Quote from: CaliRaider on October 13, 2024, 06:16:59 PMAll this complaining about limited carries for our RB is amazing.  If we're planning to make a run in the playoffs you're potentially looking at 14 games and your RB needs to be fresh and healthy.  So what if TE only had 7 carries or whatever it was vs Wilmington.  Focus on the long season and the big prize.

Mount practices a lot of stuff vs lesser opponents.  The year they played the short spring season the barely ran at all.  But they practiced a lot of pass blocking for a young OL.

I appreciate the idea and that happened in the past.  But Mount hasn't won the "big prize" in a while.  Preparing for the 14-15th games didn't really serve the Raiders very well last year.  There's a line between holding back for the playoffs and shutting it down completely.  The son-in-law has seemed to struggle with that in his head coaching tenure

I can appreciate both sides of this discussion.  In years past when Mount Union was dominating lesser opponents, then load balancing and staying vanilla was advantageous.  When you don't score your second touchdown until 0:48 left in the third quarter vs. Otterbein, then maybe you should give your horses the ball and do work.

I did comment on giving Tyler Echeverry the ball more vs. Wilmington.  Eight carries and Two receptions in the first half for 143 yards and 3 TDs en route to a 56-12 halftime score met that request.  Eight carries for 46 yards total vs. Otterbein wasn't enough (IMO).

IMO, it's not the number of touches, its the play calls of the touches.  If it's going to be vanilla read option up the middle and bubble screens all day, the Mount offensive weapons could have 30+ touches and it won't be as successful as Mount should be.  It's been the case for 4 years now, hopefully the debacle at Otterbein was the catalyst for change.  There was a lot more variance to the offense vs Wilma, but it was still Wilma.

"Saving" plays and pulling the video of the game is ridiculous behavior for the 2024 Mount Union football program to be engaged in

D3 Poster

Noticed the Muskies have several Fla natives and a juco running back.  Was curious about how that looks across the OAC.  Not able to figure out the juco numbers, but approximate Fla numbers look like:

Mount 45 (their #s probably distort every state comparison!)
Heidi 30
Musky 29
BW 15
ONU 10
Cap 9
JCU & Etta 6
Ott 5
Wilm 3

Why is Wilmington not recruiting Florida? It seems like an easy way to start improving your overall athleticism.

Ever been to Ada, OH? Not much better! ::)

1, Ohio Northern offers nearly twice as many majors as Wilmington.
2, Nearly 1 in 4 ONU graduates major in engineering, which Wilmington doesn't offer.
3, Nearly 2 in 5 Wilmington graduates major in Agriculture Business or Business Administration. The next three most popular majors are Education, Sport Administration and Exercise Science. The point being, I don't think a lot of Florida guys are interested in Ag Biz. And the other four can be found at a vast majority of other schools that are closer to home.

I really don't think that it's lack of majors that keep kids from playing football at Wilmington.

In my non-professional opinion, Wilmington could really clean up in the southwest part of OH with the right coach/facilities etc .  Not a lot of D3 competition.

They've played football since 1920 and have an all-time winning percentage of .399. I don't believe that dog will hunt.

If Heidy can bounce back from winning 1 game in 4 or 5 years (4 total wins in 8 years I think) and playing at a high school stadium off campus, to being on the 2nd tier of the OAC and making the playoffs, anything is possible.  not likely, but possible

Some changes in the 2 deep this week:

Jackson Harris (So) is now NT1 with Cramer NT2.  Harris has been playing quite a bit so not a huge shake up.
Jazz Jackson (Sr) is MLB1.  Cruz still listed as MLB2.
Zack Liebler (Fr) is now listed as a starting CB.
Ricky Levak (Fr) is now S backing up Yanssens.
Darius Hill (So) is WR2 behind Turner.

I don't understand why TJ Deshields keeps being listed at QB2 when he hs no stats and other QBs are getting backup reps.

Raider tidbit from the Berg two deep...one of their starting WR is Cole Poorman.  Looked it up and he is Luke's brother.  As is, I'm assuming, the other Poorman on the Berg roster who is a backup QB also from University HS in Orlando.  Those poor parents have seen more of Ohio than I'm sure they ever cared to.

I think they are twins.
