Ok, I see the natives are getting restless for the annual "Last Furnace Turn On" contest!

Eligibility: You must reside in a Canada facing cone from northern Iowa, west up through eastern Dakotas and east including the entire state of Wiscy. Extra credit if the people that live around you say ""eh" or "You betcha" alot. (That would indicate if Canada invades you are on the front lines)

Rule #1: On the honor system, if your home thermostat is turned to "heat" and your machine in the basement kicks in firing up the fossil fuels to blow heat throughout the domicile you must post on here that you are out!

Rule #2: Heat producing fireplaces, electric heaters etc. are considered the same as the Rheem, Amana or whatever in your basement. Basically, if you are enjoying any source of heat in your home besides the sunshine through your window or your hot wife, you are out of the competition.

Now, I will caution any rookies to this competition,it is not to be taken lightly. We have veterans to this that will challenge the very extremes of household comfort.

Exclusions: Any heat you enjoy in your car, at your friends, at work etc does not count. This competition turf is your domicile where you call home.

Good luck! We have a multiple time champ in Duffman that will once again be tough to beat, although last years champ is from up by Fargo-Moorhead I believe, which is impressive to say the least. I can't remember his handle on here. ?

That being said, "I'm Out!" Never a contender but always warm.  ;D

It's been mild so far but looks to cool down this weekend.  Game on!

I'd better be careful how I respond to this in case, although unlikely, she ever sees this! LOL! I like the way you think! Anything to increase the abysmal odds of receiving some loving!

I'm here for the fight on the furnace, but I feel like Duff always goes like 10 days past when my wife would institute martial law if we didn't warm the house up.

To date, it has been very comfortable...we've had some warm days sprinkled in regularly enough that get the house warm enough that the cool days haven't been problematic.

Boys of Fall

Here's the difference between the male mind and the female mind.
My wife goes into an office everyday and I work from home.  When she gets home at the end of the day within ten minutes it's either too hot or too cold.  My response is always the same, "I hadn't noticed."

Now that my daughter is at St. Ben's, this could help keep the furnace off longer. However, it's fall break this weekend through Tuesday and she will be home and the temps are supposed to drop.

I am too lazy to make a poll. Which is more enjoyable, that sweet spot when you don't have to run the air conditioning or furnace? Or that sweet spot in the year when you are done mowing and don't have to shovel/blow snow yet?

Week 6 MIAC Games

Blowout game is Macalester at Bethel. The #1 Rush defense could conceivably get back into the negative numbers with this game.

St. Scholastica at Gustavus has a tiny bit of intrigue, but the Gusties should bounce back with a win at home.

St. John's heads up I-94 to Concordia, to take on the Cobbers with the new helmets. The Johnnies should be able to take care of bid'ness.

This week we have two rivalry games with traveling trophies as Augsburg and Hamline vie for The Hammer, and Carleton and St. Olaf vie for The Goat, and the twisting of the beak on the eagle in the middle of town. Both of these games should be pretty good in the sense of not being too one sided. I'm going to side with the Pipers and the Knights to take the trophies back to their respective schools.

(I won't get to watch any of the festivities as I'll be down in Mankato launching rockets with 150 Scouts - should be a hoot!)

This is why on those extra chilly days I tell the family to put on an extra layer and dad's going to make an extra large batch of chili!

FWIW-We're seeing some possible NPI results in volleyball. Gustavus, who is ranked 25th in the country would not get one of the 21 at-large bids into the tournament if the season ended today despite having the toughest schedule in the country and a win over #7 UW-Oshkosh. They're 70th in NPI as the system favors win pct. too heavily over the strength of schedule and the strength of schedule calculation within NPI isn't great. We'll see how it affects football but in general the unfortunate lesson NPI seems to be showing to coaches is to schedule easier games.

Has anyone seen what the 2024 playoff bracket looks like? How many teams have first round byes?

I haven't seen anything, but in Logan Hansen's weekly feature in the D3football.com ATN Podcast, he keeps referring to the top-8 "protected" seeds.  That leads me to believe that there will be 4 quadrants (is that redundant?) of 10 teams, with the top 2 seeds in each quadrant getting a 1st round bye.  All sepculation on my part. ;)

Pre-championship manual
40 teams, 12 at-large bids, 8 first round games, so 24 teams have first round byes.
