Quote from: TUAngola on September 25, 2024, 07:55:18 PMTrine University's 2024-25 MBB Roster is up:

https://trinethunder.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

No surprises as Trine's MBB Twitter account has been announcing the roster over the past month or so.  Those not returning to the team that had eligibility remaining are Grant Pahl, Ryan Preston and Hayden Jones.  The newcomers are 3 Grad Students: Cam Smith, Max Greenamoyer, Trevor Montiel, and Freshman Cade Brenner. Logan Gard also returns to the roster after being out with season ending surgery.  It will be a very experienced team, with 5 Grad Students, 3 Seniors, 4 Juniors, 1 Sophomore and 1 Freshman.  I know Coach likes to keeep the roster around 15 players, so as the season progresses there could be a roster spot or two available, more than likely to Colin Shriver and Drew Cwik.  Of note there are zero JV guys from last season's undefeated team that were elevated to the Varsity, although Evan Lumbrezer split his time between the 2 teams.  We should have a solid team with aspirations of another NCAA tournament run.

Two additions to Trine's MBB pre-season roster:  Colin Shriver, 6'5 Jr, he was mostly on the JV last season but dressed on occasion with the Varsity.  Also added is Izaak Wright, 6'4 Fr, he'll probably split time with JV and Varsity.

I'm no longer pretty sure.

Hope has a roster which is just a list of names.  There is also a JV roster
https://athletics.hope.edu/sports/mens-basketball/roster

I might expect an edit of this roster next week, at least numbers added.

A few new names missed from last springs recruiting list.
Carter Bishop, Holt
Alex Pirrotta, Franklin
Dakarai Rogers II, Sterling Heights
Johnny Ryg, Arlington Heights, Il
Jacob VanHekken, Holland

I saw Carter Bishop a couple times in high school, but not last year because Holt just never crossed my path.  The year before Holt had a nice surprise 3 game run in districts winning games by 3, 2 and 2 that included 2 big upsets.  Holt won one of those games making 17 3's, a ton of ft's and exactly one, 2 point basket.  Carter had 8 of those 3's.

A little article about Bishop from 2023 and that crazy game with Mason.  A highlite video of the game pops in the corner.

Most pleasant "surprise" on the Hope roster...  Eli Schooveld is back for his senior season (after sitting out all of last season due to injury)!!

And while it is a long list (22), 4 of those are also listed on the 10 man JV roster.

Calvin will play Ferris St. tonight in an exhibition game in Big Rapids at 7pm. Calvin has not listed it on their schedule, but Ferris St does. Unfortunately no live video and no stats, but there will apparently be an audio feed.

Calvin was up by 4 at half, and the game was tied going into the final 10 minutes, but Ferris State was able to pull away to win 83-69. I don't think stats are available but Egekeze, Ressler, Riemersma, and Varnado were in double figures for the Knights.

PRe-season Top 25 is out:  https://d3hoops.com/top25/men/2024-25/preseason

Trine at #1, Calvin #9 (with 1 first place vote) and Hope #21.

Trine seems right - given what they have coming back plus their transfers.

Calvin feels high to me given Overway being out this year - and I'm really shocked at a #1 vote.

Hope may be about right, actually feels a bit too high for me.  Best news is we don't have too long to wait until the teams get to show us how good they are

Greek Tragedy

The guy must have forgotten Overway is out. That seems ridiculous that Calvin got a first place vote. Pretty hard to argue against Trine being #1.

A few notes on Albion's roster:

I had pieced together answers to many of the potential questions.  Marco and AJ announced their return, I had good reason to believe Phil Ragan would be back, and I had seen that Bryce Esman was back at Wayne State.  I'm glad to see so many returners as well as some good additions!

I'd say the biggest difference from what I had figured is that Deonte Roberts is no longer playing.  I think we'll be in good shape, though, with Phil back, BJ Hunter hopefully un-injured, Dwayne Ray, and more.  Dwayne quickly became a favorite after moving up from JV mid-season to becoming a starter by the end of the season.
