's somehow even worse at that

Congrats to Coach Candle, great guy, tremendous coach!

Maybe I'm far off here, but I think that nearly everybody but the scorekeeper views the Otterbein game as a loss. "A win is a win" has no business being said at Mount Union.

Regular season losses don't take place at Mount very often, so lets take a look at the most recent examples (there's only like 2 in a million years)

2005 - the great LK loses a game in the rain to ONU.  Pierre Garcon was limited with a hand injury and Nate Kmic was still a rarely used freshman, but Mount really had no business losing to ONU. It was like a funeral on campus on Monday.  But the Raiders bounced back, won out and were faced with going on the road in the post season.  Thankfully, Capital knocked off NCC and Wabash, and the Raiders went on to beat Capital at home in the quarters and eventually beat UWW for a National Championship

2016 - Mount gets knocked off by JCU in a classic week 11 game.  JCU was a loaded team and ended up parading a NCAA Semi-Finalist trophy (who knew that was a thing?) around campus.  The Raiders still make the playoffs but have to go through a road gauntlet of weird east coast schools in the first three rounds (Johnny Hopkins, Alfred & somebody else). The Raiders season ends in a 14-12 non-contest to a cheating program.  But VK led his team (on it's third true freshman QB) to the semi's and then won a Natty the next season.

LK and VK both took one on the chin, got back up and led their teams further than any Raiders' fans or the "national" media thought was possible those years.  I'm sure that "Mount Union was dead" after ONU in '05, and again in '16 in the "national" media.  But the coaching staffs and leaders on those teams would not allow the program to fall.  It's gut check time in Alliance. If Dartt is ever going to prove anything other than "the standard is the standard", then it starts now.  Nobody is going to care about beating Wilmington by 60-70 for homecoming, but the attitude, effort and energy has to flip

Time for me to paddle an expired equine:  I agree.  Undefeated in the OAC doesn't mean anything if you can't put away the MIAA champ at home in the second round.

Genius Geoff should start by not missing at least one XP/FG per game, not having to take a TO because of too many men on the field/have the defense for at least one series look like they're perpetually confused pre-snap, not get too cute on a kickoff (when they got to KO from the 50 this past Saturday that ball should have been sent to about Zanesville, not shorted like that), and the newest trend to the coaching malpractice seen every week:  the inexcusable underuse of Tyler Echeverry.  He gets carries early on, cannot be stopped, then you don't see him until the middle of the 4th quarter.  Chosen One - you're supposed to rest your starters *after* you score 40+ on them.  I understand there are other talented backs that deserve some totes, and I am not taking away from their efforts, but just as it was Kmic Kmic Kmic until the game was one, am I crazy in thinking this should be the same with some changeup sprinkled in?

I have lived in FL since 2003.

I attended the 2005 ONU loss and 2016 JCU losses in Alliance.  I also attended the home loss to MHB in the playoffs.

I have banned myself from attending any more games of significance at MTU.

Milton is headed directly for us right now. We live in Pasco County, just North of Tampa.  We are about 12 miles inland and not in an evacuation zone.

Our neighborhood is newer, has underground utilities, and we are on the same power grid as the county jail, so we are rarely without power for long.

We have been lucky so far and are hoping to stay that way.

Thank you for the concern!

The game Saturday reminds me of the 2010 game at Marietta where a supremely more talented Mount team stumbled to a 28-14 win. That team ended up in the Stagg Bowl.

I finally got to watch the game tonight (our Game last Friday was rescheduled to Saturday, thus I couldn't watch Mount live).

Regarding  the Short Kickoff from the 50.  If the Kicker sends the Kick to "Zanesville" then Otterbein get's the ball on the 25.  The result on the Pooch Kick was Otterbein with the ball on the 20.  I'm not too upset about that.

On the Interception in the 3rd Quarter in the Endzone: Bad throw to the inside.  On the play prior, it appeared that if Beaudrie pulls the ball, he could have walked into the endzone.

On the Interception in the 4th Quarter, Beaudrie was getting greedy.  The underneath WR was open.

I am in agreement that Mount needs to get the ball to Echeverry early and often.  Get this kid 15+ carries a game.  Get other RBs carries, once the game is in hand.

It looks like Mount is getting too "cutesy" with all their motions. shifts, etc.  Find your offensive identity and stick with it.

Defense wasn't as bad as I expected.  They play well in spurts.  They definitely looked confused when Otterbein went hurry up.  There seems to be a lot of WR open when Ott was keeping a TE and RB in to block.

I'm not in the "sky is falling" crowd, but there are definitely many areas for improvement before we play Marietta.

I've seen them run an Orbit Motion, and have the Slot WR fake a block and then slip into an intermediate route that has worked twice in the past couple of games.  They also overloaded one side and ran QB Counter Trey to the week side that was sick.

Hopefully they find their identity soon and stick with it!

Captainred81

I took 2 days to cool off...didn't work.

This game was uninspiring to say the least.

I have issues with the 4 and 1 at the goal line.  Every team gets stuffed once in a while, and every team makes a bad play call.  I can think of one... NCC two point conversion, I'm sure that head coach wishes he chose a different play.  I can't stomach that against a winless team in the first quarter.  They average 6-7 yards per carry, and walk away with nothing...

Other issues
A)  Almost no adjustments.  When your team is not playing well (I accept it happens), and the other team seems to be playing their best (up for debate)...change.  You have to, you have to change.  When the other team is taking 2 inch splits and running the ball up the middle for 6-7 yards at a pop, every play... You have to change.  Some one said it already, add a d tackle in there. Change coverage, move personnel around.  Take someone out if you need to.
B)  Play calling and Echeverry ... we have discussed this, but c'mon.  I also like the other athletes, but #0 is on a different level.  You can see it immediately, he's faster and stronger and more experienced and more prepared.  Please give him ths ball... A lot.  Also, the other team plays with a free safety in the middle, the deep throw down the middle is covered.  However, the seams available.  Please read the defenses.

The good news is that they can play, and coach better.  We've seen it.  They have talent and athletes.

Next week, I would like to see the this team come out ready to play, excited and jacked up.  Put pressure on the QB from the start, man up on some of the wide outs and lets get a turnover.  Fly around, get crazy!!!

Offense, put it together, talk to each other.  Know the plan, use the run to open the pass, high percentage runs, and throws on third down and short yardage.  Control the game

Stay safe!  It will likely be a tough week for some of the FL Raiders players, hopefully focusing on the meaningless sport of football can give them a little reprieve from much more serious things going on in their families lives

That's a pretty good comp. Great teams can stumble, that was also the pre-spread offense days when 28-14 was was a bit of a different score than it is today.

Dartt has had more stumbles than Stagg Bowls though

Why still no OC for Mount? It does not take a rocket scientist to determine that this has
been a problem for 4 years. I do not understand why LK did to influence this requirement?
Also, why are some of the better Raider coaches still there versus looking for other opportunities.

I think if you look deep into your question , you may find your answer . Why didn't Larry Kerhes leave  ? If you have been following. Which I believe you have been You know Larry's reasons . I don't know why some coaches stay,, some move on. I can only give this example . We  were recently on a trip . When I  see a Iowa St. shirt I ask them whey haven't they fired their football coach yet ? My question is totally tough in cheek. I have yet to find a Iowa St. fan that hasn't stood up for Cambell. But the answer that most give me is.    Because he wants to be there. Be a part of the community . Which I believe is a part of why coaches stay at Mount. I asked the same person why he thought Campbell hasn't left Iowa for  more money.? He believed that Matt would be there until his kids had finished school. It's may be just one reason  but it may be one of many reasons that these men stay in Alliance.
